The on-line appointment reservation system is easy to use. The appointment was confirmed with a confirmation email. We had the pleasure of having Dr Bush as our attending vet. All the supporting staff (including check-in and check-out) were friendly and helpful. Dr Bush was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and an excellent communicator. She took her time discussing our pet's condition, diagnosing the problem, and explaining the treatment options. Dr Bush also suggested a follow-up visit to check on the effectiveness of the ear medication. We would recommend Confederate Woods as an excellent place to bring a pet for treatment. read more

Yesterday was our first interaction with this office. I called here after our regular vet told us that they were too busy to see us until Monday. Our dog didn't have until Monday. We weren't customers here so they could've turned us away. They told us that we could come immediately. We arrived and they took our baby back on a stretcher. They put us in a private room away from other clients. We were crying and extremely upset. We explained that we were waiting for our son and daughter in law to arrive. The staff brought my husband and I back and explained what was going on. The dr was thorough and explained everything so that we could understand. She understood that i wanted her to explain everything to our son when he arrived. We never felt rushed, we never felt dismissed. We were shocked when we received the bill and it wasn't through the roof either! They treated our baby with love and respect. We later received a call from the cremation service in Hanover where they sent our girl for her final disposition. They were also kind and respectful. We had her ashes back by today!! Dr. Ruppert and the staff here saved Malcolm's (our cat) life. We are forever grateful to them.

This will be long but if you value your pet, please read. My cat developed a cough which at first I assumed to be hairballs. When this persisted a few days, I brought her in where she was was diagnosed with asthma. I was given prednisolone(pills) to give her which was near impossible to administer. This was April 11th. I brought her in 10 days later (April 21st) after she was barely eating and lost a lot of weight. Again it was asthma. She was given a steroid injection. Not sure why the injection wasn't given first visit but ok. No good. May 5th I brought her to Veterinary Referral Associates in Gaithersburg. She was RIDDLED with cancer. On the 21st of April it was already too late. Cancer was too far spread. You can see the cancer on the x-rays which confederate woods diagnosed as asthma. They said cancer at early onset looks like asthma. Well why wasn't I informed that it might be cancer? Why was I not told EVERY possibility that could be wrong with my cat?? At the very least I could have saved my cat 2 weeks of suffering, but on the 11th it might have been possible to save her. Confederate woods does surgery yet can't tell cancer from asthma, nor have the respect to tell me what illness my cat may or may not have so I can make a decision what to do. I had her euthanized at 11am 5/6. Then they didn't even have the courtesy to inform me that there was another euthanasia at 3pm. Imagine my surprise when I called loyal companion cremation at 2pm and they hadn't heard anything about a cat they had to pick up. I'm considering reviewing evidence to see if I have a case for malpractice. Maybe I can at least get reimbursed the entire vet bill as this whole thing reads as a deliberate way to make money at me and pet's expense. Now I have to try and adopt while not having a vet because I will NEVER go back there and a lot are not accepting new patients. read more

Stay clear of this Vet. They have shown me that their only concern is making a buck and not for the care of your pet. My cat was in need of immediate care for his anal gland issue, they could not give me an appointment until he has had an updated rabies shot, 4 days out. That's a little late! (Indoor cat only, no risk) They would not take him in, give him a shot (if they are so worried) and help him out with his immediate problem. I would have taken him back for the rabies shot in 4 days if necessary. It's time to check out veterinarians on the Franklin county side of town. read more

My family and I got a Lab pup at 8 weeks, our first pet since moving to the area, and we obviously needed a vet. We had no prejudice or preconceived thoughts about any vets because, as I said, we were new to the area. Pup developed an ear infection so we took him in for that in addition to his normal vaccinations. Long story short, he was seen by 2 different vets here and after 3 separate visits and several hundred dollars later, his ear infection was as bad as it ever was. They did a "laser treatment" each time at $30 a pop, prescribed steroids (which we later found out was entirely too high dosage for his age/weight) and sent us home. No antibiotics, no ointments to put in his ear, nothing. After the third visit and no improvement we contacted another vet. After getting the background information the RECEPTIONIST asked us what kind of antibiotics he was taking. Yes, the receptionist at a different vet office even knew he should've been taking antibiotics! So we made an appointment with the new vet and contacted CW to get our pups records. We were originally told they would email them to us right away but after not receiving them we called back about 5 hours later. This time we were told "it could take 3 to 5 business days" to get his records. Total BS because everything is computerized now. They just knew we were going elsewhere and were either just giving us a hard time or hoping the delay would make us change our mind. After much debate about their "policy", we finally got his records. Took him to the new vet and when we told them the entire back story the doctor was, in their own words, "furious" at the lack of care and medical attention our pup had gotten. The poor guy was suffering with an ear infection for 2 months while CW jerked us around and drained our wallet. Twelve hours after leaving the new vet our guy was visibly feeling better, happier and more playful than he had been in weeks under CW care. Needless to say, we found a new vet for all future concerns. And as a bonus, they are half to two-thirds less expensive! read more

What can I say? Dr Dale and Dr. Jody have been my dog's vets since our move from NY 18 years ago. They are incredibly caring and their entire staff treat my pet and myself with courtesy and kindness. They always greet me and my dog by name and are always genuinely happy to see him. Spike is a very nervous dog, but he never hesitates to go to any of the staff - he has a trust in them which makes me feel good. My last dog had many health issues and they were always there for me with an answer and a shoulder to cry on when we finally had to euthanize him. I would highly recommend Confederate Woods and will continue to bring Spike and any future pets I have the luck to adopt to them also. Thanks for everything! You are the best! read more

Time for a recent review on this place. My sister who takes her dog to this vet recommended me to this clinic. She told me that they were affordable compared to the vet clinic in Emmittsburg, MD. I just adopted a Pembroke Welsh Corgi who had severe anxiety and needed his shots up to date. I had things going on... had to reschedule my appointment three times. The receptionist was VERY accommodating and pleasant over the phone, especially when I explained that I was going to need medical records transferred to a vet in North Carolina. I was late by 5 minutes because being from out of state, I had no idea where the office was located. I had no issues in the waiting room and was warmly greeted despite of my late arrival. Two off-duty vets even came out to see my new puppy as we waited. It is very crucial to make sure my puppy felt welcomed since he's been so nervous and skittish being around new people for the past three days. The doctors we saw were extremely helpful. They were very, very gentle with my baby as they examined him. She did what was best for my puppy and suggested not to give vaccinations with his bowel issues from anxiety. She gave me tips on how to even train my puppy that would not deter our relationship, healthier treats (AND THEY DID NOT PUSH ME TO BUY THEIR PRODUCTS), and how to get him to eat. We agreed to come back in a few days after my puppy was feeling better because vaccines can upset bowel control. The medicine (two pills to ease anxiety and help with bowel movement) and appointment was less than $100. Emmittsburg would of charged me way more. These guys were great. If I'm ever in the area and need a vet, I can count on these people. read more

I was visiting my parents who recently moved to Gettysburg and had to take one of their senior dogs in for an an emergency exam while I was there. I haven't been to the office and can't account for specifics of care, but I'm leaving a review based on the level of customer service. My dad left his phone at the vet's office, and instead of asking him to make another trip out to the office, Dylan - a vet or vet tech in the office - offered to drive it all the way out to their house without hesitation. Dr. Becker was SO amazingly supportive and helped me walk through this decision to help my dog. Knowing that he was going to pass with his dignity was the most comforting. Although I could say something about the prices, I wont since I believe that like the doctor's office, veterinary care is by nature pricey. However, I find myself uncomfortable during every visit having to say no to every little thing/service they push on you while you're at the desk or in the waiting room. It makes me feel like I'm at a car dealership or a furniture store trying to upsell me. Especially in front of other pet owners, I get all self conscious and feel like I'm a bad or cheap owner. As for how they treat my pets, they could be doing much better there too. I pick my cat up from getting fixed, and he now mysteriously has an eye infection. He was also sent home with pain medication I did not want or ask for, but still had to pay for, and he doesn't even need. I wasn't even asked if I wanted to take it home or given the option to have a prescription open for him in case he needed it the next day, it was just "Here it is, that'll be $." My experiences with my dog haven't been much better. When he comes in, they have to put him on a hydraulic lift table to weigh him which completely freaks him out, but I understand is necessary. What is unnecessary is leaving him on this table for the duration of the appointment and exam. When they were done weighing him, I asked if he could get down now, and the tech told me "No, the doctor likes to do the exam on the table." Well frankly I don't care what the doctor wants and I've never met a vet before who want willing to sit on the floor with their big patients and do the exam. My dog was completely freaked out and struggled the whole time in the restraint on that table. A different visit he was given a non-essential vaccine I did not approve of, but had to pay for anyway. I also noticed while sitting in the waiting room the other day that other owners were being treated in a very similar manner. Their suggestions on what would make their pets feel more comfortable were being ignored or dismissed by the techs without so much as an explanation. If you've had a good experience with this vet, I'm happy that you have, but I will be looking for another clinic soon. If you will be staying or visiting for the first time, I strongly urge you to stand up for your opinion and rights. Demand an explanation instead of just a yes or no answer, and be your pet's advocate. And don't accept "It's policy" as an answer, that's not saying enough. Ask why it's policy and see if it makes sense to you. Don't feel pressured into anything you don't want to do or can't afford. You should never feel as though you are in a high pressure sales situation, this is a pet healthcare facility. And finally, if your appointment isn't going well and you don't feel like you're being listened to, let them know you'll be leaving. You should see a big change in attitude, or they should see you walking out the door. Your pet probably doesn't enjoy every second of their visit to the vet, but they should be made to feel as comfortable as reasonably possible. After all, they can't speak for themselves, so that's why they have us. read more

Our family has been using Confederate Woods Veterinary Hospital for more than 14 years and have zero complaints. During that time they have treated 7 of our dogs and done a terrific job. The people are top notch, courteous and we would take our four-legged family members to no other vets. I'm surprised that someone would complain about the "pricey care" and can only assume that they might not pay for their own personal care since a veterinarian is every bit as skilled as other doctors. had out dog in for blood work before surgery .was called with results .was told her liver level was slightly elevated . her number that has something to do with her liver was 2000 and normal is under 200.our surgeon had her in the very next day and did an ultrasound and now our dog is on medication. confederate woods did nothing .Guaranteed to never take her there again. read more
