My son started Kung Fu at 9 YO and in 2 years he's gained discipline, focus, coordination, confidence, internal motivation, and great friends! Students progress at their own pace. Attendance days are flexible - with a monthly tuition, kids can attend any classes of their belt level (there are 5 every week). After a whole-class warm-up, kids break up into smaller groups and work on specific skills with the instructor and student assistants. The school holds optional tournaments and seminars, giving students an opportunity to set goals and train for specialized skills. Self-defense is emphasized and specific techniques are taught at each belt level, which build upon the previous ones. Anti-bullying measures, empathy, and conflict avoidance are also discussed. The instructors teach respect inside and outside of the school. I've been taking Kickboxing with Sihing Braydan and I absolutely LOVE it! Twice a week, a small group of adults work hard, push ourselves beyond what we ever thought we were capable of, and share lots of laughs too! It's a great way to end the day - exercising stress away, getting stronger, staying sharp, and feeling invigorated too. There are many fun events throughout the year, including the Lunar New Year celebration featuring our talented Lion Dance Team, who perform throughout the Bay Area. My son has had 2 birthday parties here, and they will tailor the event to your party theme, like Star Wars! I have also taken their Self-Defense course, which is open to the public and is extremely informative and empowering. I highly recommend it to all teens and adults. There are wonderful opportunities here from littles to seniors. Come try a class in Kung Fu, Kickboxing, Tai Chi, or Self-Defense, and gain mental & physical health, self-confidence, and a warm, supportive community.

We tried a couple others disciplines Taekwondo as well as judo. But what we found was he was not as drawn to those two arts. Then he explained it to me as though he felt it was always something that they weren't telling him but could be taught. Then we found Chinese martial arts and then my son articulated to me he like this more because it was more hands on you got to do more and you felt you were really learning something to help prepare you for life. My son was 6 at the time he is now 11 and we have been practicing 5 years. The transformation for him was unbelievable for me to watch and its still ongoing so it just gets better. He went from being shy and very unsure of himself to being very sure of himself very outgoing articulate and a unbelievable sense of inner awareness. Also with this because he is left handed a lot of the moves are from the right side so now he has become some what ambidextrous so it doesn't matter what side or what hand he's able to manipulate items and execute moves with either hand. His sense of balance has improved drastically I can't remember the last time he tripped and fell. When before he would trip and fall constantly throughout the day. As for me the transformation has been life altering when I started my weight was 267 I have been at 225 for the last 3 years consistently my waist size was 42 I am now down to 35 because the 36's keeps sliding off now. I will be 53 this year. My reflexes and flexibility are on par with many half my age. I must admit it does take me 36 minitues to warm up and the class is only 1 hour. But with the results i have been seeing a gym membership is a waste of time and money. But the biggest bonus of all are the classes. Coming into the door you do get belt level private lessons but the nightly classes are all advanced moves and concepts broken down for your skill set and age bracket and maturity. Shun Shi Fu Eric Mitchell is an excellent instructor he has an uncanny ability to instruct you from where you are currently (age, health, maturity, skill set, goals). It's a true family here come join us. If you commit to a minimum of 3 days a week in 30 days you clothes will not fit you the same. Looking forward to seeing you soon.

He enjoyed it so much, when he fractured his elbow at school, he still wanted to attend classes here. Off he went with his cast, moves had to be modified for him but the teachers took the time to make sure he didn't miss much. He's been attending a few months and still enjoys it as much as when he first started. My son has learned so much already! Unlike many other schools you are able to attend classes 5 days a week, with a recommended minimum of two, I find this important because with my work schedule, it gives me some flexibility on when I can take him.

Means "way of the white tiger" in cantonese, but it's very much a northern system. It's not from China so if you're a purist, this is not for you. However... I will state the following: 1) They are more family oriented. Meaning, everyone seems to love going there and the staff is always courteous and very friendly. 2) Overwhelming number of female instructors. This is nice because you don't get the Cobra Kai feeling like some schools. 3) They do not require you to compete which personally is always a plus. Some schools exist only for trophies. I was able to sign up my son and myself into this school and we have been having a blast. The system is very belt oriented and they have classes 6 days a week where you can go to the group classes that work for your schedule. Into my 4th group class, I was out of breath (due to the workout and mask wearing) and several instructors asked how I was doing and were genuinely concerned with my well being. That's something that you want for your kids. I'm not above the fact that this is a system and they are running a commercial business. But there's definitely a comraderie that is next to none. Pricing if you pay for a year in advance roughly comes out to less than $200 a month. That's less than $50 a week which actually is very affordable considering the schedule aspect (You could go 6 days a week if you wanted at that price). In general, looking forward to something that I'm doing for my health, but also a bonding experience with my son. Very much encourage anyone looking for similar. Also, they have camps and seminars (at extra cost). Master Newman and the other brown or black belt instructors will take care of you! (There are sister schools in Alamo and Lafayette too).
