She and Benji…read morewere the first to arrive, they were running around, then came Cooper, he seemed very scared from the start and did not want to engage with other pups. We loved that trainers were there to help monitor behavior if necessary. If two pups were playing too aggressively,or if I pup was afraid they had a stick they used to get the pups to disengage and redirect. Fig has attended 3 socials and each experience has been positive where we learned something. One time another pit puppy was playing a lot with Fig, she was racing in circles, tumbling, fully engaged, then went to rest in the shade. She seemed done after 20 minutes, rather than keep her in the social to get my full 30 minutes we thought it best to leave on a good note. The last 2 weeks, August 15, 22 we brought our 2nd new puppy, Sage. At first she was shy (and this was her 2nd day with us), trying to figure out this area full of puppies, she quickly found that same pit puppy that Fig played with the week before. The recommendations from trainers to humans is to walk and socialize with other owners and not engage with our pups. We can check in with our pups as needed, but the goal of asocial is for puppy engagement. Our 4 year old Jelly, lost her big sister, Journey (75 pound lab/pit mix) on May 9 due to an unauthorized person, living with a small boarder, letting our dogs out of their kennel. Journey did not know this person and would not go back into the kennel, the woman went into the house and Journey was never seen again alive. She was killed by a hit and run off San Martin Ave near Center. To help Jelly gain some independenceand confidence we enrolled her in the 4 week training program. Rachel was her main trainer and we saw such growth in her over the month. We take Jelly on Saturday morning pack walks and small dog socials when possible. Our goal in training was to get a handle on Jelly's non stop barking when we talk to people on our walks, we didn't want her to get the small dog label of a yapper. She will go on her platform bed when we say 'place', she will sit/stay when we ask, we are able to go to a restaurant with her and Fig with no barking. ICA gave us great tools to help our dogs have a rich social life, now if it's up to us to continue the training.

My puppy was put into the small dog pen where he was immediately broad sided by another dog. He screamed and hid in the corner the remainder of the time. The trainers would not let me console him nor try to coax him out to play. They instead tried to poke at him with long sticks to get him out of the corner. (He now has a fear of brooms, mops, or any other long pole that resembles what they used.) I was also told I would be able to talk to trainers about the programs, our needs, and perhaps some advice on dealing with a teething puppy. All the trainers, including the owner, acted extremely put out that they had to talk to me. I will not be taking my dog back.

I'm sure the other people in my class really benefitted from this. If you've never done agility this is a great place to start and continue your training! The time spent on foundations is exceptionally amazing. It will give you the precision, not only to compete with your dog, but to keep your dog safe once you start working with the agility equipment. A lot of people don't know how much effort these handlers put in on the safety aspect when working with agility equipment. The dogs can get seriously hurt if they land wrong on jumps. They can fall off equipment because they don't know where their feet are or the handler "pulls" them off by changing their body language to soon. Foundation work is necessary and very important. If you are like me and moved to the area with previous agility training. This is not the place. They start you with very basic foundational skills for the first 6 weeks. Sit, stay, eye contact, and a few other things. Not knocking that these are not important, as they should be there if you've been training for a while. When I asked if we would be continuing onto the next set of classes, I explained why we would not be continuing. Never received a response back. It made it seem as if it was merely about the finances at that point and I wasn't worth their time. I felt this was unprofessional on their part.

I began exploring all kinds of programs with various trainers around the idea and Primal Canine stood apart from the get go because: (1) Erin is an amazing, kind and professional person to work with. She is prompt, yet not pushy. She worked with the facts and empathy for our needs and budget to help us get to the right program. (2) The trainer we were assigned to was forthcoming, efficient and excellent with the training. He was clear with what we could expect and what the constraints were. (3) Primal Canine is local to where we live, and we really preferred to go with a nearby small business, as both one we could support and build a relationship with, and for convenience. Within the 3 weeks of board and train our puppy went through, he came back with solid foundations and ability to understand and respond positively to basic commands. Primal's role does not end with the program - they constantly support with our needs and questions even after graduating from B&T, and actually offer a lifetime of resources to help us grow and flourish with our new best friend. Before her first stay, they gave us a tour of the property and had Lucy complete a daycare trial, which gave me so much confidence. One of my favorite moments has been running into some of the staff on our walks. Lucy gets so excited and runs right up to them, which says everything about how well she's cared for there. I've also referred family friends, and they've all had great experiences. Desjardins is a place I trust completely, and I know Lucy is always happy and well cared for.

When Jake modeled how to put our pup in the crate, he had her hanging w/her 2 front feet off the ground (choking), & he then proceeded to knee her into the crate. Yes, he knee'd her. When we brought out our existing dog, he actually hit him in the face! My family & I were totally stunned. I very sternly told him that we do not hit our animals in this house under any circumstances. He was extremely dismissive. This was my first experience with a private trainer & did not know what to expect, nor did I know much about the world of dog training. As the weeks went by I did reach out to Jake again because we felt desperate & the idea of what he was selling sounded like it would be good for our dogs' needs. However, I could not get past the first encounter, nor the pit in my stomach. I, personally, did not trust Jake to treat our animals with kindness & respect that they deserved. The other off-putting thing that Jake shared while he was at our home for the evaluation was that he once put his dog in down-stay & then forgot about her. He fell asleep & awoke the next morning to find her still in down-stay, but had soiled herself. He was very proud of the obedience she had shown. I just couldn't help but feel awful for her, and continually thought that this was not a story I, personally, would be bragging about. I saw how he treated my dogs on our very first meet, I absolutely could not move forward whatsoever. I feel ashamed that I did not stop him in the middle of the evaluation. I should have. I should have asked him to leave & I did not. That haunts me. Our rescue pup is doing AMAZINGLY well with an AMAZING facility called RFRD!!! She is SO happy, calm, & every day learning how to be a calm pup despite her traumatic beginning. Their custom, well-rounded program, with honest experts, has changed the life of our pup, as well as our own. Harnessing Potential was not for our family, nor for our pups. Jake did not treat our animals with kindness or respect in our presence.

He doesn't just train dogs; he teaches humans how to truly understand them. What made the experience even more unforgettable was the joy he brought into the day. We laughed constantly. At one point my cheeks genuinely hurt from hours of smiling and laughter. And yet, amid all of that warmth and humor, we walked away with an incredibly clear, grounded, and practical understanding of his methods and a deep sense of confidence in our ability to apply them. Steve's approach is refreshingly doable: just five minutes of training per day, paired with his ongoing availability as a resource. That combination alone feels invaluable. We had to cancel our original training day due to a traumatic injury our other dog, Enzo, sustained: a spinal stroke. Tasha immediately offered to refund our deposit without hesitation. When I shared that I still very much wanted to work with Steve, she later went out of her way to find us an earlier date than originally offered after I asked to be notified of any cancellations. That level of care and humanity meant so much during a really difficult time. I am profoundly grateful for Steve and his entire team.
