The trailer trash who answered the phone took his name and said "He's been discharged." Confused, I said, "He is in the process of having stents placed... when was he discharged?" I was there for chest pain to keep it simple And not give too much detail. As someone with heart conditions I would've thought a heart monitor would be used. It was not instead I sat admitted in a wheelchair for 13 hours with my heart rate above 140 according to my watch, in the waiting room that was covered in trash and flies. I did take pictures. in the big waiting room they had rows of people in recliners. the one thing we all had in common was the lack of care and compassion from the staff. I went to nursing school many years ago when I would have been proud to say that. My mother fell this morning and I had to bring her to the ER. The place is filthy. The staff is rude. And I being in healthcare in administration all over the country have never seen an ER this bad. They see you and then throw you in a waiting room. This is sad and disgusting. read more

My grandfather has spent over 15 hours in the ER because he broke his hip, was told he was going to get a Bed about 5 hours after he got there. fast forward a whole night and he never got a bed. Just blatant lying to keep family members from asking questions or pushing duties off to the next shift. He has been waiting on a Physical therapist for further instruction since he does not need surgery. Also like many others state the waiting room is freezing. However, I will say that I spent a long time in the hospital and the care that I received was just about the worst care I've ever had. The hospital has no privacy for patients. There are curtains up where everybody can hear what you're talking about instead of walls, because duke lifepoint is cheap. The nurses take forever to get anything done because they don't communicate with each other or your doctors, and it affects patient care. There are not enough beds in the ER for their patients. They make you sit in extremely uncomfortable chairs for hours on end for absolutely no reason other than the fact that Duke life point is cheap and refuses to get actual good amenities for their patient. Most of the night staff is extremely rude. They are horrible. Do not go to this hospital. If you have to, literally drive to a UPMC clinic. This hospital is not a good hospital system. read more

4th floor ASU surgical floors are filthy- looks like they haven't been cleaned or waxed in a month! Uncaring, overweight "employees" abandoning their stations early (bound for the nearest feeding trough, most likely) leaving concerned relatives and friends to fend for themselves pointing to a telephone saying 'if it rings answer it. Old surgical masks on the floor! Instrument carts lined up in a hall unattended with hoses lying on the dirty floor- disgusting! This place is a medieval hell hole that should be shutdown, boarded up and those responsible hung by their testicles- if they have any. read more

The care here is horrible. Waiting hours to be seen just for them to tell me there's nothing they can do on, because it's not that important and it's nothing to worry about. Meanwhile years later I almost died from the same issues. Considering I worked here for years, you'd think I'd get some sympathy for this, but no I got fired. I recommended my entire family to go out to Altoona and finally family medical issues are getting taken care of. This place is worthless with the most careless employees. Working there was just as bad. Nursing staff openly talk trash on patients to whoever will listen, environmental staff cusses and talks on their phones during work and dietary is probably the worst. The staff regularly disrespect the patients, silverware is dirty, food is cold when it comes and in the cafe the women who work over there talk trash about the customers and act like it's a huge inconvenience that you're there to buy food. Conemaugh Hospital is absolutely terrifying! You will wait forever to be seen and they never give you a straight answer. My dad waited a week in the hospital bed before going to surgery for his ankle. His IV ran out which took hours to replace. When he returned, he had an abrasion on his eye which they didn't know how he got it and they left the surgical drill bit in his ankle. Over all experience was terrible. Father was in the emergency department in June. Getting care was next to impossible and the rudest people ever to get answers. Just this weekend mother was in the emergency department. Staff is just downright rude and disrespectful. The nurses providing direct patient care are amazing once you finally get to them but the process and to get there is challenging and such a negative experience. Soft skills need to be taught and reinforced. You are dealing with humans and their loved ones, not careless objects. Being a nurse practitioner, I am appalled at the mannerisms of this facility. read more

They accepted me as a patient KNOWING that the department I require is on covid lockdown, kept me overnight before even trying to find somewhere that can get me the treatment I need, and have been giving me the runaround all day with feeble excuses why I haven't been transferred yet. Conemaugh Hospital now run by Duke Lifepoint is not just a terrible hospital, it is downright dangerous! The ED literally almost killed my father when they administered a 10x overdose of atropine. The recommended dosage is 0.5 and they gave him a full 5! That is the dose ordered and administered and it put him in the ICU! What's more is he is still suffering side effects from it. To add insult to injury, when I contacted patient relations to complain and ask them how this could happen, they sent my father a letter saying they "spoke to the nurse who administered the medicine" and they hope this helps "bring this matter to a resolution". Beyond insulting! And let me not forget to mention that he hadn't lost consciousness at this point so they could have called for a cardiology consult- which they did not. And did I mention that his heart wasn't even the reason he went there? He was there for a bleed issue- which they never called for a consult on either. I would have given negative stars if I could because their care of my father wasn't just poor it was criminally negligent. read more

The only reason I am giving two stars instead of one- is because the doctor and his team that did my surgery were friendly and did a good job. I got a cyst removed. The hospital staff + billing team- horrible. I got a quote from the administrative/billing team that my surgery would cost $131 out of pocket. I told them I needed this to be true, because my family couldn't endure paying a ton for it. They said that's what insurance said and apparently I was dumb to trust them. I got a $1500 bill and that's after insurance coverage. The things they charged me for were ridiculous. I got charged for a "recovery room", which was literally the checkout process. There was NO recovery room. I went from to OR to the checkout desk. $10,000 charged to insurance for 35 minutes in the OR. Absolutely ridiculous. When I challenged the charge, the billing team told me they could rename the charge, but I'm still going to pay it. They don't allow any financial assistance to anyone with insurance. I am making payments, but the ridiculous difference in OOP costs was completely unfair. Do NOT trust them with billing, get something in writing. read more

Here we go again. Mom is taken into this facility with BP of 195/88. As her concerned family member, I call and Marcy answers the phone in the Emergency Department. I explain my mother is a patient, who I am, and ask for the nurse taking care of her. I get told, "we have no disposition on her, the doctor is with a critical patient, and the nurse is busy." Dead silence. I simply thank Marcy for her lack of additional options and disconnect the call. This is becoming more challenging than I could ever imagine. As a nurse practitioner, I would never just let a patient or family member without options. I wish I could give zero stars. I have called and left a message for patient relations. read more

Conemaugh Memorial is and excellent set of hospital building in Johnstown. Much like in any other area where they have a hospital, there is a cluster of connecting buildings that accommodate an array of services provided for medical care. Everything you can come across in a hospital you will find here. They have a decent gift shop that you can find necessities in and other small gifts from balloons to stuffed animals. A small coffee shop located in the main atrium. And a great cafeteria that offers food that doesn't taste too bad. They try to streamline the process in the cafeteria with touch screens and food already prepared for a quick lunch. The only thing that I do not like about this hospital system now is that they are part of the Duke LifePoint hospital system. A for profit system. read more

It's funny that after one hour in the ER waiting room, I decided to do a few things on my phone and lo and behold the home page that came up for free wifi stated that the wait time was 13 minutes. Seriously? I understand the ambulances and severely ill must be seen first, but there being one person ahead of us, we still waited 90 minutes to be called back. Facilites and Administration MUST do something about the arctic conditions in that waiting room! People were asking for blankets as that was entirely too cold. I enjoy air conditioning as much as the next guy but the majority of older people are cold 75% of the time and then to add arctic conditions on when sick, NOT acceptable! Once seen, the PA, and I'm sorry I didn't remember her name, and Marie, the RN were caring and explained everything to my husband. We were lucky he was able to return home after 4 hours. read more

I had the nurse from HELL at first and after she left I had 2 wonderful nurses come in that were very sweet and they said to report her but then it was discharge time and the horrific nurse hid her name. Didn't get any attention and had no food for over 40 hours and wasn't offered any. I had a horrible experience and hate the thought of ever having to go back. Was going to get 2 knee replacements done but scheduled them at Windber due to the great ratings versus Conemaugh. read more

I was in the ERon Monday night,I hurt my leg from the man who valet your car,to every intake person,nurse doctors t orderly every one was nice and pleasant and helpful even though it was very busy that nite.the valet man helped me in the door,the intake women behind the deck. Very nice fast to get my arm band on! After that I saw many nurses, a very nice P.A. She sent me to X-Ray and one person after another was very nice and helpful.the nurse kept come to my room asking if I wanted anything.then in came Dr. Ellis she was very sweet and understanding of my situation,told me every thing about my knee,said she read my X-Ray 's !I have been to a lot of ER s in my 63yrs but by far this one was the best,and I thank them all God bless you all read more

From my Father regarding the care of my Mother .... All night I seethed about the docs taking care of her. 1. No one ever mentioned getting a walker for safety and equally important, to help do the prescribed walking exercise with a broken ankle!!! 2. No experienced, interested person explained how to apply the back-brace properly. The patient had only a cursory in-bed (not upright) demonstration the night before hospital discharge of how to put it on. 3. No one advised the patient to expect and guard against the severe constipation associated with prescribed pain killers. The medical literature considers this a standard of good medical practice. Numbers 1, 2 and 3 seem like easy items for a patient in excruciating pain dealing with a fractured vertebra and ankle. Good thing my parents are savvy enough to watch You Tube videos on how to apply the back brace. read more

These doctors are amazing. They've treated my genital warts- not once- but TWICE. They came back unfortunately but it wasn't the hospitals fault- They do/did an amazing job and made me feel so much better and less embarrassed! read more

After 7:40 pm, the leftover food that the hospital does not use to feed their patients they take to a local homeless shelter to feed those who are unable to get themself. Instead of wasting the food, since the portion sizes are hard to maintain due to the lack of knowing how many patients will be admitted/discharged during the dinner hours, they over make food that shouldn't be wasted. read more

My father was recently hospitalized there for pain secondary to a splenic infarct. He's also a Pain Medicine physician that recently retired and used to work there at that very hospital. I'm disgusted with the way they treated him there. He called me in desperation for help and stated they would not treat his pain and even withheld pain medications because he refused to go get a CT done (because he couldn't tolerate the CT as he was in too much pain). They refused to give him IV pain medication because they believed it caused bradycardia. That I understand because IV narcotics can cause that. However, they also refused to give him his at-home oral pain medications which he takes for his back pain, at baseline. Even though he was acutely in exacerbated pain from the splenic infarct. They accused my mother of bringing in his medications and administering them anyway. They asked him to open his mouth to examine it with a flashlight so they could ensure there were no medications in his mouth. They treated him like a drug seeking patient, and their "pain team" was also involved. These are apparently pain management specialist. I'm not sure why need a team for something so straight forward. I would never imagine treating another human being like this. He's freaking' 79 years old and he has his own medical license and they treated him like some junkie off street. I called three times to speak with the nurse manager. I kept getting the run-around the whole time. I'm across the country in California and feel totally powerless to help. I asked them to file a complaint with the state. Just speechless..... read more

I have visited this hospital three times in the last three years. Once for my very ill father, once for myself, and once for my daughter. During all of these visits I have experienced extremely long wait times for nurses, doctors, and test results, Incorrect diagnosis, extreme laziness, and a general sense of apathy and ignorance. I will even go so far as to say in all three visits I have only experienced one nurse and one doctor that were nice or had any genuine concern for anyone's well being. I will never return to this hospital for any reason and will advise everyone I know to do the same by word of mouth, social media, etc.... I now understand why friends have told me this a place to go die. read more

This places has to be one of the lowest ranked medical centers in the country. I had the displeasure of visiting get this hospital a few times recently where a patient I knew was staying. Not only are the employees, doctors and nurses rude and unfriendly but the place is dirty and just plain nasty. I feel sorry for any person who gets admitted to this place. I have been to many medical centers all over this country in big cities and small towns and I have never experienced such a crude rude dirty place that calls itself a medical center. I honestly believe most of the doctors earned their medical degrees on line or from some foreign country and the nurses are all unhappy working in this pathetic sad place.
