It's in a prime location in middle of downtown saratoga in a beautiful park filled with history and a lot of natural springs that taste different. You pay a dollar to ride it and should i say anything more? If you are in Saratoga and have kids or you ate an adult and go down the memory lane of your childhood days, this is it. We don't make it up to Saratoga much, and avoid the crowds when we can. So when we were in the area on a beautiful September weekend, we headed to Congress park. The great thing about the carousel is that it is $1 to ride. It seems like kid's rides and entries to amusement parks and attractions are so expensive - but $1 is reasonable. The carousel is lovely, with classic horses that have real horse hair. My kids enjoyed the carousel, even though they are getting older. It was nice to wander the park afterward as well. read more

Sitting along the northern edge of Congress Park in downtown Saratoga Springs, NY you'll find the famous Congress Park Carousel, and during the summer months the carousel is mobbed with gleeful children who want to ride the horses. The carousel now sits inside a specially-constructed gazebo with weather-proofing around the sides to protect the hand-carved horses and other characters on the carousel. Each horse is hand-painted, and features a real horsehair tail. When my nieces were younger this was a very popular place to visit, especially since there is an ice cream shop located nearby. I still enjoy strolling past the carousel when taking a walk through Congress Park, and pausing to watch the next generation of youngsters enjoying the calliope music while riding the ponies. read more

I haven't been on a carousel since I was a little girl, and my goodness I wish I did it each time I saw one. The fantasy-like music, the gentle moving ride. We were laughing like kids again. Although I don't come to this park too often, when I do come, I must get onto at least one round of this Carousel. Although the ride doesn't cost too much (only $1 per rider per round ride; all which can't be beat) it's interesting to see money at work to improve historical carousels. Yes, a few years ago they used to hand out stickers (that said "I rode the Congress Park Carousel" to kids), but just planning on riding a carousel that is over 80 years old. So whether is a "photo op" for the kiddos or just something that you want to relive from your childhood about carousels, this is definitely a place to go. It's not very often that there's ever a long line, but when there is, the line moves quickly. When I went on this past weekend, there weren't too many other guests on my ride, but previous to this, there were several repetitions where the ride was building a line before the ride began, but both times calmed down quite quickly. Love that there are benches outside of the Carousel - for those who don't feel up to riding, or who choose not to ride, and yet, felling a slight breeze through the windows of the Carousel, makes this ride ever so much cooler and more temperature-controlled. I do remember years ago riding on some hot days, but no one ever remembered the windows - Gone are those days, but it's all upon those who work here who choose whether to open the windows or not. There's no air conditioning here, but I don't mind the ride with the windows open in early September (on Labor Day). I'm pretty weighty at 260lb, so recognizing that the horses themselves can only hold 250lbs really makes for an interesting ride on one of the carriages behind. I ended up having to sit on the carriages and had the horse's tail "scratch" up against the side of me...but I wasn't alone with my mother next to me and one of my less weighty brothers in back of me. About the only thing I didn't like (but could live with) is the fact that the carousel employees collect tokens from carousel guests upon entry that can be bought at the token machine nearby the entrance. Not really a worthwhile cause, if you want to ride again and don't have others handy because you miscounted. If there's a line, that second consecutive ride around could be delayed. Didn't like the fact that there was little to no music to this Carousel. It felt very blasé and it's history just made me skeptical - it used to be that nothing would draw me in to ride this ride - and until I've ridden it a few times did I recognize that "this really is a cool carousel". For those who have kids though, the length of the kids' legs to the horses feet holders really do matter. And on top of that, the size of the stirrups and the size of the person's shoe really need to be looked into. The sizes of the stirrups that are meant for the person's feet aren't big enough for the average foot from nowadays. My one brother who was able to ride a horse had some trouble placing his larger foot into the stirrups. Not wise! read more

This park was a nice place to be able to step back and just relax. Ride the carousel, peruse the springs and be sure to visit Spit and Spat.

The women that runs the carousel is the nastiest lady I have ever met. I brought a Fresh Air child that we were hosting for the week as a volunteer, and this woman threatened us on the carousel. She was incredibly nasty and rude. I had mistakenly got off my horse to take a pic, and she immediately came over and yelled at me. I apologized not realizing what I had done, and then got close to my face and said "what did you say? " My husband and I are professionals in our 50's , live locally in Saratoga springs, and think this women needs training on how to be respectful to others. I love what the carousel has to offer, but I can't believe my tax dollars are paying her salary. She needs to show we are a friendly town. She is a representative of our city, and with a bad attitude like that she should not represent us and should be retrained or let go, However, the carousel is beautiful, and now we need people who are beautiful within to represent it! read more

Fun ride for all ages. Its only a dollar person and is about 3 to 4 minutes long. Its a fun thing to do with your little kids or your friends. read more
