    Michu, rescue adopted family member-
    Christine B.

This is the only place I would adopt any potential pet from. There is no exploit and adoption fee is more than fair. My cat Michu has a chip and I went online to complete the process. He is doing better each day and has gained weight. Michu is thriving and running up and down the stairs and he loves our large 3 season porch because of wide window sills and awnings so rain isn't an issue. Thank you for the wonderful match and your expertise on cat issues and upcoming vaccines.

This is a really beautiful facility with plenty of room for animals - I would say only 1/3 of the cat cages were full while I was searching for a new feline friend. The staff members are a bit quick, but they're not careless. They're just flat out understaffed here, and there's always a lot of people looking to adopt. They do a pretty good job of keeping their website updated with available animals. But the good ones go quick, so don't sit on your hands! That said - we got a good one. It was the first day he was available for adoption, so we jumped at the chance. He's a beautiful 22-month old longhair. Very sweet, well behaved, and we're calling him a "Siberian Mix" just to feel all exotic about it :). They are excellent with documentation. There was a lot of knowledge on this cat and many others, including demeanor, habits, types of food they like, reason for sheltering, vaccination and microchip details, even info on how they cohabitate with other animals and various ages of children. They are thorough to say the least. $90 is very reasonable for a cat in the 1-7 year old range... he was a bargain :). Consider the fact that this money goes towards necessary medical care, operations, shots, etc. $200 is now the price for a kitten under 6 months, which is steep, but hey, it's a donation, right? We love "Kugel," and he's a wonderful new part of our family

I adopted the sweetest kitten here over Christmas, he's an absolute love and the adoption process was really easy. I live in the Boston area but a lot of the shelters around here make you jump through tons of hoops in order to adopt (fill out lots of paperwork, provide vet records from all your past pets, give them character references they can call, etc). I also believe in allowing a cat outside if it clearly really wants to and many shelters won't give you a cat if you tell them that. I already knew which kitten I wanted to meet before I drove down. I was brought right into a small, clean visiting room with a few toys to get a chance to meet him and play with him for a bit. There was no rush or pressure, but when I was sure I wanted to him, it maybe took 5 minutes to fill out the paperwork. The adoption fee was $140 but they take credit cards which a lot of shelters don't. I'd definitely take the drive down here again next time I'm looking to adopt. Full disclosure: I'm a bit biased because a close family friend works here and she recommended I come down and check out their kitties.

I am really surprised by some of the negative reviews because my experience here was wonderful. Last year I had to put down my 14 year old cat, which was awful. His brother was completely depressed, and though I wasn't ready for a new cat, I had to do something to get him out of his funk. So my best cat lady friend and I went to the CHS to see who was up for adoption. We ended up going twice before I made my decision. The staff was amazing on both a slow and a busy day; they were very patient and understanding about my random crying and indecisiveness. They made a difficult situation easier for me and did their best to make sure that I went home with the right cat. The animals are well cared for and the staff was able to answer any question I asked. I ended up adopting a crazy kitten that was somehow perfect for my meow friend and myself. I paid $250, which I found completely reasonable since he was microchipped, neutered, and had up to date shots. The prices are prorated based on the age of the animal, which is great. For those that complain it is too expensive, be aware that some other shelters that charge less may cost you more in the long run. My same cat lady bestie didn't adopt from CHS and ended up paying tons of vet bills for ringworm. I would adopt another cat from CHS in a heartbeat.

We were here July 4th weekend "browsing" And wow, what a nice facility! Friendly staff, clean animal quarters for both cats and dogs -- the CT Humane Society puts other regional shelters to shame in terms of cleanliness. Our adoption counselor, Katie, was awesome. She was helpful, informative and very patient with all of our questions and needs. She gave us a rundown of the previous owner, and our furry friend's health history. We ended up seeing a few kitties before actually going home with one! The entire process was quick and simple. A few days later I got a follow-up call from a member of their administrative team. It was a pleasant chat and I even learned that later this month (July 23, 2016) The CT Humane Society will be hosting an event where all adoptions will be $50 on this one day only! The Connecticut Humane Society is the best. Their main purpose is to rehome pets, which is great.

I was instantly struck by how quiet and peaceful the dog area sounded while I signed the visitor's log upon entering building. Typically on past visits, the loud sounds of multiple dogs barking could be heard from main entry door. I was told by the reception desk that the dog area is not available for visits- that they noticed during the pandemic (no visitors) that the dogs were calm and peaceful, so they changed the visit policy for the dogs' best interest. Can't argue with that- the calm silence was absolutely astounding, and the ideal atmosphere for any dog adjusting to their new, hopefully short-term environment. Call ahead to check the policy for your potential adoption visit- I didn't ask about it. We did see a private visitation in progress for a potential adoption, in one of the small visitation / consultation rooms off the main hall when we walked to the cats and the small furries adjacent to cat zone- happy to see that most cat spaces were empty. All cages / holding spaces looked very well maintained, and animals healthy, which was consistently my experience when I used to visit often when I lived in the area.

Some of the staff was helpful, allowing access to view adoptable animals. One of the female staff…read moremembers who works the front reception area is a very rude and outright nasty individual, she should look to work behind the scenes as she lacks the proper people skills to help the adoption process be more successful. She was also very misleading with the needed adoption info. My wife and I traveled here twice within a day to have interaction with the dog we wanted and our kids at the shelters request. Each way was an hour and a half drive, we were told after we filed the proper forms and meet with the consultant there that upon further review they would not adopt the animal due to the fact that one of my kids was eleven and the puppy could only go to a home where every child was over twelve. This would have been useful info that would have saved me the three hours of round trip driving. What makes it worse is that the mean employee was informed by me the prior trip of my children's ages, at which point she stated that there was no problems and as long as the dog got along with all family members we could take her home with us. They allowed us to spend time withe dog starting to form a bond with her, and then dropped the bomb on us. I would recommend another humane society location over this one any day of the week!!!!
