This place should be closed down! Go to Presidential Oaks or Encompass - only those who you wish to…read morepunish should go to Harris Hill! It is unsafe, negligent, unprofessional, and that is putting it kindly. While most of the administrative workers were friendly they were either underqualified, overwhelmed, or just pretending to care because their practices were appalling! Amy, Josh, and Christine should either undergo lots of training, or find a different profession. I know it must be extremely difficult to work in their profession, but it's a big deal - the physical and mental well-being of others, and lives are literally at stake. This facility is in dire need of new administration/leadership! My father was there for rehabilitation for a little less than a month. Nobody manned the entrance, admission paperwork was signed upon discharge, my father had an activated DPOA (which they activated - and I did agree) and yet they had him signing legal forms. Additionally, he was not taken care of (the exception is the therapists - they seemed to do their job). My brother and I tried our best to be positive but when your loved ones' hygiene is neglected, basic needs are not being met, and it takes 30-45 minutes for patients to get a response, it is unacceptable. It never occurred to me, until about a week in that my father had not had his teeth brushed or been bathed. When I inquired, they said he hadn't asked. He was a fall risk (so he was not allowed to get up without supervision), and was dealing with severe cognitive decline (hence his reason for being there). Additionally, he was almost always covered in urine. He shouldn't have to ask for basic care. The room my father was placed in was dirty; other people's items were stored in his closet, behind the door, and in the corner of his half of a small room. I would wipe down the table that my father used, his sink area, and the floor whenever I visited (it was always sticky - EW!). At discharge time (despite it being planned over a week in advance), the paperwork hadn't even been started. It took hours! Additionally, they provided an insufficient amount of meds upon discharge, which was a headache and a blessing; since the meds should have been covered by insurance but it wasn't because of the paperwork they had my father sign (again - he had an activated DPOA). I realize this is a lengthy post, but the issues with Harris Hill were endless. I am a caretaker for 4 elderly adults, and I have been to several rehabilitation centers; fortunately, the wretched conditions at Harris Hill are not the norm in other facilities throughout the state. It is hard enough to see a loved one have to battle through the physical and mental challenges they face, but to provide a facility that is less than substandard is disheartening. Please note, in addition to the therapists, Julia (social worker) was a delight to work with. She went above and beyond trying to resolve the errors of others. Harris Hill should be filled with more people like Julia.

I live out of state and came up to Massachusetts for two days to be with my friend. During my time visiting I notice that staff wasn't attentive as they claimed to be. Basic end of life care is such a sensitive time and if you are a patient there with no family, it's a very lonely place. I needed to track down staff several times asking for the basics. Water, coffee, soup, straw, mouth swabs, how about shaving my friend, change of a diaper. I had the time to sit with my friend, the staff did not. Two days after I returned home I received a call at 11:09am from Christa H. at the Sawtelle Hospice House informing me that my friend had passed away. When I ask Christina what was the time of my friends passing she replied, "about 20 minutes ago and I was with him". As comforting as it may sound, it was a blatant lie. When I received the official death certificate from the town of Reading, the MD who came into Sawtelle that morning documented and pronounced my friends passing at 6:00am that morning. My two stars go to the 2 social workers that were compassionate and professional. Linda B. RN and former hospice nurse.

I spoke with this nurse who not only broke HIPAA but when I specifically asked her whether it would be a good time to visit my aunt, she advised that I would be welcome to come visit at any time during the facility visiting hours. Upon arrival, I was accosted by this LPN and told that she had "already had to make her family leave" as my dying aunt was growing increasingly agitated because Tyler, LPN "can't be expected to keep up with all these med passes while family is in the way so now I'm playing catch up." My lovely and adored aunt passed away early the following morning and I was never allowed to relay my father's message to her before she was gone exclusively due to this LPN's "authority" in which she would not "permit" me "access to (HER) patient". This human who made ethical promise to "do no harm" did at least express that she found it "very unfortunate" that I had made the 2 hour trip (after speaking with her on the phone TWICE mind you) "for nothing". I have not yet filed a formal complaint with the agency that employs Tyler as we are still in mourning but, being a nurse myself with 10+ years of hospice experience specifically, I do intend to make the MA Board of Nursing aware of this individual's deplorable behavior in addition to holding the agency accountable for allowing a nurse holding a license that restricts her scope of lawful practice from providing imperative and ethical intervention implicitly resulting in inhumane practice supported by the agency during times when holistic and evidence based patient and their family's care and comfort are paramount in their most vulnerable and precious last days of life.

Their hospice facility might look impressive, but don't be distracted by appearances. What really…read morematters is the quality of care your loved one will receive. If you have Medicare, be aware that a Care Dimensions administrator must certify that your loved one is in the final stages of life before they can be admitted to the hospice facility, in order for Medicare to cover all costs. Otherwise, you'll pay out of pocket -- and that could be around $700/day to stay at this facility. If the patient has Medicare coverage, and is not in absolute final stages of life, they get the home hospice version of treatment. Which is not good. My husband suffered under their "care" during home hospice. One nurse told me after witnessing that he was throwing up all his meds and that included painkillers, nausea medications, and anti-anxiety medicine, that he couldn't be hospitalized because he wasn't "actively dying" yet. When he was gasping for breath and in pain, the nurse told him the medicine would kick in, in an hour and to RELAX. Do not risk that your loved one's last hours will be spent in agony because of this company's incompetence and lack of respect for human suffering. Have to rate in order to post, otherwise would give a 0-star rating.
