Pick up food window and old nostalgia on the walls to enjoy!

This quaint little diner too me back ! Black and white checkered floor and old fashion bar stools ! The waitresses were inviting and pleasant with great smiles! The famous pea salad did not disappoint! Fresh, cold with delicious dressing ! The coney sauce had a unique flavor that will have me Coming back again! Great area surrounding diner with antique shops nearby with cute walking areas . Very cute place!

My double cheeseburger no bun and fries ($11-ish dollars)

I love this little place! A true 50's diner. The decor, the music, the service and the food. I felt like I should have dressed in Bobby socks to come in here to meet my letterman-sweater boyfriend for a strawberry milkshake Restaurant: so clean! Lots of spotless stainless steel, old-fashioned glitter booths in great condition and a very clean counter. My server was probably the sweetest person in all of Mansfield. It was my first time in here and she made me feel like a regular - just loved her. The food was good and so classic! I got a double cheeseburger w/ the works and fries. The (steak burger) burger is the old-fashioned hand made ones and fries were done perfectly. I finished my lunch with a cup of coffee - not Starbucks but Starbucks is not what you want. Diner-perfect coffee was great. If I'm ever back in Mansfield for lunch, I'll definitely drop by.

I was attracted to Coney Island Diner due to its awesome signage, and also the fact that I was craving a chocolate milkshake. My waitress was very kind and came to my table right away to ask what I wanted to drink. I ordered a chocolate milkshake and water, and then ended up getting a cheeseburger and coleslaw. The burger was fair, however when I went to eat my coleslaw I found a tiny, dead fly in it :/ I don't know if it was there before or if it had happened to land in there when I moved my fork, but there it was. Coleslaw aside, I enjoyed the environment and the staff. I can't say if I'd stop in there again for a meal, but I would drop in for a milkshake!

Pretty nice and relaxing place to bring your insane kids. Food was good and cheap. I got the Rueben.

So glad we stopped at this Diner vs. grabbing fast food. The atmosphere is great. Clean, old school feel. The food was fantastic.

A great family style eatery located in an iconic building that formerly housed a branch location…read moreof the original HOWARD JOHNSON restaurant chain , The interior of the facility retained the original Layout , colors , furniture and signage , ( down to the etched mirrors featuring the names of various ice creams ) installed in the 1950s when the establishment first Opened . Incidentally , said items were maintained in great shape , with the original booths and chairs at some point re-covered and new carpeting installed . At any rate , the place was clean , the food delicious , the service prompt and efficient , and the long time wait staff cordial and chatty . Long time customers knew each other from weekly ( or even daily ) visits for the breakfast , lunch and dinner specials , which gave the environment a true family style feel . ( like having dinner at your Favorite aunt Martha's house ) Blue plate specials and scrumptious pies filled out the well balanced menu offerings ! What a great and nostalgic trip down memory lane This place evokes ! Great food , great service , Amazing cooks and a chatty and fun wait staff and family pricing .... a true treat for a great family outing ! ///////-------- UPDATE ---------////// Sad to report that this iconic facility has closed owing to losing its lease , and The building has unfortunately been torn down and replaced with a new Panera Bread restaurant . This was one of the very few original enterprises that still existed From 1950s Mansfield , and it's untimely loss is mourned by A plethora of former customers and history buffs . The former operators of Derrenbergers have moved their business into another long time Mansfield landmark restaurant known as the Tiffin n Toffee House , located a few blocks north of the old Howard Johnson building , and are now serving old and new customers with the Same friendly wait staff and same menu items . A different decor of course , but same great tasting food and desserts ! ///////. -------- UPDATE --------- /////// The Derrenberger family has ceased restaurant operations entirely , and is now concentrating on It's catering business which had been managed jointly with its restaurant operation . The Tiffin n toffee space that they had leased has now been replaced by another long time area restaurateur The V & M. Family restaurant, as an extension of their vintage bellville Ohio eatery . Patrons will find the same family style meals and attendant desserts as they were used to enjoying At the former Derrenbergers restaurant ! Still a great place for an economical family outing !
