I called Comstock Plumbing on Monday about water pressure issues that I isolated to my whole house iron removing water filter. I live in the Appalachian mountains and I'm on well water. They were able to send Jay out the next day, first thing in the morning to troubleshoot the issue. Jay and his coworker took the whole filter system apart piece by piece checking for a blockage. They even cleaned all the goop off of a pipe that they removed from one of the two tanks. Jay explained everything he was doing and answered all of my questions. He showed me what he found that was causing the pressure issues, (two tiny pebbles in the backflow preventer) and put everything back together. I checked the water pressure and, bingo! it was fixed. The cost was very reasonable. The service fee and an hour or so of labor, (they charge in 15 minute increments). They also have a coupon for $25 off a service call on their website. I called another outfit that had won the 2013 Angie's List best blah blah blah, who tried to tell me over the phone that the whole system needed to be replaced. I was really irritated that he was trying to junk my whole system before the tech even came out, so I called Comstock instead. And I'm glad that I did. Comstock had been in business for 40+ years, which is definitely a good sign. I will definitely be calling on Comstock for any future problems with my water filter system. read more

This is a great company. I was able to contact their answering service over a weekend and arrange for a Monday appointment. On Monday morning the Comstock Plumbing office contacted me to arrange for an appointment that day and gave me an approximate time for arrival. When the team was 15 minutes out they contacted me, as promised. Chip & Joe arrived with all the tools they needed and a correct replacement disposal unit. They quickly diagnosed my problem and 15 minutes later all leaks were fixed and a new disposal was operational. These guys really know their stuff, and the price was fair. Finding a company that answers their phone, arrives on time, quickly finds the problem, quickly installed a new unit and charged a fair price is awesome. Multiple scheduling SANFU's and Lack of communication (and experience). Last week (Monday) we had a kitchen sink blockage. Our regular Plumber wasn't available until later in the week so after trying to use plunger/chemicals called Comstock to make appointment for the following day (Tuesday). They arrived next day and started job by attempting to snake the drain. After about a half hour, left house presumably for another job. I anticipated they would return same day but they did not. I called 0800 next morning to see when they would be returning; the dispatcher said "they would try and make it out but had other jobs" and said they would need a whole day because the failed attempt to snake line indicated that plumbing was incorrectly installed (T-Fittings) and that they would have to redo kitchen plumbing ($$$$), This was concerning because we have a finished basement in which the ceiling would have to be accessed (cut) to do this. Anticipating their arrival, I leaned forward, cutting a small access to help the process and adding an access panel to cover opening. Followed up again next day, said busy and would block out all day Monday (fair enough). Friday, they called and said were in my development and could stop by which was promising until I started explaining to the tech about what transpired Tuesday. A few minutes later the dispatcher called and said the tech could not make it due to time constraints; she said they would be back out TUESDAY. I told her that I was told earlier in the week that Monday was already blocked out for us. The dispatcher said that "appointment" was not made by her and that the Techs are not supposed to do that [and that they do that all the time]. I called our Plumber back, and scheduled Tuesday. They arrived on-time and had it fixed in an hour. Beforehand, I explained I was told by Comstock about the incorrect "T" fittings and that our plumbing would have to be redone/corrected. Our Plumber said he would be able to snake it, it was a matter of technique and patience--He was correct. Lesson learned. I'll stay with my trusted Plumber! read more

Chip was very easy to work with and very professional. My plumbing issue in my basement was fixed quickly and for a very fair price. I would definitely recommend Comstock plumbing and will be using them again in the future. read more

I am updating my review to reflect the action taken after posting the original review. I was able to speak with Chip whose family owns the business. He apologized for the behavior of the team member I spoke to over the phone. He picked the water heater up the next day. The issues have been resolved. As I said in my original review, the professionals that have come to our home are great. It was a single team member from the office that was the problem. That team member no longer at the company. I sincerely appreciate their efforts to make things right. We will give this business another try in the future. read more

I've used Comstock Plumbing for years; however, I will not use them going forward and CANNOT recommend them. I ordered and they installed a hybrid water heater at my house in August 2020. And the plumbing connections the installed added greatly increased the footprint over the other water heater they previously installed in 2010. On December 24, 2020, I had a service appointment with Chip (same Comstock plumber who did the August 2020 water heater installation) to repair a sump pump. He said he needed to order a replacement part and that the repair likely wouldn't happen until after the new year. I was fine with that, holidays and all. It is now mid March 2021 and they are still telling me they have to find the replacement part. With a mere 10 minutes of my effort, I found the manufacturer, called them, got the contemporary part number, and ordered a replacement pump off Amazon. I will find someone with plumbing skills who is responsive to install it. This will not, NOT, be someone affiliated with Comstock Plumbing. read more

Comstock advertises 24 hour service. This should change to 24 hour service "if we feel like it". I called them for a well pump problem on a Sunday afternoon as we had no water. I got the answering service and I am sure they notified Comstock. I did not even receive a phone call until the next morning. I told the clueless woman from Comstock that I called the day before for 24 hour emergency service and she completely sidestepped my comment with "please call us if you have any other issues". Right! So just know if you need emergency plumbing service you should think twice or understand that Comstock 24 hour emergency service means if they feel like it. I mean they could have at least called me even if they couldn't make a service call. Lazy and unprofessional. I suppose they make a living in spite of themselves. read more

I called on a Friday 4/24 to get an estimate done to replace a leaking water pressure pump, install a thermal expansion tank on a hot water heater Comstock had installed earlier and to fix a leaking sewer line. The earliest a visit could be done was the following Wednesday 4/29 between 8am and 10am. Comstock showed up after 10:30 am due to an emergency. Information was exchanged. I requested a same day cost estimate for a new booster pump. I was given a lukewarm promise I would get an estimate that following Friday 5/1 for the entire job. I received no cost estimate for just the pump on 4/29 nor a cost estimate that Friday 5/1. Monday came and went and I still had no estimate much less a cost for a new pump. I didn't receive even a phone call explaining the reason for the missing estimate. I called the company office Tuesday morning, 5/5 requesting Chip give me a call back to bring me up to date on the missing quote. Its 5:00 pm and no phone call. To avoid any delays related to material shortages I called the recommended supplier for the pump needed and got a price quote. The cost was way too high for the quality of pump being offered. Hence I had to order the pump needed for the job via UPS. I purchased the needed thermal expansion tank and the lumber necessary to support the water pump above the basement floor. I've been ready for the job to be done since last Saturday. The only thing missing is a professional plumber. Its going on eleven days now dealing with a leaking pressure pump. Like the water running out of my leaking pump, so has my patience. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable. No business is that busy to not make a phone call! Especially when you have ample office personnel. Delegate! The time taken to write a rebuttal/excuses to this review should have been used earlier making a phone call to keep this review from ever happening! Where did Comstock's appreciation go for my previous business and customer loyalty I gave Comstock, a local business mind you, with more of my business instead of another plumber? It is true when they say never make a customer stand in line to spend their money, otherwise they will take their money to someone else who does appreciate it. Really torn to have to give only two stars. The guys that came out were great. What I'm unhappy about is that we had to call a plumber because we had water in our basement. We thought we had a leak. Once the guys got here, they determined it to be a stoppage and had to go all the way back to Ranson to get a piece of equipment. Once the equipment was onsite, they fixed the problem in short order. I'm most unhappy because I got charged for their time to drive back to their shop and the return trip here. I called the office and was given a credit for the service charge only. I do not think the customer should be penalized for not knowing exactly what the problem is. Were that the case, I wouldn't need a plumber. Will not use Comstock's services again, which is too bad because the actual plumbers were great. read more

They fixed some bad leaks at our place and were in and out very quickly and the work was done perfectly. Problem fixed. There was a delay getting them here but this was due to vehicular issues outside their control so not counting off for this. read more

Comstock was assigned to repair a cracked pipe in my home though my home warranty company. They were very fast from receiving the call to to getting a tech to my house and having the job complete. The Tech was very informative via telephone before the job keeping me informed on when he would be arriving. I would recommend this company to anyone and I hope to use them again in the future. read more

UPDATE: August 2 - After further phone calls with the owner, he was willing to work with us and even issued us a FULL refund even though we had only asked for a refund for the unauthorized repairs. UPDATE: When we spoke to the owner on Friday, July 8, through his rudeness, he said he was going to refund out money. However, when we called back on July 11, after several days of receiving no credit to our account, he said he decided he was NOT going to refund our money because he was MAD at us about the reviews we had left. On July 5, we had a pipe burst and subsequently flood our basement. We contacted Comstock Plumbing because we had used them in the past. They came out the next day and gave us an estimate to fix the pipe ($285) and to fix all our toilets ($120). He fixed the pipe that day but got called away by dispatch so had to return the next day (July 7) to fix the toilets. The work on the pipe was done quickly and well and they were there when they said we'd be. When he came back to fix the toilet, he discovered he would need to cut a hole in our wall to replace the wall valve but asked my husband for permission to perform the work first since it would require the hole. My husband okayed it and prepared to pay the $124 invoice he had written up. His assistant then took him back upstairs and apparently while up there, they realized that just a flapper replacement (which he was going to do for us as a courtesy since it would only take 10 minutes) wasn't enough but they would also have to replace the flush valve. At no point did they tell us of the new repairs required or inform us of any change in price. When they came back down, he added $110 to the invoice claiming he actually had to replace a flush valve. W were upset because we can replace a flush valve ourselves for about $15 but he had done it without authorization for $110. But my husband payed it so the plumber would leave. He later called to complain and requested our money back because the plumber had not received authorization to perform that additional work. The lady we spoke to said she would have the owner call us the next day. When he called, he was insulting, rude, constantly interrupting and demeaning. As we explained the situation, he first tried to claim that we shouldn't be upset about the price because we weren't charged a service charge, which we refuted because we had been charged a service charge the first day for the pipe repair. He implied we should have also been charged a service charge for the second day, even though the only reason the plumber had to come back the second day was because he was called away by dispatch the first day so could not finish the work. When we explained we never would have authorized a flush valve repair for $110 when we could do it ourselves for $15, he laughed and insulted us. We then when on to explain how, upon examination, the flush valves in our toilets were the same ones that were there when the plumber arrived, so we don't think he actually DID the repair he charged us for, he got belligerent. When we further pointed out that two of the three toilets he claimed to repair were still having problems he said "well you obviously don't like us so call someone else to fix it" and hung up. read more

We've got American Home Shield and Comstock is the company that does the plumbing service for us under that contract. I've placed several service calls over that last couple of years. I must say, the experience I've had with them has been exemplary. Our old water heater got a leak and they did the replacement for us. We had issues with our washer water value sticking open (twice), because of excess sediment our current filter doesn't catch, and they did the replacements for those too. A couple of weeks ago I finally called them about ingoing water pressure issues we're having. We found out our current whole house filter is probably causing the pressure problems, because the water pressure directly from the pressure tank is good. The filter has to be replaced quite frequently and was clogged again. They did the replacement for me and checked and cleaned out several faucets. They even took the kitchen sprayer unit completely apart, finding it a bit clogged with dirt, and thoroughly cleaned it. (I didn't even know the unit could be taken apart like that! Learned something new!) They also took a water sample to test and that finally convinced us that we need to get a water softener and a bigger, better iron filter. Those should help control several of our ongoing issues. I told them I know this service will be separate from our American Home Shield contract. But I have had enough experience with them to this point that I trust them to handle this service for us too. Every tech I've dealt with and the office staff I've talked to have been cordial and professional. They're willing to listen and answer questions. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. read more

Comstock ordered the new heater, and installed it a few days later and I didn't have to deal with any of the stress. Had a warranty repair done and the plumber that did the repair work did not apply glue to the PVC pipe before putting the wall cover over it, cause flooding in my finished basement. They scheduled an appt for the next day, I was given a window, and Jay promptly called when promised. He and his coworker solved the problem in half an hour and Jay answered all our questions. I bought my first home in may, the Town House is 10 years old. I had 3 simple requests, they did fix 2 of the 3 requests. The hot water heater has not had the elements changed in 5 years. I have asked for them to contact me before they left my house. That didn't happen, they did not replace the elements like I requested, they turned up my thermostat to 135 degrees which is scolding to a child. What were they thinking? They did not call me to inform me they were turning it up to that I would have refused that. If they would have replaced the elements the thermostat would not have to be turned up past 120. I am a conservative of electricity and water, unless they will volunteer to pay for my electric bill. I contacted their office on 6/8/15, I was told that the plumber was going to contact me once they were out of their meeting. That didn't happen either, so I called back 3 more times asking to speak to the plumber, he was out on a call I was told by Brenda he would call me. That did not happen either. I am very dissatisfied with their lack of customer service and any type of resolution of my issue did not happen either. I am currently a customer of American Home Shield and I have called them and complained. They were removed from recommended list. I wouldn't send them out to any of my friends. In my own opinion they suck and the worst customer experience ever, customer service sucks and the service sucks. read more
