First, they no longer accept alcohol containers because they do not specifically state CA crv. [Stores do not want them either! So only option is to give to local sanitation company, forfeiting paid crv.] Now, they do not want the plastic tops to beverage containers. Of course, that is where the weight lies. Front office reaffirmed that if they come with, they'd accept, but could simply be tossed. What!?! I thought the purpose of recycling was to provide relief to landfills (and environment) as well as recirculate the material. So, what did they do with the tops that they confiscated from customers? On numerous occasions, truck drivers and crew have not gotten or have ignored vital information regarding details of waste and recycling collections at our home in Lafayette, CA. Most discouraging of all, Republic Services policy includes NO credit for time periods already paid up (and you always pay in advance for their services - not the usual for any service company). Consequently, when you want to end service because you are moving out, and for any other reason, and you've already paid for a the 3-month period in question, you receive no credit for the time you will not need service. This could mean up to 3 months of wasted expense, if you were to need to end service near the beginning of the 3-month billing period that was already paid for.

We have found this group to be adversarial, confrontational, not solution or resolution oriented....and basically everything you would NOT want to experience from a business or in the case of curbside pickup utility. They have acted in a dismissive, punitive and discriminatory manner with regards to our service! Despite repeated assurances from their staff that our concerns would be addressed they failed to follow through on every case. Our concerns with the utility side of their business will be addressed with the city/county. Please consider this to be our strongest recommendation to find another business to fulfill your needs. More and more people are becoming conscious to REDUCE their consumption, REUSE (or donate) anything possible, REPAIR anything possible, and ultimately RECYCLE what remains. In addition, anything that is toxic like batteries, unusable paint, yard chemicals, solvents, oils, aerosol cans, fluorescent light bulbs, anything that does not decompose into dirt, must be disposed of safely and most likely can be recycled in some form. Sonoma County Landfill has a household toxic disposal/recycling center which I use whenever I need to. I never, ever put anything toxic in my trash or recycle bins at home. This has been my reason for coming to the Sonoma County Landfill. Not to put anything at all into the landfill, but to make sure that anything from my household that is toxic be recycled. There is usually a line of trucks and cars up to the toxic recycling station, but it moves quite fast. You are told to stay in your vehicle, handed a clip board with a simple form to fill out stating you are a Sonoma County resident, and when you reach the drop-off station the attendant takes your toxics out of your car trunk or pickup bed. Pretty Simple! The Residential: Household Toxic Disposal & Recycling station is only open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm. There is another way to recycle other more common things at Sonoma County Landfill. Just around the corner from the Household Toxics station are a series of huge dumpsters. One each for plastics, metals, glass, paper, cardboard, etc. For me, I am a little uncomfortable putting some items in my home recycle bin like EMPTY yard insecticide plastic bottles, or Roundup plastic bottles, empty paint cans, plastics without the recycle number, things like that . . . even though it is probably okay to do so. I just drive up to the giant recycle dumpsters and put those things in their respective dumpster. Since construction crews unload industrial amounts of these materials into these dumpsters, it makes me feel like my little recyclable items will be included in the big melt downs and not sorted out; I could be wrong. Note: All these services are Free! The one thing that Sonoma County Landfill does Not recycle is Styrofoam (polystyrene). So, that means everyone in Sonoma County throws this toxic stuff into the land fill. Not Good! What I do is save all my Styrofoam in my garage until I have a car full and then drive down to Hayward (1 1/2 hours away) to a company that truly recycles Styrofoam. I am dedicated to doing my part to be environmentally responsible. I produce extremely little garbage in my life. I have the smallest garbage can (20 gallon) of the four sizes available from our disposal company. It takes me weeks to fill it up. Everything else I consume goes into either the blue recycle bin or the green bin for yard/food composting. I drive a low emissions vehicle and I am a vegan (you wouldn't believe how much being vegan helps the environment). Making my carbon footprint as low as humanly possible is my goal . . . kind of like the Native Americans did with their harmony with Nature. I wish . . . I was that skillful!
