It had knots and resinous grain, but I was assured ahead of time that kiln drying would prevent seepage. The wood was primed and painted, but localized seepage began almost immediately. I treated the areas with a heat gun, white-shellacked, primed and repainted them. Those areas remained ok, but others popped up over the next year. Those were treated the same way, but more spots came up later that summer and the next. I sought advice from the manager I dealt with but the best he could suggest was to apply "Goo Gone." By the third year I had put more than 50 hours into heat treating and repainting, with no end in sight. It became clear i would need to replace the floor (original installation was another $5000). I contacted the owner with a description and pictures. It was obvious that the wood had not been kiln treated, or inadequately so. He expressed surprise, but stopped responding to my emails when I requested some modest compensation. A real nightmare.

I started the process wanting carrera marble, but after going to the stone yard, Mona noticed that I was being repeatedly drawn to a quartzite (fantasy brown). I didn't even notice it until Mona pointed it out! So after I jumped into the bold (fantasy brown) and left the classic humdrum (carrera) behind, enter John and his team of installers. While templating, John even gave me suggestions on my choice of brackets for the floating counter. During the install day, the crew was friendly, professional, and quick! Even though there were slight modifications needed, which were explained to me in a clear manner, the install took less than 2 hours. I'm extremely happy with BSW and would recommend them to anyone!

Ran into a problem: they didn't have any remnants in that color, and I'd have to purchase a whole slab just to match a little section. Mona came to the rescue! She offered me a remnant of a different color that she promised matches really really closely the original color. And since the new section was to be installed across from the old one (not contiguous), it would be very hard to tell. Sure enough, it worked out perfectly and Mona saved me a lot of money by finding a creative solution. Just like last time, I was doing this long distance without seeing anything in person. With contractors there is always drama or miscommunications, especially if you are not there to supervise. Not with Mona. Her reliability, attention to detail, and smart problem-solving in every project, no matter how small, give me total peace of mind. And the prices are still very reasonable, even years later! I promised him I would have the marble pieces shaped, polished, and distributed to family members as treasured mementos of our grandparents. The thought filled him with great joy. I brought the table pieces to Stonegates even though this isn't something any marble shop would normally do. Stonegates was warm, encouraging, and supportive of my project. They gave me a fair quote up front and held to it. They did their very best to make as many usable, interesting shapes from the pieces so that everybody could have something to use as a cutting board, or coaster, or bookend, or paperweight. One is already causing discoloration. I have treated this granite like a baby, carefully and consistently cleaning according to instructions. Now, I have been informed that the product and work are not guaranteed after closing although the builder claimed a 1 year warranty when we purchased the property. I would recommend that other developers and individuals choose a business that stands behind its products & work. Stonegate has come around and worked with me to make a sincere effort to address the problems. I appreciate that they have stayed in touch and recently been proactive in reaching out.
