Awesome deli! It's hidden so you would never know it was in here but it's always been a good spot for lunches on the hill. They make the sandwiches in front of you and even have Boar's Head. This place has the best name of any liquor store around and though I've never actually bought liquor there, the deli upstairs is really good. I've had their tuna salad and chicken salad wraps and they're both fantastic. A great mix of spice and creaminess along with nuts, avocado, sprouts, etc. I really can't understand why anyone would go to the subway next door besides a crippling ignorance to the existence of this deli. read more

Despite its name, Congressional liquor also has a small deli upstairs serving up big breakfast sandwiches and good lunch wraps, subs, and sandwiches. The breakfast sandwiches are ok but a little dry. I much prefer to come here for lunch, especially since options are so sparse on Capitol Hill. The line can be a little slow, but the freshness of the albeit standard ingredients and the care with which they are put together really makes this place one of the better lunch options around. I usually get a turkey, avocado, lettuce, tomato, on rye with mayo and mustard, but the chicken salad wrap is good as well. Stop in sometime and you won't be disappointed by this somewhat hidden spot. read more

This is a family owned business in SE Capitol Hill and I am a huge fan. In the mornings (and all day) they have Good quick bagel sandwiches made fresh, and occasionally the special treat Korean comfort food which always hits the spot. Decent, affordable, Hot coffee in the mornings. Respectable selection of bottled juice and bagged snacks if you need to grab and go. They're kind to everyone. I love when you find the unexpected! First off good liquor and wine selection for its size!! But then what.. hello delicious random deli upstairs! I came with a coworker and we ordered the meatball sandwich and chicken salad wrap and split and both were really yummy. They also have boylan'a sodas! Yum yum yum. Recently called the store to inquire about a few of their high-end liquor bottles and spoke to Christine (the store owner). She said they were available and I'd have to come in to talk about price. I let her know that I wanted to pay cash for these bottles and that I'd be there within the hour. We ended the call at 1055am and I arrived by 1145am. Found Christine and she said someone just came and bought the bottles after we already agreed I'd come in and purchase. She then proceeded to offer me different bottles (bottles that we marked up 400% and not worth as much) - clear bait and switch move. She didn't even have the decency to call me back to notify me. She gave me the lame excuse of, "you didn't ask me to hold." Again, DO NOT TRUST this place or her -- integrity is incredibly low and she will waste your time. Go to DuPont Liquors, Capitol Hill, or Harry's instead. read more

Congressional Liquors has the best sandwiches! They have excellent ingredients (avocado, an assortment of cheeses, sprouts), and good prices (just bought a wrap for $5.69). The menu has about 15 different sandwiches (including 3 vegetarian!) but you can basically create your own if you want. The wait time is never bad, even when they're busy, and the woman who always makes my sandwich is so nice! The only reason I gave then 4 stars and not 5 is that they enforce a $7 minimum to use a credit card. But, if you plan to buy a drink or side of chips anyway, it's not really an issue. read more

My mom was horrified when I told her my favorite lunch is from a liquor store, but it really is! The sandwiches are always good. For breakfast I highly recommend the sausage, egg, cheese, and avocado sandwich on a croissant! For lunch the chicken salad wrap and the chicken club wrap are great! I tried the cheese steak sandwich today, which was so good i HAD to write a review. YUM! They have amazing honey mustard too! The lady behind the counter is always super friendly, and the food is prepared very quickly! There is a $7 minimum on credit cards, but who doesn't love an excuse to grab a pack of gum, a drink, or something from their HUGE chip selection?! PS they also have scratch off tickets and one of my friends won $50 from them a few months ago, so that's cool. read more

This place sucks. If not for their proximity to the capitol building, I'm sure they would be under. Very unfriendly AND unresponsive staff with the goods being super expensive. One of the workers will just sit in the corner and look down at the floor not even taking the time to look at you. The selection is "fair", which is why I gave them one star. I will never go back; I'd rather risk the premium price of a delivery service. read more

Since the New Owner took over the place in 2016, the deli menu has transformed into a high level of awesome delicious sandwich menu. You should try and find out yourself why the liquor store sandwiches are better than Wall Street Deli. Holy Ham, Holy Cow, and Holy Turkey sandwiches. Don't expect condiments on your sandwich. If you order a bacon egg and cheese with salt pepper ketchup you get a dry bacon egg and cheese. you have to put your own ketchup on it and salt and pepper. If you don't notice the salt pepper ketchup are on the counter then you get to work like I did and have to eat a dry sandwich. Also if you want to use a credit card good luck they don't swipe it through they carbon copy it. And if your total is 6.38 they won't round up I now have 2 packs of gum I don't need or want . read more

Incredibly friendly staff, good selection, and conveniently by the metro!

Bad. A handful of the people who work here are friendly and courteous but that majority are cold and rude. More problematic, they close whenever they want...fifteen minutes, a half hour sometimes more than an hour before the posted closing time. it happens very often. Its maddening. read more
