The Larkey Swim Center is a community pool in Walnut Creek that's great for kids and adult beginner swimmers. We came here a few times on a Saturday near the end of summer. It's adjacent to Larkey Park, so if the shared parking lots get full, you'll find plenty of free street parking. The pool itself is divided into several section - beginners (3.5 to 4.5 feet max depth), diving, and for lap swimming. They have lifeguards everywhere and they do a fine job of maintaining order. The water temperature was perfect. Our 5yo son seems to have a natural inkling for water but he enjoyed the pool far more than the splash pad, which is also popular with young kids. I tried carrying him up on the water slide but he refused. Note: for taller folks, they have a pretty intense water spray on top of the slide that can blind you. Imagine max shower pressure right on your face, LOL! Other amenities are large locker and changing rooms with clean showers, small picnic areas for sun tanning or relaxing, and plenty of benches and tables to store your bags or snacks. They also have a vending machine for cold drinks. Definitely plan on returning when the pool opens up again (9/27/25 was the last day for the summer). A definite bargain at just over $20 for a family of three. read more

Have tried to visit twice, both times website says open, and the pool is not. Have disappointed my kids twice now, will not be back!

This review is for the splash pad. I took my 4-year-old here and she loved it. They have a slide with water and several things that pour water on kids. I wish there was more shade for people that are not using the splashpad but other than that this is a great place to bring kids. read more

Went today for the first time, way to much chlorine in the pool. After 10 mins of swimming I had to get out and could barely see. After coming home ,flushing my eyes out, I am still experiencing itchiness and a really bad headache. Be careful....... read more

There is no separate baby/infant pool but the shallowest part of the general pool is 3 feet. Spray ground for kids to run around is separate. read more

We loved the splash pad here a few years back, and wanted to add on a swimming pool for my 4yo to practice his newly acquired underwater swimming skills. Unfortunately, the day we showed up, the splash pad was closed due to a broken part. We were still able to swim, but it is not a great pool for those with kids under 5. The steps are minimal, and the shallow (3ft) part is also minimal, therefore all of the families with small kids were crowded into a small space (making it hard to practice and enjoy swimming.) There was also some sort of summer camp, so the pool filled up very quickly. I think we'll try Clarke Memorial next time... but still love that splash pad! read more

The pool is a perfect temperature. It's sectioned off into a shallow area (approx 4ft) and 3 lanes for swimming, a deep end for recreational swim and another area for those jumping off the diving board. Lots of life guards on duty. There is a grassy area by the pool which has a VERY small section of shade. There are serval benches surrounding the pool and spray park but all are fully exposed to the sun. If your planning to come, I would suggest you plan to get wet because it's the only relief from the heat. The spray park has three small tables that you can sit that have umbrellas but they get occupied very quickly. So good luck getting one of those spots. There are lockers in both men's and women's restrooms to keep your valuables if needed. There is no place to buy drinks or food so bring your own. No glass bottles of course. The spray park is a lot of fun. My kids (3 and 5) thoroughly enjoyed it. Even my husband and I took a couple turn sliding down the water slide. This is a really nice, clean place. Definitely worth planning a day here It's $6 per adult and $4 per kid (6 and under) Enjoy! read more

It was a great day at the pool with a splash park. I thought it was odd how they cram people into a small area but it worked for us.

I have my grand baby she is 5 taking swim lessons for the first time can't say it enough about the kids who do this program is awesome they are really good with the little ones we have her going 2 weeks straight she needs it for sure but like I said it's a great staff try them they are great you won't be sorry read more

I'm so happy to be back swimming again since they've opened. Unfortunately it's almost impossible to snag a spot unless you log in the second it turns the time the slots open..on multiple occasions ive gotten on at 6:01 am (opens at 6) to get a slot the following week and they're all booked. Good news is when you do get it, you secure your own lane and I can imagine before Covid you'd share with lots of people. The pool is the perfect temperature for me, when I jump in I'm a bit cold but warm up after a few laps and don't get too hot. The staff has been very nice and they are making sure everyone's distanced or wearing a mask out of the pool. Unfortunately they also upped their prices to $7 for lap swim but I'm wondering if it's bc of covid and they can't have as many people at a time so lower amount coming in. Not sure but I'm desperate so I'll pay it. read more

The new Splash pad made me wince when I saw how many kids got hurt on obvious flaws in the design. I don't know who thought this one up, but I doubt they have children. My advice it proceed with caution and WATCH YOUR KIDS. My kids had A LOT of fun but I witnessed some painful looking accidents... The pool area is nice. We went on a weekday so expect day camps. My seven year old enjoyed the diving board but I was a bit surprised (concerned) that he wasn't asked to do the typical swim test prior to being allowed to jump in the 12ft depths...Like I mentioned, WATCH YOUR KIDS here. No one drowned while I was there so maybe I'm not giving them enough credit. I'm just too picky probably Although my review doesn't paint the best picture, I will say that we had an enjoyable time, will come again, and I will definitely WATCH MY KIDS closely when we return. Recently came here and loved it. Staff was nice. Not to busy. Lots of seating and clean. The big pool stairs are little weird. Cause people stand on them so it was hard to get down into the water but other than that I would highly recommend this place. I think a family of five cost us around 25$ read more

DO NOT go here on a weekday - there were 3 different camps here and it was super crowded. They have soda vending machines, but when I asked at the desk for change - she told me that they don't give change because they don't start out the day with enough change -wow - okay. There's only a couple of spots with shade,- we got there when they first opened and claimed a shady spot - we were soon crowded in by people with no sense of personal space. The final straw was when my daughter told me the pool water tasted like blood - we left and won't be back. read more

Mediocre swim lessons. Zero shade. Don't expect much when you sign up, or you'll be disappointed. The lifeguards are on a power trip, and, the 14 year old "manager" on duty is their ring leader. There MUST be better places than this! read more

I've been swimming here for this summer. Really like this pool. Swimming pool newly built so the water's clean, bathrooms are clean. Easy parking. The only thing I would say is the lap swimming schedule is so sporadic and not enough hours. read more

This pool is GREAT! The staff is really nice and knowledgeable. We came with just an hour and 10 min left to swim and it was worth EVERY PENNY! I live near Berkeley but will drive to concord for this place! The splash park is SOO cool too! 2 water slides, and a neat play structure, water spouting ALL over. There is a grassy area to sit/lay and/or have snacks. There is a covered bench near the splash park over looking the pool. It is a beautiful recentely refurbished lap pool. As a Walnut Creek Masters swimmer, we occasionally use this facility when Heather Farms is closed for maintenance. I was fortunate to swim there this week and very impressed by the facility and staff. The pool is a great temperature and water is crystal clear. The locker rooms are clean with nice showers and dressing area ( a little tight with our team) but fine. The neighborhood of Walnut Creek is blessed with such a great swim center. I come from Danville, with no facilities. Get wet and enjoy the experience! read more

This pool is mainly for children. There is no lap swimming there unless Clarke is closed. They keep the pool at about 80-81 degrees. The chemicals are great, they use chlorine. The pool itself is old, and the city has not been putting money into it, so the staff works with what they have. The bathrooms are older, nothing special. They do not give out change for the vending machines because they start out with a specific sum. It's not a bank or a big corporation... so you need smaller bills to pay, they wont take $50 bills or higher. The poor little pool does not have a lot of change. The vending machines are always breaking and the owner never fixes them, so the facility decided not to use them anymore. Go to Larkey market before entering the facility, they have cool drinks, sandwiches, and snacks-they are amazing and cheap. The pool is in a convenient location if you just want to float around or play around. They are a public pool owned by the city, so they do have to enforce rules more than private pools do. There is a kiddy pool, and there is a diving section in the main pool. It's great for kids. Great for relaxing. Great for fun. People get butt hurt when they get told to "walk" by the lifeguards... or when any rule is enforced. Or some people complain because there are too many people... its a public pool... during the weekdays camps typically come in to the pool which gets busy, and other days during the week it is really calm. During the weekends no one shows up to swim sometimes. Weekends are oddly not busy at all usually. read more

My kids have been taking swim classes here for years.Classes have too many students enrolled for in the lower level of swimming courses. Sit close to pool.3 teachers for 8 students would be more appropriate for lower level classes. read more

We love having the Larkey Park Swim Center nearby our house. The facility is clean and well staffed. My 2 children (2 & 4 years) took swim lessons last summer - the only drawback to our experience was the 2nd swim term we signed up for was at the end of their season and the water temperature was extremely cold. My kids were unable to get into the water and missed 1/2 of their classes as a result. read more

Larkey Park Swim Center is one of the best swim centers around the area, my daughter and my nephew love this place, it is clean and in a nice location. I would prefer that it would be open longer, it closes so early in the summer when the sun is still out. The kids are so disappointed when we have to go home early, I wouldn't mind paying a few more dollars for longer hours in the summer. Overall great place for the kids. read more

Perfect place to bring kids, especially little ones. The lifeguards are very polite, well mannered teens who are very diligent. There is a deli right around the corner if you forget food and you can get an in-and-out pass for an additional 50 cents. read more
