Just had another pair of boots fixed, awesome job, worth every penny and will continue to visit every time I am in town, so convenient to have the airfield nearby for a quick drop off! I've used Cobbler Bob's West Concord Shoe Repair shop for over 30 years. In Nov 2020 my father, who lives in western Mass, showed me his favorite Mephistos shoes. The stitching was gone in several places. He had recently had them resoled by an incompetent cobbler. One sole had already started separating. My dad had tried to fix it himself and it was a mess! I said- "Give them to me. I know who can fix them!" I brought them to Bob and 10 days later picked them up. Other than still having that 'lived in" look of a favorite pair, they looked brand new. One could not tell the areas of fixed stitching from the original, the soles looked perfect and he had polished and buffed them to a soft sheen. I have read positives and negatives about this place. It is a very old school type operation. However, the owner does check his phone messages and he got back to me about my issue. I have these wonderful Hoka gortex boots that have one serious flaw. The top upper eyelets are just horrible to deal with when you lace them up. I talked to him on the phone about my problem and he had a plan to replace them. It took about a week, which was fine. It cost about $30. The new eyelets are much better and the boots look like these were the original intended equipment. It's great to have a place like this, quirky though it is. read more

I am consistently happy with their work! This is a family owned business, the owner and his wife take a lot of pride in their work and are great at communicating what exactly needs to be done for your shoes and why. They are willing to work with your schedule and will go out of their way to get your repairs done if you need it sooner. They are very reasonably priced and are cash/check only. I took both my Frye boots and my Lucchese cowboy boots here and trusted that they were in good hands. My Frye boots needed to be resoled as well as a new heel. My Lucchese's needed a lot of work including a leather resole, a new heel (that had been worn past the rubber and into the leather part) and a broken zipper. They did a great job and also maintained the intentionally rustic/worn-in look of the cowboy boots. read more

I give NOBODY a five star review. I'm just one of those "get off my lawn" curmudgeons. However, every time I go into CSR, they put taps on my shoes virtually immediately (while I wait) and they point out work that may need to be done in the future. I just had them repair a 3.25 year old Samsonite leather satchel (Samsonite wouldn't honor their 3 year warranty - don't get me started), and the work is fantastic! They put a couple of brass rivets in where Samsonite should have and it's now bulletproof. Twenty bucks. I'm happy. read more

Riding boot crisis. Worn a hole in the side of my left boot rubbing against the buckles on the girth. Needed the next day. Bob did an emergency repair --and found two more holes that needed patching-- and the boot is now fabulous. Can't recommend this place highly enough! read more

This shop is located in a charming section of Concord, with little storefronts lining a tree-shaded sidewalk by a train station. My husband recommended it to me, so one day I stopped by with a couple of pairs that needed repair. I walked in, in awe of the timeless quality of the space. It was as though 100 years had slipped away. As I handed over my shoes, I realized that the shoes I was wearing could use some work too. So I took them off as the owner helped me, and I stood barefoot in the store (luckily my car was parked nearby). He punked me too - I won't give away the joke in case he uses it on others - it was really funny. An unforgettable, quirky experience. I hope I have more shoe issues so I can return again sometime soon. read more

Last week, I brought three pairs of shoes for sole replacements and touchups on scuffs. I was told come back same time next week to pick them up. I came back at the suggested time. Without saying anything to me, the store owner left the front of the store to talk on the phone for ten minutes. When he returned, he looked for my shoes and said they were in progress. He clearly hadn't started work on them. He said he'd do it and have it later in the day, and that I should wait. I told him I would come back the next day. I came back the next day, and the work had just barely been finished - one of the pairs of shoes was still wet to the touch. I will never return to this store, even though I live right down the street. read more

Went by to drop off a pair of sandals that needed a simple stitch for repair. As I walked up, the gentleman was sitting in a chair on the phone and clearly saw me walk in with shoes in my hand. He walked into the back room - continued his conversation on the phone - essentially ignoring me. I could hear him pacing back and forth while he spoke. Never acknowledged me (maybe, "Just a moment, please"?) After a true 4 minute wait - I walked out. Very disappointed - years ago was the best place - now not sure where I'm going to go. read more

Zipper crisis. I've been driving around for the last month, stopping at various tailors and shoe repair shops, looking for someone who would even attempt to fix the badly jammed heavy duty zippers on a barely worn Columbia jacket I had already sent to the manufacturer for repair under warranty, who had sent it back with a note that they could not. Bob took a look at it and said he probably could but that it would require some work and to come back in 15 minutes. "Tough job," he said, and told me it would be another 10 or so minutes. I waited in the store, slightly embarrassed at how anxious I was to hear the outcome of the procedure. For joy. He fixed it. I don't know what he did, but unlike everyone else who had taken a look, he had the ingenuity and the determination to do the job. If you have a broken zipper, Bob at Concord Shoe Repair is your man. In fact, maybe he should rename his shop Shoe and Zipper Repair. read more

I love shoes and wear out the soles quite often. However, I want to keep wearing them so I am always in search of a new shoe repair place. I work in the area and we would get salads at Walden Italian Kitchen. I noticed this little place and started dropping my shoes off before lunch to get tips on the heels and then pick them up after lunch. Super easy, convenient, and about $10/pair. Well, I needed rubber soles to protect the bottoms of three pairs of my favorite heels/boots - kind of winterizing them. I described what I needed and they nicely explained it would cost a bit - over $100 total for three. I wrote them a check and picked them up in a week. They were great! They used nice, thick rubber that won't slip (even blended it into the rest of the sole for a nice uniformed look) and touched up the toes. It was expensive but less so than getting three new pairs of shoes! I will definitely be taking another pair of boots and my treasured flats soon. read more

This is where I bring my shoes when the heels wear down. And I once found a great looking pair of comfy shoes which unfortunately didn't have the minimum 1 inch heel I prefer. I took the shoes here to ask the shoemaker if he could add some height to it. He explained very nicely exactly how much heel he could add without compromising the shoe. I think the world of this little shop. They've fixed shoes I've been holding onto for years, waiting for the right person, an artist, not a butcher. He resoled my favorite boots, resized an belt my husband cherishes, and made a hole in a favorite pair almost disappear. He might be a few days later than he says, but I've also seen him take a pair being dropped off into the back and come out with it fixed in 10 minutes. He's an old world style cobbler practicing a disappearing skill. I recommend him highly and hope you'll help me keep him in business. read more

It's tough to review this shop because experience varies so much. Some times service and quality is great, other times service feels rushed and quality isn't so great (also rushed). You do just have to laugh when you go in to pick up a small repair and the owner rushes to the back room yelling "I'll be right with you" when he's obviously doing the repair right then. First, it was $70 just to replace the zipper on 1 of my tall boots. I know of multiple other shops that do it for $30 / boot, but I work at Dover Saddlery and we use this guy for our boot repairs...so I thought I was paying for quality. Plus, the closest cobbler that does it for $30 was in Waltham, and with rising gas prices it soon wouldn't have been much of a savings. Anyway, he wasn't very understanding that I'm a trainer and ride horses everyday...it's my main source of income. Not to mention that if I don't ride the young horses everyday, I'll be taking my life in my own hands when I finally do get on. I wasn't expecting to have them back the next day, but 10-14 days???! So obviously the 10-14 day turn around is kind of annoying, especially considering what they charge. I know I can get it done cheaper and faster at other places that are a bit father away...next time, I'll buck up and make the drive! Wasn't that pleased with his service (though he seems very pleased with himself). Attitude aside, not spectacular services and they charge an arm and a leg for it! read more

The heel on my leather booties had worn down and was peeling off so when I was in Concord I took the opportunity to have them fixed. It was a bit impulsive, I was actually wearing the shoes when I came in and asked to wait while they were fixed. He was so kind and suggested walking me to where my car was parked and taking my shoes there so that I could wait for them in the comfort of my car. When they were finished he brought them right out to my car and let me pay him right there - so convenient! He really went out of his way to accommodate my last minute request, and the shoes were beautiful, with new glossy black heels. I will certainly be going back!! read more
