Computerland has very real problems concerning privacy and safety. The repair technician I left my laptop with was extremely unprofessional, made me feel unsafe, and possibly kept files duplicated from my laptop. He texted me all week while my computer was in the shop, asking me where I hung out, if I went to the bar, and what I was doing over the weekend. At one point he left a voicemail saying he noticed my home address was in Oakland and asked if he could deliver my laptop to my house after he got off work. He also backed-up my files for free when I has said I did not need a backup, and then texted me about how much he loved the "artistic" photos he found, by which he meant nude photos of me. I made a complaint with Apple, since they have to comply with Apples strict privacy policies in order to be Apple-certified. The Apple employee I made the complaint with was horrified when she saw the texts on my phone. Getting my computer back and making a complaint about the technicians behavior was a nightmare. I had to come back to the store twice. I was told I would need to talk to the manager, but the manager was even more defensive than the employees. He said I had misunderstood the texts, that no one cared what type of pictures I had on my laptop, and that my information was safe. I made him read the texts but he kept saying his employee "wasn't from here", I guess to suggest that he didn't mean any of the texts in the way I was reading them. After 10 minutes of anyone refusing to apologize, I left angry. The manager chased me down the street, asked me to come back inside, and told me he would make the technician pay for my refund. When I got back in the shop he said I would need to come back on a different day to be refunded, once they had their legal team draw up paperwork for me to sign. I refused, and asked why they needed legal paperwork when they would not apologize or admit wrongdoing. Finally, he gave me a refund, apologized for MY "misunderstanding", and asked me to handwrite and sign a note saying I would not take any legal action against Computerland. I would love to find an alternative to waiting for the apple store, but Computerland has no respect for my privacy or safety. read more

Was referred by a friend to this place when my Lenovo T61 got bogged down by a stubborn error message. She told me they helped her with her computer problems fast, fair and efficiently. She told me though to look for the nice guy. Well, either I lucked out or they are all nice guys cuz I just got who I got...a nice guy...and then another nice guy. I was promised ahead of time what it would likely cost, $120 .(for me this was steep only in that I had only paid $130 including shipping for my laptop, but Berkeley Computer store had given me a quote of $130. In the end, they took pity on me and no, I didn't have to gravel and charged me a $100. They fixed the problem and cleaned up the viruses my scanners didn't detect. I had a great conversation with Gus who works there and joked with him that I would not only tell folks to go see him (and his colleagues) but that if they did, they might just get all sorts of unexpected answers, ...such as ..the meaning of life, or marriage counseling...you name it! But if you're in a hurry, and want just the facts, they're great for this too...Customers came and left swiftly and these guys were quick and to the point and most definitely rose to the occasion. They are clear in their communication, fair, professional, efficient and overall pleasant. So if you're looking for computer help...or even to buy a used computer, go check these guys out. I received service under Apple warranty here, so I have no idea about pricing. For customer service and expertise, however, you can't beat this place! They are right near campus and more accessible than any Genius Bar -- you don't need to make an appointment days ahead of time to get them to help you. I had an issue that I wasn't sure an issue with my screen would be covered by warranty, but they first took some photos so I could keep using my computer while they contacted and checked with Apple. When Apple gave them the go-ahead, they also very quickly received a replacement part (within 24 hours, I think). They were extremely communicative throughout this processes. Then, they were very flexible to let me drop off my computer and pick it back up with very very minimal downtime. I'm sure not all issues are as straightforward and easy to fix, so I don't want to give the wrong impressions about how fast service can be, but by their attitudes, I could tell that they are smart, efficient, and they are certified premium service providers though Apple for a good reason. Just for the fact that getting an issue resolved with Computerland's help was so awesome, I right away bought extended Applecare warranty so they can help me if anything happens to my Mac in the future. read more

It's not the shiniest computer repair shop, but they do a very good and honest job. I have a MacbookPro. Its hard-drive has died a couple of times in the past year and they've fixed it quickly and inexpensively (free last case since I have apple care). They're the only non-Apple store in the area who accept AppleCare. The guy has been very nice. If you call about your computer, or just stop in, he'll give you an update, warns you of expenses before they do things. Generally, the people who fix computers are petty and the people at Apple are downright pricks. Computerland does a damn good job and they're honest and nice about it. Turn around time for a hard drive replacement (including diagnosis), was 4 business days (went through the weekend). Previous time I brought it in for cleaning and a few parts to be replaced, they had it ready Thursday when I brought it in on Tuesday. read more

They are patient, diligent and absolutely professional in assessing whatever issues your machine is having. I thought my laptop was fried after apple charged me a ton and couldnt fix the issue. I needed out of warranty repair on a Toshiba Satellite A300. I broke the LCD and the replacements I got from eBay didn't work. (I've taken laptops apart before; it's a PITA.) I work close enough to Berkeley to give ComputerLand a shot, and they did great. They got the right part, got express shipment of it on my request (cost a bit more but oh well), and sent me on my way with a reasonable bill. Nermin and Eduardo are pleasant, helpful, and professional; keep a clean shop; and nicely replaced a screw I lost in my own repair attempt. In eBay terms: A++ would repair again. PS: In fact I *will* repair again... my MacBook's keyboard got eaten by a macaw, and I'll be sending it here. (The MacBook, that is, not the macaw.) read more

Most excellent service! I had a problem with the hinge on my old Acer laptop. I was worried that it may be beyond repair, as it was falling apart rapidly. The people at Compuerland took one look at it and said that it was a standard problem with laptops, and they would be able to fix it. Since they keep very busy, they were able to get working on my laptop only 3 days after I gave it in; but once they started, my laptop was fixed in 1.5 hours! The owner patiently explained the problem and the method of fixing it, which I appreciated very much. I also got a $10 discount as I carried a printout of their homepage along. I went to Computerland long time ago and they were able to help me before with my iMac. Now I had issue with my iPhone 6 and I visit them again. My iPhone screen was cracked and they promised me they will fix It within 24 hours using original Apple parts. They told me I have to disable find my phone and back up my data before I left It. I did and they call me next day and said it was done. When I came there, they told me they send It to Apple Depot and It was replaced with the brand new iPhone 6. I could not believe I got new iPhone now for little over $100. I'm so happy and I will definitely refer them to all of my friends. Thank you guys. read more

I called Toshiba technical support after my Laptop died on me, the "teck" from India made me try everything including making sure it is plugged into the wall, but no luck with that. Then he told me that I have to ship it to some warehouse in Texas and it takes 2 to 3 weeks. After I objected to that he finally told me to take it to ComputerLand in Berkeley, so I did. The guys there at CompuerLand were so nice and knowledgable, they diagnosed the problem, replaced the system board and got it back to me in full working condition in less than 3 days. I had a great experience at ComputerLand of Berkeley. My PC couldn't boot and I had no idea what went wrong. The staff helped me diagnose the issue for free, and they patiently explained that the real problem was a damaged motherboard--likely caused by unstable voltage from a custom PSU cable I had used before. They checked everything carefully, including the power supply and GPU, and clearly explained the cause without trying to sell me anything unnecessary. Very honest, professional, and helpful. My macbook pro was close to dying in the heat - 736% CPU usage by kernel_task even when idle, just to prevent meltdown. Computerland fixed it fast with thorough cleaning of fan etc, replacing thermal paste on CPU and GPU, and now it's working really well again. Even with apps running, kernel_task is down to a healthy 5% or so, and my audio apps are no longer glitching. Staff were very helpful, and I'm very happy. Never joined Yelp before but I created an account today because I'm grateful for their work - this is an excellent business that deserves support! read more

My dell laptop had charger-connection problems. I was hoping it would be something easy to fix but the computer is pretty old and I had no idea. The place I'd gone before for computer repairs was no longer doing repairs and recommended Computerland. Tri Dang took a look and quickly determined that the pin was out of alignment. My 2012 Macbook's original 500 Gb hard drive was failing -- it was taking 30 minutes just to start it and apps were barely functioning. Everyone said it was time to buy a new MacBook but I just don't support the disposable hardware marketplace. So, I decided to replace the HDD. It was so full I couldn't back it up. What can I say..Always loved love Apple and their products. Compared to other products the Apple products are always much better and easier to use. This store is clean should be as expected. The staff isn't as well trained as the other stores I have been to. That's the only thing I have an issue with at this store. Computerland of Berkeley is the best. My Macbook had a cracked screen, and once the screen came in (which took only a day or two) they were able to repair it in an hour. The screen looks brand new now. They also have great pricing in addition to their great service, the same repair would have cost way more at an Apple store. My Asus notebook went crazy one day a few weeks ago, and two days before a presentation (of dammit course!). Screen went blank. Found these guys here and ran over.
