Just got new carpets from Conklin Bros and love it! The only reason why I'm giving 4/5 stars, is because the gentleman that came to our house told us not to worry about moving larger furniture. During the day of installation, the installers told us it would be an extra fee for moving these items... I'll take some responsibility for not inquiring about any extra fees, however, the fee should have been brought up to us during the first visit. read more

We just completed a full office remodel that took a couple of months and done in 3 phases. These phases posed some unique challenges for us and for the Conklin installers. The phases were done in a way that made carpet alignment a serious challenge. Johnny, Jason and Colin were rockstars when it came to demo'ing out and installing the new carpeting. They took on the challenge with phase carpet alignment and they were able to pull it off beautifully. The carpet looks as if it were done in a single phase rather than broken up into the 3 separate and offset phases. The Conklin team were onsite and on time for each phase. They were able to wrap up each phase on time as they promised. They were easy to work with and did a professional job with pride in their work. I would not hesitate to use Conklin again (and have even recommended them) and I would request Johnny and his team to be my installers. My husband and I decided to hire Conklin Bros. to install our flooring, after a lot of research and a couple of estimates. Tom Restuccia was very knowledgeable about flooring options, and spent time with us discussing what would work best for us. We have cats, and we wanted flooring that is durable as well as attractive. After deciding for Mannington Luxury Vinyl Tile, Tom came over, measured, and gave us our written estimate. Because our cats are indoor cats, we requested set hours for the installation. Tom was very accommodating; so was the Installations Manager and the crew. The installation crew, Mario and Jose, were very professional. They were very punctual, meticulous, knowledgeable, and have an excellent work ethic. When they were done for the day, they made sure that everything was cleaned up. Upon finishing the installation, Mario made sure we were pleased with everything. Plus they were done ahead of schedule! Our floor looks amazing, it's easy to keep clean, and we just love it! Going the extra mile is what they do very well! Tom came by after the installation was complete, to verify that everything was to our satisfaction. Unrelated to Covid, I am totally disappointed with the overall quality of the shopping, advice and installation experience. Conklin was quick to "advise" to lead to a sale, but they steered us wrong on padding and carpet on a slab. And when we called to say we didn't think it was right or level, we were told "we'll look into it and call you right back"... No one ever did. Mediocre experience at best. read more

I phoned to ask about carpet remnants and got a salesperson who huffed in irritation when he realized what I was asking for. He put me on hold, then the phone just started ringing again with no answer like he transferred me off somewhere. So now I know when I do big jobs, like my upcoming bathroom renovation, not to visit this place. There is nothing worse than a pretentious sales clerk. Bruce Nunley helped me a few years ago and I was glad to find he is still there now (3/2019) to help me make decisions on replacing my living room carpeting. Conklin has a huge selection of carpeting and hard flooring as well. Bruce is extremely professional, knowledgeable and helpful in determining the best material for your lifestyle, pointing out pros and cons. Conklin is able to provide samples to take home and can order and deliver in a week and has best prices on carpeting in stock! The installers were on time, did a beautiful job installing (stairs too), listened politely to my concerns and had detailed written instructions and diagrams from Bruce. I have used Conklin Brothers three times over the past several years, most recently to replace the wood laminate in my elderly parents house in Palo Alto. The installers went out of their way to leave a pathway through the house for my Mom and her walker. I have dealt with Robert all three times and he has been professional and helpful in providing expert advice, samples and estimates. I just wish I could get them to do the floors in a rental house we own in Southern California but no Conklin Brothers down there! read more

Didi S. is amazing! I needed help with a sheet linoleum floor. I wanted to put an oak T-Molding in between a floating laminate & my real linoleum. No, not vinyl!! Real environmentally sound biodegradable linoleum!! They are definitely NOT the same. There is no track to put the T-Molding into; it is simply a piece of oak shaped like a T... The instructions for the T-Molding said to glue the molding to the stable non-floating floor with an "appropriate to all surfaces" construction adhesive. BUT none of the construction adhesives I could find listed linoleum as being one of the substances you could glue to... *sigh* I didn't want an unfortunate chemical reaction with the floor. Melting your kitchen floor is never good! The internet was no help.. They kept trying to tell me about vinyl sheet goods. I called Forbo (the lino manufacturer) & got no answer. After leaving several messages I finally got an email telling me make sure the floors were level with one another (DUH!) & to glue down the TRACK to the subfloor (with still no adhesive recommendation!!) I had told them exactly what I said above THERE IS NO TRACK. How hard is that to understand? What kind of flooring people would not know that just plain old wood T-molding exists...? Apparently, a lot of them. BUT not Didi S! She knew exactly what I was talking about (they sell real linoleum) and she grabbed one of her installers and found out EXACTLY which adhesive I should use. She also found me a couple of discontinued lino samples I could use as a test drive just so I could get the feel of the adhesive application BEFORE I used it on my floor. Now THAT is service!!! Thank you Didi!!! You saved me from a possibly costly & messy problem. WAHOO!!!! read more

Don't even want to give this place a one star. This San Jose location on Almaden is horrible. If you call and ask any questions the sales rep gets short and pissed as if your did something wrong. I spoke to this jerk named Nelson who quickly got short and rude with me just because I asked the questions was there a process to expedite an order because in the flooring field available material can be the difference between you getting the job or not. The delivery warehouse guy was really friendly and the young lady who answered the phone was also kind, but for the rest of the staff they need some customer service training or a long vacation. My experience at Conklin Bros. was phenomenal. I re-carpeted my entire home and they made the two-day process easy to manage. The best part was this huge, heavy, hand-carved grandfather clock that I inherited. I was told it could not be moved and I'd have to have my old carpet left below it. I understood and accepted that. Great Experience at Conklin, San Jose! Didi assisted us with choosing the flooring for our home. She provided us with excellent customer service and the time and space to peruse the sample books and literature of the various types of flooring we were considering for our home. Didi gave us sample flooring panels to compare and contrast with our furnishings, paint etc., and we returned with a choice within 24 hours of our meeting with her. We worked further with Gregory and had an equally excellent experience! Gregory knows his stuff and was patient working with us through a long process of scheduling measurement dates and installation dates. He further assisted us with designing a layout for our home that we LOVE! The installation team of 2, Mark and his nephew(apologies, didn't catch his name) were AMAZING! and that's an understatement. They installed the entire floor throughout our 1800SqFt home, including installation of bullnose and baseboards in each room. They were artistic in the design and layout of the floor and they left our home clean and neat, taking out the trash and debris daily. They treated our home as their own and put TLC and a great work ethic into the job and completed to perfection the installment in one week. The live by the motto,"measure twice and cut once." Here's the thing. The installers were (for the most part) excellent - although they left a toilet rocking like a rocking horse, and it wasn't like that before. And I don't have any complaints about the price or the choices or the scheduling. However, the salesperson was very disappointing. Very friendly guy, but he did not follow through on things he had promised on. Lots of frustration that you really don't need when you're doing work on your home. Eventually it all got done. Not sure if I'd go back to Conklin Bros, but if I did I'd want a different sales rep. read more

Terrible service. It's more than a month that we are trying to have our hardwood floor installed. They are very slow and not knowledgeable at all. We wanted to replace carper with new hardwood that matches existing hardwood in other areas of the house. The sale person brought five samples and we picked one. It turned out that sample was not correct. The board does not match the existing one at all, color, width, pattern are all different. They basically our money. Do not work with them. read more

After trying Empire Today (what a joke) and 6 other companies (didn't have the right colors, etc.) I finally realized that Conklin was right down the street! Robert Overholt was my salesman and he was awesome with helping me several times to get exactly what I wanted. Butch and Fidi were my installers and just perfectionists! Got the big job done in 4 days! The vinyl is just so beautiful and my dream color (super light blonde wood color) in fact I have had contractors over to my house for other reasons and they were amazed that it was vinyl! VERY happy with my new floor. I visited Conklin Brothers because I wasn't thrilled with the wood grained ceramic tile I was seeing at my local Home Depot and Lowes stores. We wanted something that would add texture and interest to our kitchen remodel. When I went in and met with Darryl, I found the flooring I wanted. I wanted to buy a specific, highly rated bamboo flooring and I wanted it installed by experts who had experience with the material. Conklin Brothers carried the bamboo, and they had been in business in my city for many years.The salesman assured me that their installers worked for Conklin Brothers and that he knew them all. He told me that they provided the highest level of service possible, and talked about their long history in the business. Unfortunately for me I trusted him. The salesman lied about crucial aspects of the process. The installer and the salesman contradicted each-other. Both of them were disinterested in written warnings on the materials. They did not follow industry standards. Actually, the installer could not read the instructions and warnings on any of the materials. The salesman promised me that the cement would be properly prepared, they worked on it, then the vice president denied responsibility for the condition of the sub-floor! Adhesive stains ended up on top of the bamboo in spots by the score throughout my house. The installer first denied that they existed, then he denied that they were caused by adhesive. Finally he tried removing them by mopping the floor with paint thinner on a rag. Conklin Brothers brought out their, "best installer" who worked for about a day and a half removing adhesive stains. Finally he told me that many stains simply never would come out. Sadly, his opinion is consistent with that of other experts and the flooring manufacturer. I discovered a long dip in my entry way and two areas in my house where the planks make noise and move. I withheld the final payment. My belongings were half in the garage and half on my patio. It rained. Conklin Brothers Vice President put a mechanics lien on my property, a first for me. He contradicted the salesman and the installers. He claimed that the installer had done a lot of work for his firm. The installer told me that this was his first job for Conklin Brothers and his first time working with bamboo flooring. This was not some plastic language barrier, he was quite clear about this. Conklin Brothers charged me concierge prices ( over 13.80 a square foot after I removed the carpet, pad and all furniture!) then sent some random hacks out to experiment in my home . Sound like a good deal to you? But don't take my word for it. Ignore their florid salesman-speak. Read the invoice carefully and see if you can find any language that benefits the customer. Read the fine print at the bottom. It looks to me like an attempt to absolve Conklin Brothers of everything they do or touch, then collect. Nice. Do yourself a big favor and avoid these guys. read more

I heard a Conklin Bros ad on the radio, and that prompted me to write. I've been meaning to do this for a while. I was VERY dis-satisfied with the workers Conklin Bros sent to my home. I contracted Conklim Bros to re-stretch carpet that had started to crease. Two workmen that showed up and while one worked, the other goofed off. He joked around, lay on his back with his feet up the wall, and then pissed all over the bathroom floor and toilet. If I wasn't home watching, I'm sure he would have been rifling drawers. The one that was working told him to "cool it", but was ignored. I was never happier than went they finally left. I will never do any business with Conklin Bros ever again. read more

I'm so disappointed that I'm giving Conklin a 1 star! I've heard amazing things about them and I was super excited to call them when I wanted to remodel my home and add hardwood flooring to the carpeted area that is currently there. I did research for months and narrowed it down to Conklin. I called and spoke to a very nice young lady who went over tons of options and colors with me in regards to the wood. I was leaving for a business trip the next day so had to make my appointment for October 28th (Saturday) . The nice young lady said that someone would come with color samples and take measurements for me! Imagine my excitement! I couldn't wait until Saturday arrived. I really wanted to get this project going. Well, Saturday came and went. No call. No apology. No reschedule. I see all of these excellent reviews and I don't doubt them at all, but I am shocked that a "reputable" business would miss an opportunity to make money! Hardwood floors are not cheap so this was a big mishap on their part. I would have thought that they were a little more organized that this and didn't just keep people waiting and then not show. But hay, I'll happily spend my money else where! ....................................... Conklin brothers gave the 5 star service that I knew they would! Promptly emailed (had wrong number and email previously) and rectified the problem! Super excited about finally seeing some of their product and hopefully having a beautiful floor installed!!!! To reach out and try and rectify the problem is 5 star in my book! They could have ignored me and pretended as though they didn't see the rating. I can't remember the stuffed shirt who waited on us when there was NO ONE else in the store today, but his attitude was condescending as hell. We needed some engineered hardwood for our home-just a small amount and we inquired on some credit terms-not sure whether we qualified. Well we didn't and he told us under no uncertain terms that when I said I would order some in the near future, he said to remember that I had to bring in some cash or a check. Very bad form. I suppose if you are in your fifties and overweight, they consider you less than a yuppie and little more than bums. With one week to go before our daughter's Bday party, we decided to upgrade the floor of our downstairs bathroom. Robert at the sales department went above and beyond to help us out: he suggested porcelain tiles, loaned us sample tiles so we could pick the perfect color/texture, coordinated the shulter trim for the tiles, and, when some of the tiles arrived chipped, placed an express order for replacement tiles. Our project was completed just in time, and we received many compliments on the new bathroom floor! read more

We recently got our 3200 square foot house installed with carpets. Before we decided to come here we price checked a lot of places. There were a few places that were slightly cheaper but the customer service was horrible. We decided to come here because we felt so welcomed and the customer service was the best. Tom not only made sure we had the right carpet but met all of our needs. He was even understanding of our time "crunch." We've done a lot of home improvements and this was by far the best experience we've had. From Tom to the installation guys we can't praise them enough. Highly recommend this place. read more

Pretty disappointed. I contacted Conklin Bros. online to ask for prices and specifics on a specific flooring product recommended to me by a friend for my upcoming remodel. After 2 emails, I was advised that the produce was discontinued, but I had to ask for the price and details of the "replacement item" for which they pretty much only provided a sku number. I was told a few brief things about the product including "I think the boards come up to 6' long" (shouldn't the customer service rep check if I'm asking about a specific product rather than guessing?) and sent a link to a website to learn about the product for myself. I'm making my $18,000 purchase elsewhere due to Daryl Zweigle's failure to actually be helpful. read more
