The new captain is great. Kite fishing for 100 lb bluefin. Caught four of them on the kite with my dad despite him being sea sick.

After reading the reviews, all the negative reviews have been addressed, and i had no issues on this boat I did not see anything that was reported on the negative reviews. The crew was on point! Condor Trip 7/16-7/19 Number 1, Your bait was substandard. Bait pen was overflowing due to the dead bait clogging the drain. Bait was battered and beaten looked like the bait left over front the last trips. Number 2, Captains positioning of vessel in relation to Kelp Patty's, Boils, and Schools beneath us. He positioned us too close one Kelp Patty's where the Patty was under the boat. He positioned us bow in towards a boil down wind from the boil and really never had a chance with the flylining crew to get out bait near the fish. Same goes for the school beneath us. Number 3. Captain was not loud enough on the speaker to and mumbled many times. Even deck hands was not informed on which side, what technique, dropper, or flyline what depth they were all just standing around etc. Really left the the Anglers clue less. He was the working the Sonar and the wheel. They need to tell us and be firm on the instructions so everyone knows exactly where to place our bait. The deckhands themselves were clueless at times as to what captain was saying. Number 4, This trip was more like a day of cruising intead of 1.5 day of fishing. Captain quit looking when we still had anglers ready to rock. Number 5, your ad stated Mexican license included. The boat never crossed the border and pretty much stayed within eyesight of the harbor about 18 miles out We could easily boarded a full day trip for half the cost and caught fish. When we saw a, BFT boil in front of the Condor on Sat. Morning (7-17-2021). We all shouted out to the captain & crew they totally ignored me and other fisherman's your suppose to cater to the customer it was more like a boat cruise to kill time. The boat did not get close enough to catch a BFT. Boat positioning was not good!! Our main complaints are the boat positioning, and not giving the anglers time to fish. When we started fishing Captain said drop our lines at 250' then we were told to reel up not even 2 minutes in the water this was consistent through the whole trip. Hey! We need time to show bait to the Bluefin!!! We understand that fishing is never guaranteed We do group fishing myself & Capt. Gad here in the Bay Area But at least give us a fighting chance, with good bait, knowledgeable Captain, informed crew, provide us with actually 1.5 days of fishing rather than a whale/watching cruise. We probably made only 10 stops from this trip with 2 minute drops. smh I chartered with over 50 plus boat, fished Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas & Costa Rica at Crocodile Bay lodge even was offered a job by Todd Stanley The director there as a captain. All the Captain s and crew were knowledgeable & professional. BTW the food was not all that for the money we paid I would have been happy with a McDonalds Quarter Pounder meal. Where all very disappointed. We drove all the way from San Francisco the least you can do is refund for all 7 of us half for our disappointment. Whoooooaaaaaa!!! I've fished this boat a few times. Every time I do I have an awesome time. Besides the double beds that sleep so well...... the crew. Awesome group of guys. Then you pair all that with just the right kind of anglers. You know, the kind who are there to have a great time away from the normal day to day. Boom!! Of course catching lots of fish is a huge bonus and we did that. But I have to say, even if we hadn't, I would still have had a great time. When the captain stops the boat and let's you fish even though they aren't biting.... Gold. You see, I'm an angler. I love to fish. If my rod is in the water I'm in my element. It's up to me to figure out what the fish go for and that's the fishing part. Live bait setup. Jig setup. Dropper loop setup. Cold sniper setup. Yo yo jigs. Flat falls. I mean cmon! You can't tell me that one of these ain't gonna work until you've given me the opportunity to try them all. That's the job of the captain. Put me on fish. This captain did good with that part. There were more than a few stops and Pattie's where we got nothing. But the boat stopped and gave us the opportunity to try. That's what I talking about. read more

The longer you are on the water, you start looking for small things that the boats offer which makes your trips better. For example, the Vagabond offers a fountain drink machine which produces ice. This helps you stay cool in them long summer days. The Condor has an AC galley and they keep it cold. This helps you stay cool and away from the sun. Ive been on plenty of boats were their galleys are extremely hot and you can't find refuge from the sun. The Condor also has a second level which allows you the ability to get away and get some alone time. We all know that at times, we can end up on a trip with annoying people. The crew are super cool. Greg does a killer job in the galley and loves to fish. On one occasion, I saw several passengers pass him their Rod and he caught their fish for them. This was only a big deal because we were catching big blue fin and he was taking it like a champ. Kriss is a little rough around the edges but has extensive knowledge about fishing. I would recommend that you pick his brain and ask him plenty of questions. You'll be surprise how much he opens up and helps you out. Overall, this is a good boat. Other boat recommendations: Liberty (Taro is a great captain), Vagabond, Excel, Tomahawk and the Apollo with Jodie. read more

Recently returned from another day and a half trip aboard the Condor and once again they provided a great experience. Even though they had a light load, they still went the distance (over 200 miles round trip) to put us on the fish. Let me start by saying I booked this trip based on the overwhelming amount of reports about how stellar the dorado fishing was in San Diego. Every fish report I saw prior to this trip detailed boats getting LIMITS of dorado. I was originally going to book with the Mustang but due to the size of the Condor I thought it would be a better ride. This decision turned out to be a big mistake as the Mustang went out on the same day and LIMITED on dorado. Not only did the Mustang LIMIT on that trip the reports show every trip this week they LIMITED on dorado. This trip started by me driving 500 miles to San Diego to fish for DORADO and yellow tail. I brought gear based on the advertised trip of fishing for dorado, yellowtail, and yellowfin. This is what was advertised for the trip on the Condor website. After boarding and having the deck hands walk around and help rig some guys gear for yellowtail, with 15 minutes to depart, deck hands began asking everyone if they had heavy gear and if not they could rent some. So with 15 minutes to go, with 37 guys, on board the captain rug pulls the entire trip and scores another $1500-2000 on rentals/gear for the Fisherman's Landing tackle shop. Now if I wanted to fish for Bluefin, I would have come to SD in June/July or earlier when the Bluefin bite was on not when some are reporting the hottest Dorado bite they've seen in a long time. The Captain then takes us just west of Point Loma where those who rented gear fished for 2.5 hours and less than 10 anglers brought in 10 bluefin, most no bigger than 40 lbs. The captain calls it at 0230 and I wake up at 0630 to find we're trolling south but no further south than west of Rosarito. The captain starts looking for kelp and stops on a total of four. By 1030, instead of continuing south for more kelp paddies, we turn north and end up right back where we started chasing boils but never really staying long and no one the boat caught a fish after the kelp paddy at 10:00. The kicker is that then on the way in, the captain says he was sorry that not everyone caught fish but "That's fishing." Well no Captain if you don't target paddies and stop and let anglers put bait in the water it's not fishing it's a boat ride with an incompetent man at the wheel. This, like my last Bluefin trip, was a waste of time and money. At least if I got on a Hornblower for a boat ride it would come with a decent steak dinner. This captain was a joke and as a Business the owner of the Condor should seriously consider the legality of false advertising after sucking in 37 customers for a Dorado trip only to be given a boat ride. Do not waste your money or precious time with this Business, they do not respect their customers. read more

The crew are as good as any boat I've been on. Nice guys, helpful, and knowledgeable. This was a terrible day of fishing, apparently beyond control, but the guys in front of us were extremely professional. The captain never bothered to show his face, or explain his inability to find a fish in the ocean. We came back several hours early because of incoming weather that is apparently still incoming as I sit here for four hours waiting for Fisherman's Landing bait and tackle to open because they kept my credit card (physically), don't open for several hours, and don't have any contact with the boat. To make a bad situation worse, the captain was a sassy little prick about it on his way out. This crew is way to good for that useless "leader". read more

I booked with the condor based on their recent reports of fish limits. Flew in from NorCal and the boat looked great. They had brought in limits the morning we boarded for the 1.5 day trip. The first issue was we called ahead and we're told the boat had ice on board...wrong...no ice. we headed out and the captain told us to get some sleep and we would be on the fish around 3 am. 3 am came and went, next thing I know it's 6 am and starting to get light out which means no more blue fin fishing! Never a word from the captain and the crew. We got no briefing other than how to determine what side of the boat to fish from when he stopped. For the whole day we trolled randomly around the ocean while looking for kelp floats. When the captain would stop, he didn't give it much time at all. A couple of times he was telling us to reel up when we had fish biting. He often placed the boat on the wrong side of the kelp based on drift and wind. The crew...how do I say this...they sucked. The only briefing we had was how to fill out the clip board when we had drinks or meals on the boat. I asked a boat hand one time if he could give me some advice on leaders and he said everyone would be getting a briefing later. Never had a briefing. Two of the three deck hands stayed on the top deck looking through binoculars all day. The deck hand down below was a tall guy who was clearly under the influence, chewing his cheeks and tongue all day, smoking, and would not engage in conversation at all. He listened to hard rock most of the time until his speaker battery died. Worthless! A couple of the trollers got tangled pretty bad...did the deck hand come to help? Nope...he did throw them a pair of line cutters while he was sitting in his lawn chair tripping. The crewman who worked in the kitchen was awesome. He worked his ass off, cooked good stuff, and was friendly and funny. He was the only bright part of the whole trip. We caught a couple of random yellow fin, a few small dorado, but that was it. There were 37 of us on the boat, maybe 5 fish caught. The captain made apologies for no fish and said none of the other boats were catching either, and blamed it on the hurricane. The fishermen on board were great and we had a lot of fun. We joked a lot that this was more of a cruise than a fishing trip because we drove all over the place and fished for maybe a total of an hour. The crew never interacted with us, we never saw the captain, and I have to say this was the worst trip I have ever been on in my 58 years of fishing. I have been on plenty of trips where we didn't catch fish, and I understand that's just fishing, but even on those trips the captain and crew would interact more, teach us things, joke with us, anything...but not these guys. When we pulled into the harbor I watched to see what the other boats had caught. It was clearly a difficult day for everyone, but all the boats had more than we did. I never did see the crew when I departed the boat, they had all disappeared. What a joke. That made it even easier to give no tip for their failed service. When I got home I checked the internet for fish counts. Guess what boat didn't even post a count? You guessed it...the Condor. All other boats that posted for 1.5 day trips did far better than we did! Good stuff- the rental equipment was good, the guys in the store were very helpful. The accommodations weren't bad although it was a little hot in the bunk rooms. Food was good, not bad prices. The cook/ galley guy was great. The fisherman were awesome, a great group of guys and we had a lot of fun despite the poor skipper and staff! Bad stuff- crew sucked, no interpersonal skills or customer service skills. Captain didn't address the fishermen at all, talked rarely on the PA system, seemed very disconnected from us. He positioned the boat poorly, left areas too quickly, and didn't seem like he had a lot of experience. when I look at some of the reviews I have to think there must be a couple of different crews because some of the reviews are great. Unfortunately we didn't get the right crew! My advice, stay away from the Condor. There are other boats in San Diego that provide great service and until the owner makes some changes to his crew, I won't fish the condor again. read more

Two stars is generous, given only because the boat, the Condor, won the fishing derby that day with the big fish. This was a first time tuna trip for me and a friend, last June and I was disappointed with the boat, crew, and captain. Their assistance began and ended with rigging the rods before departure. From then on there was no help whatsoever, even when asked. Not with bait, technique, or finding our rods - which is a complete cluster circus on this boat - when there are 2-3 rods/person and anyone grabs any rod (I later read reviews about Fisherman's Landing charging for "lost" rods). I even asked about weights sold me but crew just didn't explain how the weights were rigged up. The same crew had plenty of time for an extra smoke and to chat it up with regulars. Then there was the fishing. It was not hot; 23 total fish for 37 passengers; including several customers with overlimit. You would think they could have divided those fish among the groups that got none; at least a fillet or two; but no. Those with 4 or 5 fish gave them to whoever they wanted to; leaving my party of two and many others with nothing. The captain made a point of me not being in his view (2 hours before departure, boat tied to dock, I was taking a few pictures from the upper deck). Interestingly, I won this trip at a fish show in Sacramento, where Fisherman's Landing donated the overnight trip ticket for a give-away after Steve Carson's talk that spoke glowingly about this boat and that. I spent at least 3X the value of that won ticket on plane fare/hotel, gear, gear rental, and incidentals, and got nothing but seasick and insulted by a surly captain and his crew. I felt lucky to return all the rental rods (my fishing partner stood guard for the 3+ hour run back to the landing, after an hour even finding them, no thanks to the crew). If I do this again, it will be on any other boat besides the Condor. Notably, Fisherman's Landing didn't return to the Sacramento fishing show, and Carson didn't mention them at all in his 2024 presentation. read more

Fished the Condor last year and the food was really great, and that was the best thing about the trip. The young Captain thought it was a good idea to bring his girl friend on the trip and while she and he were having fun in the captain's chair, the hard working fishermen who paid a 1000 bucks for there trip weren't doing to good. Not the best business plan for success. We did have a father and son on the boat that had very limited experience and they continued to have very limited fishing knowledge due to the fact the deck hands were extremely lazy and did not take the time to show them the way to potentially catch a fish. I will warn you if do go out on the boat and you have to deal with this tall lanky guy good luck, straight garbage attitude. I have been fishing out of San Diego for 40 years and been on some really great boats, American Angler, Excel, Red Roster 111, Producer, Pacific Queen, Searcher and many others. This boat and crew were head and shoulders no doubt about it the worst I've ever experienced. l retired from the USMC after 22 years and did two combat deployments as an 03 and it just makes me sick to see this kind of piss poor service. read more

Fished the Condor last week for the first time with my fishing buddy Rock Cod Pete, We usually go on a very popular boat out of Fishermans Lansing , this time we wanted to try the Condor and we didn't know how it would compare, First impressions were very positive, we met out crew felt good about things, the boat is very nice and roomy, sleeping bunks we nice and wide, the girl deckhand with dreadlock hair was a little green not very informed but the rest of the crew was on it, specially Capitan Jimmy and our Cook Greg, Happy Birthday Greg, Food was very good and clean Galley, we had a greet fishing trip catching YFT and BFT, we both agreed that we will go back on the Condor again read more

I just got back from a 1.5 day trip on the condor and had an awesome time. The crew was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and the captain never stopped searching for fish. Unfortunately the bluefin bite slowed down, but that just made the crew work harder. I work on a charter boat in Santa Cruz and can tell when a crew is trying and these guys were busting there ass. And even though not everyone went home with bluefin, the captain put us on some quality tail. Thanks captain and crew, you guys kicked ass, and made the drive down the coast worth it! read more

DO NOT GO ON THIS BOAT !!! Worst trip ever ! I talked 8 friends of mine to go on a day and a half trip and what a mistake 440.00 bucks wasted ! We left on Sept. 7th and returned early on Sept 9th at 1:00am the trip was so bad they did not post it they posted they took a couple of days off due to the storm such B.S. There were 37 anglers with 14 fish caught and you spent most of the time tangled with other lines and had to deal with that on your own cause the deckhand was useless ! He spent most of his time sleeping in a camping chair on top of the bait tank. We spent the whole time circling the same area with nothing ! We seen a couple of boats heading North as we continued to stay South and you would ask why if theres no fish ? All the other boats that were out posted good numbers ! So why didnt we head North ? Do not belive the reports from this boat I highly recommend you taking another charter. read more

***SCAMMER ALERT!*** Overnight trip (24 hrs) I was on was from 8/21. 37 anglers/sold out. Remember this number. It was promoted as a dorado and yellowtail targeted trip with "other" fish mixed in for $310 plus $10 "service fee!" The dock reports were boats were coming back with limits of dorado and yellowtail. We were told light to medium tackle needed. Additional "fuel charge" of $20! RED FLAG #1! Fifteen minutes before we were supposed leave a deckhand asked if we had heavy gear for bluefin. He said we were targeting bluefin tonight and would need between 80-100 pound line to handle them. He directed us back to the tackle shop where we could rent a heavy rod and purchase heavy lures to drop down to them. RED FLAG #2! The majority of us did not have heavy gear and pressured to fish instead of being spectators. The rental for a heavy rod was $60. The lure suggested by the staff was $45 and a heavy leader line I believe was $10. RED FLAG #3! Captain brief: warning not to smoke illegal drugs and that we'd be fishing for Bluefin around 11pm. The crew never offered help or check drags. Pretty standard stuff on most boats. RED FLAG #4 I was up before 11 and went up to the deck to find others on board already fishing. No announcement was made by the entire crew below to get ready. Another common theme with the rest of the trip as no information was relayed. RED FLAG #5 We made approximately five stops. Some produced bluefin and others zero. Last stop was at around 1:30am and motored around till 2:30am before the captain called it quits. Scores for the 37 anglers? 10 bluefin. One guy hooked up three passing off the rod to a friend and another guy hooked two. So for 37 anglers, 30 did not get a fish! Up at 6am to see we're already trolling and nothing was announced below again. I watch as one guy throws a fly line over as the boat slowed and gets a dorado. Again, nothing said to the anglers. The captain begins looking for kelp patties from then to around 10:30am. We stopped at FOUR pattie's as we motored north. Twice the captain said to reel our rigs up as fish were still biting and on the line. After the fourth patty the captain started blowing past other pattie's continuing north! One of the crew member even thought it was odd we stopped for bluefin and had not gone further south for the reported limits of dorado and yellowtail! RED FLAG #6 Crew chain smoking and radio blasting 70's rock. The music muffled the already low volume from the captain's intercom speaker. When asking crew what the captain said, the repeating answer from deckhands was "I don't know." Then without stopping from 10:30ish, he motored north to almost ten miles out of the San Diego harbor. There were lots of boats in the area as bluefin boiled at the surface on small baitfish. Every time we got close the tuna would dive and not touch anything we had to offer. We spent the next FIVE hours rolling up on boils with lockjaw tuna. The definition of insanity. The captain would yell out to the crew to chum throughout the trip. Only 5-10 or so sardines would be thrown out. During our fish watching tour, the captain broke off from the area to a boat called the "Intrigue." He gave the six pack boat several scoops of bait and said over the intercom, "that's the owner of this boat." Funny the anglers seem to have rented the boat for the time and bait so technically it's "the angler's" boat. While motoring around looking for the next boil to spook, I went up to see what exactly they were doing to increase our odds. Both another angler and I had to point out boils they had not seen. At one point while one deckhand reclined in the seat glassing right, the captain stopped, took off his shoes and socks and began picking the toe jam from between his toes while 37 anglers waited! Numbers: 10 bluefin of which 7 people got them, 22 dorado, 3 yellowtail and 1 yellowfin. Zero limits or even fish per person! All to bank on 10 bluefin? We came in early so they could get the next round of suckers onboard at 8pm! Oh, and on the failed return trip to the harbor, the captain feels the need to get over the intercom and ask for tips because they worked hard to get us on fish and that's fishing not catching. I've owned my own boat for 35 years fishing the ocean and have been on a few charters. Rule number one, get your clients limits of fish! Bluefin was not what we had been told and the plan changed without notice or consent. This boat, the owner and almost the entire crew are jokes. It is one big scam. If you are looking to book a trip and fill your freezer with fish during this jacked up economy to feed your family, DO NOT BOOK THEM! Also research the owner to see what other boats he's pimping out because I'm sure the same business practices are in place. read more

Where to start. Boat was nice deck hands were helpful just a bad day of fishing. Never saw captain had a deckhand give briefings. I've gone fishing on a lot of boats all around the world and always have the captain come talk mingle and just check on you not this one. We should of left atv9 and started out but we stayed at bait barge a couple of hours instead of heading sout then work our way up. I won't be back on the condor. read more

Well I'm with the other folks with the poor reviews. Seemed we were on the wrong path from the beginning of the trip. Captain headed south towards the Hurricane/Tropical Depression or whatever weather disturbance was going on. Didn't see any other boats heading that way. Crew was alright and yes the cook was probably the most personable guy on the crew. Captain was complaining about the counts and that the owner wouldn't be happy. We never sank more than two baits in the water on any kelp. Fished bluefin during the early morning hours (daylight) which I have never done before. We basically only caught fish on the troll moving the entire trip felt we covered the entire west butterfly east butterfly and sixty mile bank. Stopped on one caught some yellowfin and dorado on fly line bait but split pretty quick because the weather was creeping up on us. Captain did try to hit some tuna grounds but I guess the weather wasn't allowing so we headed to the slip 4 hours early. Seems could tried north or towards San Clemente Island probably do better. I did look at other boats counts, did well, better than us. I can see if this was full day or 3/4 day time is limited but this was a 1.5 day should of been better. It would be better if the captain(s) would of communicated with us and let us know. I know they crushed five days in row of bluefin but knowing that weather was there probably change it up. read more

Although I feel most of the crew did a fair job, especially Miguel who was very helpful to everyone, this boat was filled with raw rookie fisherman for the most part. No one moving around the rail, casting from the middle of the group just cuz there was a small opening to squeeze between two people, bunched up in the corners and even though some of us kept stating to move down the rail this should be part of the crew's job, especially when the boat is full of rookies. Nothing was said to the group during the meeting about rail etiquette or common courtesy. Some of the crew were chain smokers so for those of those that aren't it was just one more thing to have to deal with. I have been on many boats where during the evening meeting prior to fishing they ask the smokers to do so at the back of the boat as a courtesy to others. I hope the crew and Captain take this as constructive criticism to make their boat a more desirable boat to fish but I for one will not be back. I usually fish 15-20 days on board the Fisherman's landings or H&M fleets each summer and thought I would give the Condor a try,,,,, Miguel,,,, YOU WERE GREAT! read more
