Their food is mostly good, EXCEPT for the coleslaw! The prices are rather high, but the atmosphere is good and so is the service.

This was our first time eating here. It's cute. Prompt and friendly service. My husband got a hotdog basket. I got a pickle dog basket. I was surprised that my pickle dog didn't contain a dog...just a fried pickle. I thought the pickle was a topping on the hot dog. It was good, but I was still surprised. Great fries. read more

I love this place. Been here three times in the last 3 years --I purposely stop here whenever passing through Ohio. The dogs are classic Coneys, the fries always hot, and mushroom caps are full of meaty flavor. Gotta down it all with their root beer. Ashland is lucky to have this place. read more

Great local iconic drive in. This place has been in the community for as long as I can remember. My wife even worked here in high school. The food is exactly what we expected. Coney dogs topped with onions. Yum. Also had the fried cauliflower with ranch dressing. Of course you can do A&W without a root beer float. Always stop here at least once over the summer. Such a great place to grab a snack or dessert! It's such good prices with great service and tasty food! There have hand made milkshakes, thin crispy fries, coney dogs, shrimp baskets, and lots more! It's a drive up stop so no need to get out! We are usually in and out in 20-30 minutes even when they are packed! They also have a drive thru but I have personally never used it. Watch as a server flits over, marks your windshield with a number, takes your initial orders (ALWAYS, ALWAYS order their root beer - it's phenomenal, and worth ordering a jug of to take home with you), brings you your grub on one of the trays that hooks onto your window, and lets you enjoy cheap, deep-fried goodness along the lines of French fries, onion rings, and the works. I moved away from Ashland several years ago and I still find myself craving this little gem. I love the fried cauliflower, fried mushrooms, mini corn dogs, French fries with vinegar and of course a cheese dog. Order a root beer float and a gallon of root beer to take home because it's the best root beer you'll ever have. This place is awesome. Pull your car up and wait for a server to come to your window. After ordering the server brings your tray o food and big ol mug of root beer and hangs it with hooks right onto your window. Mmmm good! read more

You never realize how utterly amazing a place is until you move away. A&W is that place, I CRAVE it! Each and every time I come to Ashland in the warm(ish) months my first stop is A&W for 2 conies minus onions plus cheddar cheese, an order of fries with salt and extra vinegar and a frosted mug of their amazing home made root beer. I've been known to order a jug of rootbeer too. Food always comes quick and hot delivered right to your car by friendly carhops (carhops? is that the right word oh well it works). They have a few picnic tables if you'd rather not stink up your car with the amazing smell of fried food, hot dogs & vinegar, though I think that's half the fun. I haven't ordered one single thing on the menu I did not love from the fried pickles to mini corndogs. The fact they have bags of Jone's potato chips also helps a lot too. read more

My husband and I moved to Ashland last winter. As Spring hit we noticed that the A&W drive-in was constantly busy. We decided this must be the hot spot in town for a reason. As huge root beer fans we couldn't wait to try it. We stopped in and bought a gallon along with coney dogs, fries and their onion petals (whatever they call them). The coney dogs were only okay. The sides were overly greasy and not special. The worst part was the root beer; it was terrible. We couldn't even manage to choke it down. We have tried to give it to any guests we have had over since we bought it and no one else can stand it either. We still have no idea what the big deal is with this place for the locals. First, the service here was terrible when I went with a friend. The staff refused to take two orders from our vehicle unless we pulled out of our parking spot and into the next parking spot (an exercise which seemed frustratingly arbitrary). Then, we waited quite a while for our food; half of our food came out about 15 minutes before the other half did, so half of the food was cold by the time we began to eat. The food left much to be desired. The hot dogs were small and the buns were small and seemed like cheap buns from the grocery store. Most of the fried food tasted the same. While the root beer float was delicious, I don't think I'll be going back for a meal any time soon. read more

Consistently delicious, if a bit pricey. The coneys are the best around these here parts but don't get suckered into ordering a Pickle Dog. You hear Pickle Dog and think- "That sounds amazing, a delectable fried pickle perched atop a tasty Coney" -but your thought would be ever so wrong. The Pickle Dog is simply a fried pickle on a bun. That being said, the fried pickles and fried cauliflower are borderline divine and exceptionally healthy to boot. I wanted to try this place since drive ins seem harder to come by unless you're in a small town like Ashland. This was my first time trying a true drive in where they come to your car and your tray hooks to the car window, so that's pretty cool. The menu pricings were pretty low ($2.80 and under). We ordered mini corndogs, fried mushrooms, french fries, fried pickles, and root beer float. It was a grease ball of a meal. Aside from the fried pickles, nothing really stood out. The fries were really skinny and not very crispy. The mushrooms were pretty flavorless. The corndogs were pretty average. It was a pretty greasy underwhelming meal, but the unique experience of eating at a drive in made it not too terrible. Would never return, though. read more

They have the best coney's but that's not all I highly recommend there chicken tenders too. They fry them in the same oil as the onion rings or something because when you bite into one you get a slight onion soup flavor that is just out of this world good on the fried chicken. read more
