I just moved to Hagerstown the day my cat was in pain with the slightest touch near his tailbone. Mountain View accepted me right away with maybe half hour wait time. After X-rays, checkup and pain medication, my cat just needed some time to not move and relax. Everyone there was so caring and great, I can't express that enough. I only wish they did regular checkups but I received some great recommendations for that. Thank you for seeing me and Mittens.

We are from Alabama but we're visiting family for the weekend in PA. While there, our 12 week old PooShih had injured her leg and we had at least a 10 hour drive ahead of us. She was clearly in pain b/c she would wail if her leg was moved too quickly. We were referred to this location by a vet in PA that "wasn't taking new patients". We were impressed with how nice and clean the location was but that is about as far as it went. An individual came up front to assess our 2.2 pound Minnie. She commented on the angle of her leg and said she was going to get us into a room so that we could get her some pain medication. When we were walked back to an exam room we were informed that they function like a true ER; if a more emergent illness/injury arrived they would take that first. Fair enough. After waiting an hour without any further interaction I sought out someone to get an ETA. It wasn't hard to find someone, they had an over abundance of staff walking around and at the front desk area. She responded that it could take 3-5 hours to be seen and when she saw the shock on our faces she asked, "didn't you receive a piece of paper that details what to expect?" Well, obviously we did not or we would not have stayed. Again, we had a 10 hour drive ahead of us. We left. I called our vet in AL on the way home and they were able to get her in 1st thing in the morning. She had a fractured tibia. This ER that dedicates itself to saving animals let our Minnie suffer in a car ride for 10 hours in pain. Needless to say, I do not recommend the place.

My sweet baby was sick and waited patiently to be seen.

I brought my senior dog here for care twice over the course of two days last weekend and reading some of these reviews while waiting gave me anxiety. On both trips, the staff and the vets were very professional and attentive. My pup ended up staying overnight. Because the facility was so new and clean, I was less worried to leave her. The wait time was about three hours on the first trip, but that included waiting for lab results and an x-ray. I've been to human ER's and waited this long too, so it was expected. The overall cost was expensive, but everything was explained thoroughly and professionally and I had the opportunity to ask questions and think about it before agreeing to the price. In my experience, it's no more shocking than going to the dentist for a cleaning and them telling you two cavities and a crown. In other words, I expected a high tab and I think they were fair in the big picture. I'm grateful for this experience, as other 24 hour vets were full and my precious Daisy needed immediate care. Thank you to the vets and staff who helped us.

Today was one of the worst days of my life. I took my Oliver in to the clinic this morning as he was having trouble breathing. Things went south fast, and I ended up having to put him down. He was terminal, and just a baby. The staff were SO kind to both of us. They gave me options and time to make the best decision for my baby. They let me hold him while he passed away, and were accommodating and kind with the entire process, despite my bawling like a crazy person. The facility is absolutely beautiful, and peaceful, and clean. I want to thank the staff for their compassion. I would recommend this facility to anyone that needs emergency help for their furry best friend.

Within a few minutes, the nurse spoke to me and the vet very shortly after that. The part I appreciated most was that he didn't want to just run a ton of tests of everything to run up our bill, and even referred us to internal medicine specialist at another ER who would better serve the needs of our pup to get down to the issue. This place is top notch. I wish Dr. Delaplane was at a general vet office so we could see him regularly as our normal vet! VEG-ER is the best…read more Eariler this week one evening, we had to take our Siamese boy, Pablo, to VEG-ER not long before midnight. You know you've heard that if your indoor-outdoor cat who always comes home one day doesn't come home one day, something has happened. Well, it's true. Usually, Pablo (a.k.a. Bunky) comes back within minutes after being let out, but this day was different. We looked for him and looked for him, but came up empty-handed. Pablo has an AirTag and, curiously, it showed he was on our property. Finally, he appeared around 10:00pm at the back door. We were relieved, but noticed he had wounds on his hind legs. Because of our excellent experience we had last year with VEG-ER, we brought Pablo here. Pablo received top-shelf compassionate treatment from the VEG-ER staff, each of whom has a heart of gold. I really admire, respect and appreciate people that devote their lives to the care of pets. They're a blessing. We were told Pablo did not experience an animal attack, but maybe got stuck on a fence, and slipped. Pablo is home recovering now, getting stronger by the day. We basically live in the woods, and realize fully now that it is just too dangerous here to let him outside unsupervised anymore..

We've been to many pet ERs/urgent cares in the 8 years we've lived in NoVa and this the only hospital where we spoke to a doctor within a few minutes of walking in the door. They were thorough, took time to explain our treatment/testing options and answer questions, and made us feel like Norman's care mattered even when more severe emergency cases came in. At VEG, you can see everything, stay with your pet, watch their treatment, and staff are readily available to talk to or answer questions. That alone eased so much anxiety. Kenzie, one of the nurses that was assigned to Norman, was so kind. It was clear that everyone in the room cared about making these animals feel comfortable. More than one nurse came over to introduce themselves when we were preparing to leave Norman overnight. They offered us a room where we could stay with him if we wanted, and even asked what he liked to watch on TV to create a comfortable environment for him after we let them know he suffers from separation anxiety. The discharge and follow-up notes were also incredibly detailed, which made following up with our primary vet so much easier. No one ever wants to bring their animal to an ER, but this is now the only place we will go when we need urgent medical care. A HUGE thank you to everyone at VEG Alexandria for taking such good care of our dog!

Service:5 Stars Pricing: 2 Stars…read more This past weekend, I had a very positive experience at VEG that was overshadowed by what appears to have been sheer greed. We brought our goldendoodle to VEG because he cut his paw; the laceration split one of the digits on his paw, with superficial flesh exposure. It wasn't the worst wound in the world, but bleeding persisted and it was deep enough that we needed to determine whether stitches may be needed. Dr. Forte and the technicians (I'm so sorry I did not get their names) were just amazing. And Sarah, who did our intake, was uncommonly kind and attentive. I had absolutely zero complaints with the staff. My sole complaint was with the pricing of a pain medication. I understand that emergency treatment is not inexpensive; it's just the nature of the beast. Still, when the Dr. said the total came to $400 for the exam, cleansing/bandaging of the wound and medication, I was a bit surprised so asked for a rough breakdown. The culprit, in my view, was a common, canine, pain medication, with which I was familiar. The cost was $93 for 14 pills. I asked the doctor if we could purchase it elsewhere and she said we could. When I filled the prescription at a grocery store pharmacy, I was shocked and then angered by what I learned. The prescription, for which VEG was charging $93, was $9.99 at my local Giant pharmacy. I could not believe (and still do not) a reasonable justification would exist for such an excessive medication markup. Surely, I thought, this chain hospital has access to preferred/wholesale pricing. Parasitic was the word that came to mind. I saw a business exploiting people already experiencing stress and vulnerability as the result of a beloved pet's sickness or injury. Although I was very pleased with the service we received, I am just very disappointed and troubled by this issue, to say the least. Certainly, this is not unheard of in the society in which we live. But VEG ownership/management, I feel you do a great disservice to the excellent employees who, clearly, work so hard to represent you in the best and highest light. With respect, do better...
