Was in Keansburg today and wanted rolls for our lunch. So I stopped in to the Dixie Lee bakery…read more Always remembered their great products from my time in the burg. I ordered two hard rolls . They looked great. Got home and just now was going to make lunch with them. I have to say so disappointed. I asked for two "hard" rolls and boy did I get them. They were more like day old hard rolls . Instead of being crispy they were rotted it seemed. Completely fell apart, crumbled at touch . No crunch or crispiness and my fingers pushed thru the outside surfaces like going into cardboard. Crumbled and felt so stale under these circumstances had to be at the minimum day old left out dried up rolls. I had heard they went down a bit down the "old" Dixie Lee, but this was embarrassing. Sorry David Burke, I expected so much more from you... I learned my lesson today.. off to J&M where I should have gone to begin with. And it's a shame. 3 yrs ago I was a fan. Not any more...

It took 10 minutes to tie 2boxes., n the amount of sting of my box was laughable. The shelves behind the counter were almost empty. No pastries, no cakes, none of this n none of that. It was the Saturday the day before Easter. They should have been stocked up, I'm not sure what's the traffic in the bakery but it looked dead. It was definitely not up to par. The cookies tasted ok, would i go back? No.

The ice cream is good, but on the sweeter side and does have a sugary aftertaste. There are many flavors and toppings so the combinations are limitless! I have seen that they offer milkshakes, plus other items such as sundaes and cakes and ice cream sandwiches you can take home. The ambience is simple, it's a widow serving set up, and you can walk or grab a bench to enjoy your treat.

Apparently I was being a bit too chatty with her and the owner did not like that. She came out and asked if she can get things moving for us. I thought this was extremely rude due to the fact there was not a soul in sight except for us. Clearly she made it a point to her worker she did not like her being too friendly with customers. My point for writing this is being friendly and a little conversation goes a long way with me especially when you're running a business. You can have the best product in the world but when you seem to think your better and are rushing customers, I can't being bothered paying high prices to for ice cream to be treated like a second class citizen. Hopefully she will be nicer to her employees and learn to be a little bit more personable. Might sound petty to some but in this day and age people have ran out of manners. Normally I don't go out of my way to write a yelp review, however I want the owner to know she was rude and to be more considerate to your paying customers that are who keep you in business.

Solid, solid ice cream located RIGHT ON the highway…read more After hitting up the beach on a Saturday afternoon, the sweltering, hot temps called for us to go grab some sweeeet ol' ice cream and, fortunately, Polar Bear was only a few minutes from the beach that we were coming from. We arrived at around 3:30 PM and there was barely a soul here, although there were customers puling off the highway every once in a while to make a purchase. Polar Bear is a strictly outdoor ice cream establishment, meaning they have a few benches to their side, but there is no indoor seating area for customers. The ice cream shop has pictures of ice cream and multiple menus plastered everywhere on their windows, so it's a bit overwhelming when you walk up to them, but they basically serve hard ice cream, soft serve, sundaes, shakes and Italian ices. If you're lost and not sure of what to order, feel free to ask them what their best selling flavors are (LIKE THE DEER IN HEADLIGHTS THAT WE WERE). They told us that their most popular ice creams were the hard Black Raspberry and Banana soft serve, so we ordered each on a small cone to themselves. Verdict??? Personally, I liked the Banana soft serve more. It DEFINITELY was banana, based on the taste, and it was very refreshing. Honestly, I'm not a huge banana ice cream fan, but this was really good. As for the Black Raspberry, it was solid, but I felt that it needed to be jussssst a tad sweeter because I didn't think I could taste it all that well. I will say that the serving sizes of the ice creams were huuuuuge, so it was nice to feel like we got our money's worth on the small cones. Also, if you've got kids with you (like us), you can ask for a free cone to split some of the ice cream onto multiple cones, which we do alll of the time everywhere. Definitely a nice little ice cream shop and I love that it's located right off the highway on State Route 36, so if you're traveling in the area, you don't have to go far because all you have to do is literally pull over and park.

SO GOOD. perfect when you're leaving the beach or before you get to the beach. It's a chill spot, the front of the space is in direct sun, however behind the building is where the shade is and you'll see people eating their ice cream in the back. Service was great, honestly we thought we were going to pay a lot more and ended up just giving extra tip. Highly recommend this spot.
