The care and warmth I received before arriving, during my time there, and after by all the staff is why I give them high marks. They were kind thorough and professional last week. We brought our Pomeranian Annabelle in, her breathing was labored and she clearly didn't feel well. She was an elderly girl, a big part of our lives for 14years . we loved her so much. The doctor and staff were so kind and patient and explained the process.They kept her comfortable until we could come and sadly, say goodbye. She was too up there in age to chance aggressive care. The receptionists are professional and helpful which makes for smooth transactions! You pay for what you get these days and our animals care isn't cheap nor should it be when you can't compare the love our animals give us unconditionally to the all mighty dollar! We spent 5 hours in this hospital for them to tell me my 8 week old puppy needed surgery for $7-10k or i needed to schedule an appointment to amputate his leg. No advice, no other referrals, no other options. We brought him home after paying $1100 & got a second opinion from a real orthopedic surgeon (mountain view doesn't have one of those but was willing to put my dog under for surgery the next day to "fix" his leg... by who? i have no idea) and my dog is HEALED 99% of the way on its OWN. if you love your animals, please take them somewhere else for a second opinion!!! read more

I brought my cat, Oreo, to Mountain View Animal Hospital after he suddenly became lethargic, hiding, and refusing food/water. We suspected he may have ingested something toxic, and hoped to get quick, competent care to help him recover. Instead, we were charged nearly $2,500 for less than 24 hours of care, during which time they ran bloodwork, an ultrasound, and administered some fluids. Despite no definitive diagnosis, the vet told us Oreo was severely dehydrated and claimed this had caused "irreversible neurological damage." They pushed us hard toward euthanasia, even stating it would be the most "humane" choice. We were devastated and overwhelmed -- but thankfully, we trusted our instincts and said no. We were made to feel guilty for not going along with their recommendation. However, when we went to say goodbye, Oreo was standing up, alert, and looking around. The vet even commented, "Well, that's unexpected," yet still prepared to euthanize him. We took him home instead and gave him care ourselves -- fluids, warmth, food, and rest. Within just a few hours, Oreo was walking, meowing, eating, using the litter box, and playing. He is now nearly back to normal, aside from some mild lethargy. This place nearly killed our cat based on what now appears to be a completely incorrect assumption and misdiagnosis. They couldn't identify the actual issue, didn't test for toxins, and seemed more interested in upselling procedures than getting to the root of his condition. Please think twice before entrusting your pet's life to Mountain View Animal Hospital. I wouldn't wish this experience -- or that bill -- on anyone. read more

I will NEVER take a pet to this facility again. Like others have said...'I would leave zero stars if I could'. We took our little 13 year old dog to them with difficulty breathing. After being there over 3 hours, they kept our little guy 24 hours for treatment and charged us over $2200. They wanted to keep him another 24 hours for $4800. Mountain View said he had congestive heart failure. They gave him pills for what they said was an enlarged heart and fluid pills they said to get the fluid out of his lungs.. We brought him home on Friday night. He did not improve at all. This is Monday. We took him to a cardiologist today. Completely wrong diagnosis and medications. He does NOT have CHF. He does not have an enlarged heart. He has bronchitis and pneumonia. If we had continued with their care plan he would've died. Now we have a correct diagnosis and medications so that we can have him with us awhile longer. And Im sure there are no refunds coming from Mountain View for all of this even though we had to pay upfront before his treatment there. Stay as far away from this place as you can get. Not only this....my daughter in law had their dog there 2 weeks ago. Same thing. $1300 bill with Wrong diagnosis and meds. Their dog would've died if she wouldve continued their treatment plan. Her dog was so bad after that, we took her to a specialist, wheeled in on a stretcher. She couldn't get up at all by then. Now she has a correct diagnosis and meds and she is running around the yard 2 weeks later after seeing a different doctor. Love your pet enough to go somewhere else. read more

When you have a sick pet you really are in a quandary when your local vet doesn't do emergencies. The first time we were here we were pretty satisfied but the second time; a few days ago we were not. I understand when you have other cases come in that are considered more urgent than yours, but how would they know that when you only talk to a technician and then wait for two hours to see the actual vet? They do provide up front price quotes. They took our little guy back for just "a few minutes " for X-rays. After 25 minutes of him not coming back, I went to the front desk and asked where he was. The technician then came to the room and said oh we had an emergency and he is just chilling in the back until the Vet can come out and talk to you about the x-rays. Are you kidding me?!? How long was that going to be? I told her to bring him out we preferred to have him with us, which she did. Thru the whole process the vet seemed unsure about what to do and more or less left it up to us what all tests we wanted to have done based on the costs. Thankfully our boy is better but will try a different facility in the future- which I hope we never have to. read more

I just moved to Hagerstown the day my cat was in pain with the slightest touch near his tailbone. Mountain View accepted me right away with maybe half hour wait time. We are from Alabama but we're visiting family for the weekend in PA. While there, our 12 week old PooShih had injured her leg and we had at least a 10 hour drive ahead of us. She was clearly in pain b/c she would wail if her leg was moved too quickly. We were referred to this location by a vet in PA that "wasn't taking new patients". We were impressed with how nice and clean the location was but that is about as far as it went. An individual came up front to assess our 2.2 pound Minnie. She commented on the angle of her leg and said she was going to get us into a room so that we could get her some pain medication. When we were walked back to an exam room we were informed that they function like a true ER; if a more emergent illness/injury arrived they would take that first. Fair enough. After waiting an hour without any further interaction I sought out someone to get an ETA. It wasn't hard to find someone, they had an over abundance of staff walking around and at the front desk area. She responded that it could take 3-5 hours to be seen and when she saw the shock on our faces she asked, "didn't you receive a piece of paper that details what to expect?" Well, obviously we did not or we would not have stayed. Again, we had a 10 hour drive ahead of us. We left. I called our vet in AL on the way home and they were able to get her in 1st thing in the morning. She had a fractured tibia. This ER that dedicates itself to saving animals let our Minnie suffer in a car ride for 10 hours in pain. Needless to say, I do not recommend the place. read more

I brought my senior dog here for care twice over the course of two days last weekend and reading some of these reviews while waiting gave me anxiety. On both trips, the staff and the vets were very professional and attentive. My pup ended up staying overnight. Because the facility was so new and clean, I was less worried to leave her. The wait time was about three hours on the first trip, but that included waiting for lab results and an x-ray. I've been to human ER's and waited this long too, so it was expected. The overall cost was expensive, but everything was explained thoroughly and professionally and I had the opportunity to ask questions and think about it before agreeing to the price. In my experience, it's no more shocking than going to the dentist for a cleaning and them telling you two cavities and a crown. In other words, I expected a high tab and I think they were fair in the big picture. I'm grateful for this experience, as other 24 hour vets were full and my precious Daisy needed immediate care. Today was one of the worst days of my life. I took my Oliver in to the clinic this morning as he was having trouble breathing. Things went south fast, and I ended up having to put him down. He was terminal, and just a baby. The staff were SO kind to both of us. They gave me options and time to make the best decision for my baby. They let me hold him while he passed away, and were accommodating and kind with the entire process, despite my bawling like a crazy person. The facility is absolutely beautiful, and peaceful, and clean. I want to thank the staff for their compassion. My puppy, Vera, not quite a year old, rushed to MVAE in Hagerstown the morning of January 3rd 2021. Earliest sign of tummy problems the day before at bedtime. I called MVAE at 7:45 Sunday morning and dropped her with the Vet tech at 8:49 am. Strong signs of an intestinal blockage which I had seen before, twice, years earlier. The doctor on duty called me twice at 9:17 am and 9:45 am waffling on the seriousness and wanted to do some tests. I missed the 1st call she left a message. $1300 was needed to get started. Call at 11:45 with a plan. There was nothing conclusive. Mild dehydration and nothing on x ray. She had thrown up once. They wanted to watch her and repeat her tests in 12 hours. All vitals were fine with a mild heart murmur, which we knew about. That evening they repeated the tests. No change but x ray showed a blockage in the very end of her intestine. Surgery planned for later that night. That was 7:55 pm. They said that Dr Wilson was an expert at this surgery. $1700 was needed to proceed. Dr Wilson called at 12:38 am...I missed the call I discovered later she had left a message. I called her as soon as I saw the number on my phone. She said that surgery went well, Vera was breathing on her own, was awake and doing well. They'd watch her overnite and expected full recovery. Dr Wilson called again at 6:28 am. Vera was doing well and they would feed her at about 11: am. I asked a couple of questions and she told me that the hospital staff had waited for her overnite shift to have Vera's surgery. She also gave me at home post surgery instructions. My phone rang at 9:49 am. Vera was found dead in her crate. Dr Graves called and said that he had found her. He also said at that time that the surgery had been postponed because the hospital was very busy with other patients and THAT VERA WAS VERY, VERY SICK SEVERELY DEHYDRATED WITH A MAJOR LUNG ASPIRATION. SHOCK!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to MVAE at 12:46 pm on Monday to pick up her body to take her home to be buried. They were allowing me into a room, surprise because of covid 19. I kept saying "I just want my puppy"....delay delay delay I went into the lobby and they told me there was a balance of $380....I blew a cork....crying and screaming that they had killed my puppy...quite a scene in the lobby and parking lot....I finally got her and cried all the way home. I have tried to get over this and move on. Apologized and agreed to pay the balance asap. Thinking that this could create some kind of closure for me because I was suffering so much... UNTIL !!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was checking my messages on my phone which I seldom do. There it was 3 different versions of what happened over that 24 hours. The messages are saved that totally contradict Dr Graves account. The only peace I will get is by warning the public about these people. Money is the ONLY thing that matters to them not the sweet little pups like my Vera. Her whole life gone because of their lack of post operative care. She died alone in a crate scared and alone. This place didn't treat my cat. The put him on a catheter to keep his kidneys functioning but only let him lay with it.. they never flushed a poor guy to get the rest out... &3500 for one night of suffering for him to come home and block right back up. I took him to my and he flushed him two time and there was no more crystals, but because they just let him lay with the catheter and not flush him... his kidneys were damaged beyond repair. MLS died that nights after my vet flushed him which should have happened every hour at hospital... they killed my cat... and I have to pay them 3500$ to kill him.. If you love your animal DO NOT TAKE IT THE MOUNTAIN VIEW. I want my money back and in process of contacting a lawyer. Took my dog in with a closed pyometra because the Buckeystown vet scheduled an appointment 3 weeks later and my dog would have been dead before then. I was charged $4000 for a botched procedure and ended up taking the very sick dog back 3 days later when I was charged another $2000 for a follow up operation. Let me start by saying two things to readers and reviewers. 1) Emergency care is very expensive, wherever you go. 2) If you don't have a nest egg for emergencies, you should apply for Care Credit IN ADVANCE, not when your animal's life is threatened. Pet insurance is also an option, but most plans only reimburse you after you have paid the bill. My cat went to her regular vet office on Thursday, but the vet she normally sees and who knows her history was out sick. Suki had been vomiting, then not eating, and drinking excessively. She has had the same issue before. The vet who saw her who went through the same old routine: Cerenia injection and an appetite stimulant to rub into her ear flaps. I told her that this hadn't helped in the past, but her answer was, "Let's wait and see how she does." Thankfully, she did a blood test that put to rest my concerns that her early stage kidney disease was getting worse. When we got home, she took a tiny amount of food but then stopped eating and drinking altogether. I called and was told that they had no appointments but one of the vets would call me before they closed. Same thing the second time I called. Third time they told me all the vets had gone home a little early and I should just take her to Emergency if I thought she was getting worse. So I checked Mountain View's website, and it said the current wait for an appointment was 8-12 hours! I called, someone took down all my information, and I was told to call every hour and hopefully they would have an opening. He also said that with a cat, this situation was an emergency and offered to give me other numbers, but the other ERs were twice as far away, and I have heard bad things about one of them. The third time I called, they said to bring her in. Staff took initial info at the desk and got us into an exam room right away. A tech came in to assess her and said the vet would be in shortly. I was told up front that the initial fee would be $155 just to check her out. We probably waited about 30 minutes for the vet to come in. She explained the tests she wanted to do and gave me a rough estimate. They took her back and then I did wait quite a while, but I figured they were running test results. She then recommended hospitalizing her, and like someone mentioned above, I was give a low and a high estimate. I knew it was going to be expensive but still suffered sticker shock. Yes, like others said, they want you to pay the low figure (in this case over $1700) before you leave, but they explained everything that was included. In all, I was there for about three hours. I left at about 4:30 p.m., and the next morning before 7:00, the vet called to tell me that my cat was looking good, was eating everything they gave her, and would be able to come home. She explained everything that had been done and what the next steps would be if she got worse. As for the bill, they refunded over $300 to my credit card for services that they did not perform. I felt that all of the staff was gentle with my cat, compassionate and courteous with me, and willing to explain everything and answer any questions. I would recommend Mountain View to anyone in need of emergency vet care. Just be prepared for the cost. read more

UTI fiasco: A feline UTI issue by all definition- regular vet was closed so I took him here. They said they ran tests- a sterile urine sample, Dr. told me there was bacteria in his urine. This should indicate to ANY competent Dr. to treat for a UTI. (these can be VERY dangerous to the health of your cat if not treated immediately). After $265.00, cat opioids and a urethra relaxer- NOTHING TO TREAT A UTI - I was sent home. I COULD HV WAITED A DAY FOR ONE PAYMENT INSTEAD OF over $$$$FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS LATER (2 Vet visits/bills)- having to go to another vet, same tests, no BULLSHIT analysis- and correct MEDICATION. I followed my gut and wound up getting a second opinion- CAT UTI's Are to be assessed properly and treated immediately. MV YOU SUCK!!! I never thought I would be writing this but if it helps save another animals life it is worth it. My 3yr old French bulldog Henry was administered into the Mountain View Animal Emergency vet in Hagerstown MD with HGE which was diagnosed At his normal vet earlier that day. They referred me To their as he would have 24hr care. I dropped him off Friday 6/21 around noon where they started him on IV fluids and antibiotics. I visited him later that evening around 8 where he seemed to be doing better but was still getting sick. Saturday 6/22 around 8am I get a call that he is doing OK, they fed him but he immediately threw it back up. So they were going to continue fluids and antibiotics. Saturday 6/22 around 3pm receive another call that he is still throwing up and they need to insert a tube into his stomach to help remove the fluid. I questioned the sedation and the surgery and was told it was twilight and the surgery was routine and nothing to worry about. Saturday 6/22 around 4:40 on my way to visit Henry, I received a call that they inserted the tub incorrectly, and ultimately Henry passed. Anyone who knows me knows that Henry was my world, i don't know where I go from here. Please be careful who you let care after your animals and love them every second you get as you don't know when the last time you'll see them Will be. Share if you would like. read more

This place is a joke. I've been coming here for years with different animal emergencies and everything has gone down hill. I was just here last August when my bulldog mix was attacked & mauled by another dog. Full cost, including exam fee & stitches, was around $360. Wait time was reasonable & staff was efficient and professional. I came in again today because one of my other dogs fell in a hole and messed up their leg. Total cost was almost $800 for X-rays, exam fee, & pain meds. YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I'm still paying off the $3000 care credit from my Boston Terrier eating a poisonous mushroom and the finance person had the audacity to "suggest" that I open up another line of credit or ask for a credit increase. Mam, you have lost your mind! Not to mention a wait time of over 2.5 hours when the parking lot & waiting room were EMPTY. I could here the staff talking, joking, and laughing while we just sat. I understand an emergency vet will be at least double your personal vet but quadruple the cost is insane to me. The only good thing I can say is they were willing to drop the price once I refused administration of Methadone & Oxycodone as well as reducing down to one X-ray. I did receive a scolding from the vet for not agreeing to multiple images or full sedation. Take home pain meds will cost me almost $200. Absolute highway robbery. This used to be my go to place for emergency vet care but I can confidently say I will never be back. read more

I'd give zero stars if I could. Dr. Swick has no compassion nor do most of the staff. Greeted and taken back immediately. 2 hours passed, no update. I went to desk and was told Dr. Graves was making rounds and would be in shortly, which never happened. 4 hours later, a staff member returned to say they were changing shifts and it would be a while longer. When I questioned why our dog wasn't evaluated yet, she was rude and condescending. She them went to the front office and complained to the staff about me asking questions. I overheard her entire conversation. Completely unprofessional. Dr. Swick finally came and after 5 hours, our dog was finally going to be evaluated. Blood work and x-rays took another 4 hours with little communication from staff unless it was regarding money. Nothing significant was found so they wanted to keep for observation. Um, no thank you. He's been here for 8 hours already, the first 5 he wasn't even examined. If this is how they treat sick animals and their humans, they should consider different career paths. Charged for IV and the dogs leg wasn't even shaved. Then called at 1 AM to say they misdiagnosed but weren't sure. Thankfully our regular vet was able to get him in. This place needs some education on being professional and compassionate. Go somewhere else! read more

Ok because of an emergency this place is going to be reviewed. One of our dogs couldn't walk, naturally we wanted him seen to ASAP. Yes we waited close to two hours to be seen. Which would be a one star review in every review, but the vet obviously had a serious case of the flu. It become more obviously so as she me she had the flu. Major Kudos here! The fact that my dog was seemingly faking his injury does don't go against them. He was doing. Laps of the place when we checked out, in fact he hasn't shown any inability to walk since... Price was reasonable. If I knew the evil Shaun was gone ths might be a four star review. But that guy was an ass! Till I know a guy who threatens people has gone the current rating stands. read more

I've been to this animal hospital twice so far and have had great experiences each time! I really truly love this place. The staff is incredibly friendly and very open to questions if you have any concerns about animal care. I've brought in my kitty Harley and now, our new kitten that we adopted from the street and they were very helpful in checking the kitten for me. I've never had to wait an extraordinary amount of time, and they're very good at giving you a heads up on the current traffic of customers in the clinic. I trust them with my cats for care and plan to use them as my primary care place if I remain in Hagerstown next year as well. I highly recommend them for animal care. read more

they're an "urgent care" vet that's nice, not really an animal ER like they claim. they were clean openly friendly appropriately staffed & initially responsive. a UTI in a male cat is life threatening if left untreated for too long. not to mention how would you feel if you had a UTI & we're stuck with no bathroom to use or water to drink? this ain't no "human ER..." i don't mind the "level 4" triage. (meaning he was bottom priority) & i certainly do not mind waiting. i had to deal with the medical field/ERs/urgent cares/insurance/private practices/specialty departments before. i was a medical emergency line operator for a while. the problem i have is their "wait policy" ...they assume they know what they're doing with absolutely zero medical monitoring. claiming you operate like an ER but do nothing to monitor the patients after you initially triage them - leaving them in a room with a tiny window for hours seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen. you can bring a patient in for a simple migraine & they can decline quickly after that if left completely unmonitored. i was the first there & the last to leave. all the other animals were a level 3 above him. even if they were above him - wait times should be monitored as well as the vitals of all triaged patients. even the Veterans Affairs ER doesn't dilly dally like this & they tend to be way worse. they have plenty of staff to monitor animals like they monitor patients in the ER after a vital check & triage. this should have been a given. especially with their "we operate like a human ER," policy. when the tech came back in i notified her of this. i tried to be as nice & calm as i could i just couldn't look her in the eye cuz i don't like making people uncomfortable. i have no vet training aside from being a foster & i can't up & grab their medical equipment to do another triage on my own animal, im not technically qualified for that, it is not my personal equipment at home, nor am i getting paid to do so - they are. on the surface this place seemed like a good idea. but leaving your triaged patients in a room unchecked for hours then claiming "well he was fine when we initially triaged him," is just insanity. TIME KEEPS TRUCKING & symptoms worsen despite your pitiful $170 triage you did hours earlier... this is an urgent care... not a "human-like ER." im glad i didn't bring my poor cat in for anything worse than a UTI... & im glad it didn't get seriously bad. some of these reviews are seriously disheartening.. especially the stroke one. ADVICE///// try to go to a regular vet if at all possible. absolutely no vets had any appointments the day i came... & if you bring an animal here that is considered their tier 4 triage - (that info is listed in the patient waiting list scan picture - scan the code to pull up the site) expect to wait half the day & ASK THEM TO HAVE YOUR ANIMAL MONITORED IN THE BACK KENNELS FOR ANY SIGNS OF HEALTH DECLINE... read more

Mountain view has taken care of 2 of my cats on a few different emergency occasions & they are always very friendly and helpful. One of my cats named Biggie had to be put down last year because of his health issues & the vets & nurses were so empathetic & friendly they really were angels. They gave me as much time as I needed with him & helped console me and were overall so amazing. I really appreciate them and would not hesitate to come back if any of my other pets had an emergency. Lied to three times in one phone call about getting an appointment, told me to call in at 9 (I called in at 8), told me once I did that no emergency fee would be intact. Once I called in at 8 am the Jennifer the very rude loud obnoxious receptionist answered the phone talking over me and told me in the matter of the 15 mins they booked all appointments... They let my friends dog lay in the back for 4 hours after he had a stroke and when they finally let them see him he was crying because he had to go to the bathroom...the poor thing was holding himself the whole time.... sad HORRIBLE PLACE TO TAKE YOUR PET!!!! read more
