I've posted a couple of reviews before, on Gadget Guyz, because Computer Geeks operates from the same kiosk. This is my first just for Computer Geeks. Kevin, the #1 Geek, has a Facebook page and so I was able to contact him on the weekend when I knocked my laptop off the chair arm and trashed the LCD. He actually responded within about 20 minutes! I dropped the laptop off at the kiosk on Monday, 2/13, and got it back today 2/21. The only delay was waiting for the part to arrive. Just for info, the banner in the photos says "$89 flat rate" and it's now $109 - but still a great price for great service!! Lots of people buy cheap netbooks now and toss them instead of repairing. I spent more on a GOOD laptop and it's just over a year old, so no way I wanted to buy another. For $203 out the door, my laptop is as good as new. I can't say enough good things about the customer service and honest repair!! Thank you, Kevin! PS - It's just a little tricky getting here, but if you spot the 7-11 that is a big help. These guys are THE BEST!! I dropped my Macbook and it wouldn't turn on. I thought It was toast, but I took it to Russell at Computer Geeks and its as good as new! The man is a GENIUS! I had another laptop (toshiba) and I asked them to install virus protection for me. They de-fragged and cleaned it up for me and the installed virus protection software, and the thing is like Fort Knox now! Its faster than it was and VIRUS FREEEEE! Yipee! I was referred by a friend who swears by him. A few years ago my laptop stop working and I tried to update it and its was stuck in that mode for a day I had everything on it and needed help asap I called Kevin and since he lived near me I dropped it off and in a few hour it was ready to go. Be very cautious if you're considering doing business with this company. And get things in writing. I was looking for a cheap wired usb keyboard so I could access the bios on my computer. I saw their ad on c/l which stated they had used keyboards ranging in price from $3 to $9. I called and they confirmed they had a used usb keyboard for $5. I went down the next day and the salesperson informed me the keyboard was actually $10. How does an item suddenly double in price. Not to mention they wanted more for it than they even stated in their c/l ad for the highest priced used keyboard! Granted it's only a $5 difference, but to ask double the price for an item is ridiculous. So before you do any business with this company make sure to get everything in writing. read more

This is my experience with Computer Geeks Hawaii on 12/10/2013: For all the single, not computer savvy ladies out there trying to support local business. My laptop stopped working so I called the Gadget Guys (I like to support local business). I worked with Kevin at 1347 Colburn St. So I dropped my laptop off one afternoon. There was a white board sign that had written on it, "$105 flat rate". They called me a couple days later and said my motherboard was broken and would cost ~$250 to fix; in that same conversation I said I would like to recycle my old laptop with $5 discounted from my total (their protocol). I opted to buy a new laptop and still needed my filed transfered over to the new computer. Two days later I called Kevin and he said he wasn't at the shop but I could meet him at the off site location he was working at; I agreed. The following day Kevin called me and said, "Did you want a rush order?" which I discussed). I came in that afternoon or the next. My old laptop was in a bag waiting for me. When I tried to pay with a credit card, they said they preferred cash and there was a (~)2.5% charge to use a credit card. We had a pleasant conversation about the nearest ATM (which wasn't my bank so I would've been charged). Rush hour was approaching, so I just paid it, but I mentioned, "I wish I would've known that because I could've brought cash. Maybe you could add that fee to your white did not and I also told Kevin I had changed my mind about recycling my old laptop, I wanted it back, Kevin acknowledged this. Kevin told me my laptop was ready to be picked up (I'm assuming they thought it was a rush order but that was never board". (Kevin kinda brushed this off, but I was annoyed because I don't like to waste money on silly fees). Kevin said he'd "meet me in the middle at $102". When I got home and checked my receipt (they use a variation of the "square") I was charged $112 for a data transfer. I'm not sure where the $10 in taxes came from. And they gave me my old laptop back, so there was no 'recycling discount'. When I opened my old laptop 2 days later, the screen was missing. So I called Kevin and left a message that I was disappointed about the above. Kevin called me back, initially he told me the "meeting in-between" was regarding the "emergency rush" for getting my laptop done early, but the second voice mail he left says I wasn't charged a rush. He also left me a voice mail saying "Regarding the other laptop, you had told us to just recycle the computer, that's what we had discussed previously. If you wanted us to put the old laptop back together that would take 2-3 days. I don't know why you're upset". I want to think there was a communication breakdown, but we did discuss that I wanted my old laptop back the day before, and then it was waiting for me when I got to the shop. Why would they think I wanted only the shell of my laptop; would other prudent IT/computer literate employees question this? My friend knew what he was looking at when he looked at my laptop yesterday, and he said it's totally gutted and that the parts have pretty significant value (upwards of $200). So I feel taken advantage of and ripped off. And if they stole all my old computer's parts, why didn't they at least offer me the $5 off? Ultimately, I would discourage business with this company, which I feel to be dishonest. Also, so that future customers do not have the same complaint, I would recommend the company become better organized. read more

-Over a year ago I bought a laptop from Kevin Sia at Computer Geeks Hawaii, now located in Colburn st. He sometimes advertises under phone number 542-4272. Sometimes different phone number, or different name. Kevin said he had just "cleaned" the hard drive from last owners data. I paid around $300. -The police contacted me days later and informed me the laptop was just stolen from a local high school. They took the laptop and left a receipt as proof. There are police records as well. -I called Kevin Sia at Computer geeks and he denied the laptop was stolen or knowing anything about that. After a while he admitted he had already been contacted by the police, so he lied and knew all about it. He refused to give the money back or replace the laptop, saying he was just a private seller and tough luck. Even though he sold it through his store. He actually had the nerve to tell me he would sue me if I went public with this info. -I spoke with an attorney and was told since there are police records and proof we can go ahead and warn the public about him. We also have the name of the police detective that took on this case. -All of you thinking about buying laptops or anything else from this guys, you have been warned. Even if the police does not find you or your laptop, it may still be stolen. Kevin knows his stock is stolen stuff, and pass it along to people like you after deleting original owners data. I went in for a scratched screen last year, the laptop itself was running fine and the desktop was still showing up on part of the screen that was not damaged. paid for a new screen which they told me would only take a few days to receive and a few more days to repair. The whole process took more than 2-3 weeks then they tell me the laptop's broken and needs a new mother board even though computer still turned on but with white screen and no weird noises such as fan failure. They asked if I wanted to replace the motherboard and would have to order the part...god knows how much longer that would take with ordering and repair.... I was already skeptical at that point, I told them never mind but I wanted my laptop back. When I went to pick it up, they had put the old damaged screen back on the laptop and the sides were gaped open on both sides...they didn't seal it back on, and had put the new screen back in the plastic bag. After a few hundred dollars and a broken laptop, I was annoyed. I wasn't convinced the computer motherboard was fried, etc. I took it to another repair shop that had great reviews and the guy told me there was nothing wrong with the motherboard and it was definitely just the screen. I gave the new guy the new screen I purchased from Computer Geeks and the guy at the new repair shop told me he tried it and it was a lemon! Had to buy another screen but it was worth it cuz the new repair shop was done on the same day within one hour and charged me only $180 total for diagnostic, labor, and new screen. The laptop worked just fine after that but I just got reminded of the shoddy repair job and how much money I lost and got pissed off everytime I looked at my laptop so I sold it then I wouldn't have to look at it anymore. It's sad, I first went to this place years ago and the guys back then did a good job and they weren't ripping me off and giving me nothing for it, but all the old staff is long gone. On 2/6/2013 I talked with Mr. Kevin Sia of Computer Geeks Hawaii about repairing my computer. He explained that all labor and parts must be paid for in cash up front. The labor charge is $99 cash. Being suspicious of businesses that operate this way, I marked and photographed the major components of the computer before I took it to their 1695 Kapiolani Blvd. location. After calling several times I was informed that the computer had a faulty motherboard which would require a $150 cash deposit before it would be ordered. One month later on 03/6/2013 I was informed that the computer was ready to be picked up. The invoice that was attached to the case states that the labor included the replacement of the motherboard and I was invoiced for the new motherboard. The computer has the same problems as when it was sent off for repair and the motherboard has the same markings I put on it before it was "repaired". Over 2 years of dust covers the components and connectors on the motherboard. On 3/11/2013 I requested a cash refund but have yet to receive a response over 2 weeks later. From my experience I recommend you do not do business with this group unless you are prepared to be cheated. read more

these guys suck. horrible service. walk in there looks like a dump pretty much reflects on how they fix there computers. had to bring back my computer 7 times 5 of them for the same reason. reason i kept coming back is because i bought the computer from them so figured theyd be the best bet. wrong. this last time i erased a program so it stopped me from connecting to the internet, brought it in for Kevin to take a look thats the only problem i had. I get a call from Kevin saying "my computer wont turn on" hmmm. anyways he told me i have fried motherboard now quotes me 230 dollars for the motherboard. ok whatever get it fixed right? i go to pick it up now its 330 dollars for the repair as im leaving i noticed a piece missing in the back. waited 3 weeks for this repair ends up they forgot to put in my video card in... how do you miss something like that? idiots. the guy working there stoned off his ass smelling like herb everytime i went there. anyway asked them about it he looked at me like he didnt know what was going on. ends up finding it under a whole bunch of misc. items buried practically. now my computer still isnt working how it supposed to. im planning on reporting them to the BBB just a horrible business. read more
