I usually service my own reels after every season but this year I did not have the time. The guys at squidco always provide great customer service so I decided to give them a shot. When I dropped off my reels, Joey was upfront told me the estimated wait time was 8-16 weeks. I was hesitant but decided to leave it anyways. After 2 weeks I received a text that they were done. I am amazed by the service here that I dropped off a few more reels for them to take care of. I would not hesitate to trust these guys. When I do this on my own and need to order parts, usually it can take months to get from the distributors. Luckily these reels just needed cleaning and grease. This is my baby. The very first reel I ever purchased. I bought it used from a friend who was upgrading and since I was still new to fishing, I was happy to spend the $100. I believe he thought he found a sucker. That was 10 years ago. Since then, I have a huge arsenal of Talicas, Avets and Accurates that are of the latest technology with lever drags and multiple speeds. But this is still my favorite. From rock cod at 700 feet to tuna..... This baby is a beast. As the 2923 season ended, she was running a bit ruff so I took her in. Wow! Baby needed some work. Her insides were old and showing it. Now Squidco had already put a new knob on her after the original broke off. So of course I knew they'd fix it. But Oh Nelly!! I didn't expect this. She wasn't turning this good when I first got her. She's like a new reel. The $105 I spent to replace her crusty bearings, tighten the handle, and get her cleaned and lubricated was more than I originally paid..... and I'd do it again!! Woo!! Got a Daiwa Seagate rod and BG 4500 reel to match. The young man helped me pick out lead heads, swim baits etc that are appropriate for my setup. I came in there having no idea what I was doing but had two Walmart poles and my own homemade tackle box. New to fishing. I went on an overnight trip not knowing what to bring. I went to Seaforth Tackle shop the day before the trip asking what I would need and all I got was that I can rent my gear. Then on the trip, I found out what I should have brought stuff like glow in the dark tackles, etc. That would have been good to know!! My coworker told me to go to Squidco and I wish I came here a ling time ago. Ryan was super helpful. The staff seemed more helpful than other tackle shops I've been to like Dana Landing, Turners and Seaforth. Since I still don't know much about fishing, its nice to just pick the brains of the experts. The staff was nice and I felt more comfortable there than any of the other ones. Once inside we noticed how much items was packed into their small stores. They have a huge selection of whatever fishing tackle you might need and all reasonable priced like other places. Really great customer service! I met Joey the owner (really nice guy) and he had his guy Mike help me. Right off the bat they offer you soft drinks and water. How thoughtful is that! You can tell he's a good guy because all the people working for him are really nice people. I was looking for a new reel and I had lots of questions! Mike PATIENTLY went over the reel with me and showed me how it worked, what was great about it and what the differences were from the other reels. Then we talked about fishing lines and I opted for the braid. He let me make two videos of him showing me how to tie the knots, so when I had to do it myself I would be able to. I literally probably asked him a 100 questions! I keep bringing this up because you don't want someone that just rushes you in and rushes you out. Mike really knows his stuff! Then he discussed rods with me and showed me pros and cons of what kind of rod to use and why to use certain rods. He also explained what all of the specs on the sides of the rods meant. After that he then went over all the different kinds of hooks and why some are good for some things and when to use the other kind. He also showed me different jigs explained about the weights of them and why you would choose one for one thing in some for the other. Finally, Mike showed me places on the nautical map of where they're fishing and what they're fishing for. Specifically where you can find certain fish. He also told me how deep to fish for the different kind of fish, what kind of jigs they were using and when in the year to use them. He also talked about how and where to hook live bait. Last but not least, I really think they have good prices. I looked up this reel that I got today online and it was $30 more dollars on all the websites. Love this place! A true education in fishing today! From now on this is going to be my go to place for all things fishing!
