Instead, the associate I spoke with came across as condescending and dismissive. When I showed him a carpet I'd found online, he didn't really try to help or explain options; it felt like he just wanted to move me along. He repeatedly pointed out that the carpets I was considering were "cheap," and when he mentioned another one was around $4,000, it came with a "well, that's expensive -- what's your budget?" tone rather than an attempt to genuinely guide me. I went in because I'm not an expert and wanted knowledgeable advice, but I left feeling unwelcome and talked down to, which was disappointing given the positive reviews I had read beforehand. read more

Addendum 9-22-23 The edge of one of our rugs that we purchased here a few months ago became frayed. So we called Istanbul Rugs if they can fix it. They agreed but mentioned that it was frayed because of the vacuum cleaner. Ogi came over to pick it up. He took one look at the rug in our family room which we purchased months ago and mentioned it was too small for our room. He said he could take our rug back and give us a bigger one. I wasn't really prepared to change our rug because we went over so many rugs that they showed us until we found the one we truly liked. Ogi said he can bring rugs to our house so we could choose. We were looking for a blue rug. A few days later he returned with 3 rugs and laid it out on our driveway because they were so big. I said only 3? Hakan showed us over a dozen and I only chose one! Ogi mentioned that he doesn't sell rugs like that and he already had an idea of what we like. Of course I rejected the first 2 rugs but the 3rd one seemed interesting. So he and his assistant took the rug in and laid it on our family room. My husband liked it a lot but I said keep it here because I'd like to sleep on it. Ogi gave his price which he and my husband kept negotiating. By the end of their negotiations, the rug grew on me and I agreed to keep it. I told Ogi that I was disappointed that Hakan sold us a smaller rug and he should have known the proper size for our family room. I had a very dirty rug 8 x 11 rug. The last time I cleaned it, I had a truck and delivered and picked up myself This time, asked Istanbul to clean it. They arranged for pick up. The cost was reasonable and the pickup and deliver team (same guys) were so nice, asked if they needed to remove their shoes, and asked if I wanted them to wear masks. The rug came back looking and feeling like new. The price was reasonable and I was very pleased with the service. I have visited the store. If I needed any more rugs, I'd buy about half the inventory -- every rug is gorgeous. read more

This is a wonderful store for both purchasing and repair/cleaning of rugs. There is a huge selection and the staff is extremely patient with helping you look through and identify what you are interested in, as well as knowledgeable about the type of rugs that they have. I also brought in a rug that I wanted repaired and cleaned, and they did a really beautiful job on it (it looks brand new, no complaints whatsoever). Stumbled upon this new rug store last week and couldn't resist to take a peek! The inside is breathtaking. Lined with perfect stacks of rugs with beautiful large area rugs hanging from the walls. He offered to bring a selection of rugs to our home and lay them out in the space the rug would go in. They came to our home 2 days later and showed us about 10 rugs (they had more if we needed). His team was friendly and respectful of our home (this involved moving furniture in order to lay the rugs down). Picked out a lovely rug at a reasonable price (I've bought many rugs over the years). Ogi patiently explained everything I could want to know about how the various types of Turkish rugs are made, the materials used, and how to care for them. His showroom was decked out in all manner of recently-made rugs with myriad color palettes and patterns. Ogi's crew patiently moved aside every rug in a stack of perhaps 70 so we could see the variety of patterns, then pulled aside all the contenders we found so we could see them next to each other under the store's bright lighting. This was our first stop in a tour of local rug shops, but as responsible shoppers we had to check out the Palo Alto and Menlo Park competitors, too. Here's what we learned. * Everyone throws in a free rug pad cut to size, and acts like they're the only ones who do this. The material Ogi uses grips way better. WAY better. It has little rubber barbs sticking up that keep the rug precisely where you set it down. The others gripped the floor well, but let the rug slide against the pad. * Not all Turkish rugs are made to the same quality standard. Look at the little knots on the back. Istanbul Rugs are tightly knotted and evenly spaced. We didn't see quite this level of craftsmanship elsewhere. read more
