Alisha's Hypnobirthing course took all the fear and nervousness out of the picture and changed my whole mindset going into labor. I had an extremely long labor and my husband and I were so lucky to have Alisha in the room with us for the entire thing. She was such a calming presence throughout. In the end I needed to get an episiotomy and Alisha put me into hypnosis during the proceedure and I barely even felt it. I couldn't believe it. After it was over, the Dr. who was a neo-natal surgeon (and wasn't too sure about hypnobirthing) was so impressed, he took Alisha aside in the room and said he'd never had a patient so calm while he was suturing them. Now I am excited to share, from a personal viewpoint, my experience of Alisha's hypnosis and care. After nearly a decade of "trying to conceive," I am about to give birth to twins, literally any day now, and Alisha has been a HUGE part of our success in getting to this point! Of course, there are so many things that go into the timing of a healthy conception and pregnancy. I did SO much to prepare for when that right timing would open up for me, at the age of 47. Our journey involved heartbreak, but also hope, which Alisha always helped us keep alive by always believing in my husband's and my dream of becoming parents. After years of acupuncture and the most wonderful building of my body through functional medicine (and many many prayers and ceremonies and intention setting and holistic treatments) , we were ready for our first IVF transfer with adopted embryos (as our own attempts of natural conception, IUI, egg retrieval and embryo creation resulted in no pregnancy and no viable embryos). Once we were ready for this next step of adopting embryos and doing an embryo transfer (also after doing a necessary scar tissue removal surgery), I knew I needed to call in Alisha to help prepare me mentally and emotionally to be in the most receptive space possible for this next huge step! Alisha and I had been in contact for months before I finally was able to be a part of one of her cohorts. As a midwife going through pregnancy for the first time, I was very happy to have another tool in my belt to help me relax through labor prep and visualization! Every class was wonderfully laid out and so relaxing and we really did learn so much. Me and my husband decided to take Alisha's class because my doctor was recommending I get a C-section because they predict I'll have a big baby. After some research we decided we still wanted to try natural. A friend of my husband's had given us a CD of Alisha's course but with no CD play available lol my husband contacted her directly. From the start she was so helpful and informative. We had a discussion on the phone about my situation and she was so supportive and insightful. As are due date was near by and her course just ended, we decided to do a private session crash course with her. We did it in two weekends. I enjoyed the course a lot and learned so much information. Alisha went above and beyond with us by connecting us with other people to make my birthing experience as empowering as possible. I feel prepared for whatever journey my birthing journey decides to be, thanks to Alisha! The day of my birth I went in with the mindset of following my birth plan as much as possible and to make it as natural as possible. All was going well and I did the breathing exercises as well as listen to the affirmations and rainbow relaxation. The staff at the hospital was great and followed my plan as much as possible as well. I was able to open up to 7 cm all on my own in a span of 10 hours. Unfortunately my water didn't fully break so I requested for it to be broken. Once that happened the surges increased but I was still not dilating. As much as I tried to relax my body was tired and requested an epidural, after a couple hours my baby arrived, natural delivery. Baby came in at 8 pounds and 1 oz. What I loved about this course is that as much as the purpose is to go all natural, they take into account medical intervention when needed. Thank you Alisha!! Alisha was recommended to us by our midwife. My husband and I had practiced Hypnobirthing during the birth of our first child. I loved having these breathing exercises and meditations to focus inwards. I found that it helped me have the intuitive birth I had wanted. One thing I remember for sure, I never pushed. Instead, as the surges shifted into the final stage of labor, I could feel my body moving my daughter out as an automatic reflex that I had no control over and needed no control over. In this second pregnancy, the time has moved so much more quickly and I worried I wasn't going to get around to revisiting the methods of Hypnobirthing and certainly not rereading the book before my birth. I have a five-year-old, am working, etc., and so on. But my midwife recommended I take a refresher course with Alisha, and I leaped at the opportunity. I contacted her, and within minutes we had ourselves set up for a refresher course the next day, which at 36 weeks was immensely appreciated. Not only that, but she could accommodate a weekend meet-up, which allowed my husband to join. We've struggled to sync our schedules this pregnancy. As someone who has labored before and remembers that even his pheromones were a comfort in the first birth, I was worried that we hadn't given ourselves sufficient space to connect before the birth of our second child. We came out of the experience feeling much more prepared and, more importantly, more connected to one another. One thing I love about Hypnobirthing is that it gives your partner a clear role and opportunity to be present in your birth experience. My husband is not naturally inclined to work intuitively; in most cases, I categorize him as a pragmatic skeptic. But, these exercises give him something tangible to practice before and during the birth. It gives him a clear purpose in the space and helps provide the confidence I need for him to have as my pillar in this process. It's less time than we had placed in our first birth. Still, Alisha's warm and soothing presence, generous spirit, flexibility, enthusiasm for one of the most critical moments in our lives, and limitless wisdom on birth and labor made it so easy to glide right back into Hypnobirthing. This second pregnancy has been shrouded in cerebral concerns because I'm older, and my body was doing things it didn't the first time. Every pregnancy is different. Alisha is incredible. I am about a month overdue in posting this review but our little one arrived more than 2 weeks early, and we were playing a little catch up. If it were not for Alicia, we would not have had the incredible birthing experience we did. We also heard about hypnobirthing and Alisha's class a bit late. We did not have time to wait until her next group session took place but she welcomed us into a truncated private class in her Zen like home. Alisha empowered us to take control of our birthing process and allowed us to welcome our little girl into the world on our terms. My wife's water broke at 1.30 am. We left for the hospital at 4 am, reached the hospital at 4.30 am, transitioned to our birthing suite at 5.30 am, and our little one arrived at 7.12 am. My wife was able to avoid all drugs and was the first to receive my daughter with her own two hands. The doctors, in a teaching hospital nonetheless, were barely involved in the process and were simply there for emergency situations. The midwives at our hospital were also familiar with hypnobirthing philosophies and allowed my wife to set the tone, mood, and pace for our birthing experience. Where do I start? Well, I guess I can by warning reader, I am going to be blunt. Giving birth was my biggest fear. Being in pain for countess hours, possibly having C-section, the thought of tearing or pooping on myself while pushing...the list goes on. I considered taking NO birthing classes because how is it possible for anyone to prepare a woman for the unknown and maybe the less I knew, the less I would fear. The one thing I knew is that I was NOT going to take Lamaze- seemed like a contradiction...breathe stressfully when your body is already going through a lot??! That seemed awful. I heard a lot about hypo birthing and since I saw Alisha in the past for hypnotherapy, I figure I'd have nothing to lose. The classes were amazing. Empowering. Educational. Full of ammunition for a woman to have the birth she wants and the tools to articulate what is needed in a birth world where women are on the clock of their doctor. Everything is rushed and when your in labor, you can feel at everyone else's mercy and it's easy to give in to what's told is "best" for you and your baby. The educational part of the class teaches YOU what's best for your baby and all of the potential pressures you may encounter while in labor and the class prepares you how to handle the pressures. I had the most amazing birth! I labored at home for 14 hours, in bed, alone because that's what I wanted. My husband was in the room next door and I did not want my doula - I wanted to be alone. Once my contractions (or as you will learn are called "surges" in hypnobirthing) became more frequent, I decided to go to my doctor who checked me and told me I was at 6.5 cm dilated. I chose to go to Cedars an hour later and learned I was at 7cm. My birth plan was extremely flexible. The only thing I planned was to labor as long as possible at home and without meds and that I wanted to "catch" my own baby and have immediate skin to skin contact. Things changed due to a potential meconium scare. I had a team of pediatricians in the room waiting to take my baby who eventually I forgot were there. Initially I wanted to cry but remembered I was in control and some things cannot be controlled and the healthiest way to cope was to "let it go". My doctor assured me not to worry and maybe it wasn't meconium. As planned...lights were dim, everyone maintained soft voices and I had peaceful music playing. I used my breathing tools provided during the classes and only pushed for 7 minutes and my baby was born in the most amazing environment!! No meconium, I got to catch my own baby and have skin to skin. I hired a doula and never needed her. At the last minute I decided to have her video the birth. It took many months before I watched it but I was amazed at what I did on my own with the tools Alisha gave me during her class. I had a lot of fear around labor and had heard great things about Alisha and her hypnobirthing classes. We signed up for her 5-week course, which was incredibly informative and empowering. Alisha is extremely kind and gentle and truly listens. She provided digital tracks to various meditations/hypnoses that came in very useful during labor. I was able to have an extremely fast labor and delivery (one hour of surges/contractions and 10 minutes of breathing/pushing) with no epidural or pain meds and I attribute a lot of that to the breathing techniques we learned as well as the digital meditations she provided. I've known Alisha for a long time. We did our A.L.A.C.E Doula training together many years ago. I ended up taking her Hypnobrithing class and it was amazing. She had so many useful techniques that helps you during birthing. I am proud to say that I went through labor with breathing techniques and calmness all the way until I actually was about to push my baby out. Unfortunately I could not deliver naturally due to a muscle that is in the way and it develops during pregnancy. Before I even stepped into Alicia's class I had already experienced her calming energy over the phone while talking to her about signing up. Highly recommend taking this class whether it's your first baby or 5th! Took the course with Alisha with my first pregnancy about 2 years ago and had an amazing labor & delivery! I went in the class scared from labor and the thought of possibly having a surgery (C-section) terrified me. By the end of the class course, I had completely forgot why we took the class, my husband had to remind me! I was looking forward to labor and meeting my baby boy. I did end up having a quick 4 hour & 51min labor and delivery with only minor labor pains. Absolutely no painkillers and didn't even have an IV (hospital did insist on putting a needle in on hand for emergencies but took it off right after delivery). Alisha is very sweet and accommodated us to taking one class that we had missed on her next course. She's not so good with computers so emails don't get responded promptly but call her and she'll get back to you very quickly. Overall, very satisfied and recommended to every pregnant women I met and my knowledge 3 have taken the course and loved it as it has helped then with labor too! My husband and I took the 5-week hypnobirthing class with Alisha a couple of months ago. It was one of the best decisions I have made during my pregnancy! Not only is Alisha an engaging teacher, but she is so genuinely caring and heartfelt. As she will tell you herself, she had two painless childbirths so she knows it is possible and she will inspire you to believe it for yourself as well. She did a wonderful job with teaching us the official Hypnobirthing curriculum, and since she is a hypnotherapist herself, she also taught us some "bonus" self-hypnosis techniques that have become some of my favorites. The other couples in the class were amazing and it has been fun reading their birth stories as they come through on our email chain. I took this class and though there was some great info and support, the consistent topic over whether vaccines were a good idea kept coming up. The way it was discussed was more doubt oriented without providing a variety of educated points of view on the topic. I spoke to the instructor about it after it had been discussed at length during multiple classes and she agreed we'd discuss it less, but nonetheless, at the following class it came up again. Multiple parents were swayed by the instructor's views on giving infants vaccines at the hospital after delivery and these parents revealed they were indeed going to skip vaccinations. I originally didn't consider writing this review, but after my family was exposed to whooping cough at the doctor's office (just shy of our child's vaccination against this condition), I decided other people should at least be aware that this is likely to come up during class. Hypnobirthing techniques were great, but weren't 100% helpful as my birthing situation changed at the last minute. Other than that, the class had a relaxed atmosphere and Bini Birth was a great place to take the class. read more
