Immediately after sitting down we were asked what we wanted to drink. Coffee for me and an OJ for my wife. She wanted the biscuits and gravy and I of course went for the country fried steak. The country fried steak was absolutely delicious. The gravy was perfect on top of everything. It mixed perfectly with the over easy eggs. My wife's biscuits and gravy was on point. We were excited to try because we like to visit local dining options when being out of town. We were seated by a young boy and given menus. He did take our drink order and we got drinks, but after that we were never waited on again. We sat for 25 minutes and were never acknowledged after that and had two that were waiting tables and even waited on people that came in after us. Disappointed! The meal itself was fantastic, I had the country fried steak breakfast and my partner had the western omelette. The country fried steak was cooked well and the gravy was very good without being super salty. The reason for the 4 stars vs 5 is that the coffee is really just hot water, and the food service was extremely slow, on a weekday morning we waited 45 minutes for our food. If you're looking for a place to eat without being in too much of a rush to do anything that morning, I highly recommend Connie's Corner. read more

Connie's was recommended by the staff at Homer Laughlin. Being unfamiliar with the area we had no idea what to expect. However, parking was easy and there was plenty of seating (do note it's March and we were there after lunch). The menu is quite large and based on other reviews we asked to sample the soup of the day, Chicken Dumpling. It was AMAZING! Our four year old daughter, who is well, four and picky loved it so we ordered a cup for her and a cup for me. My partner ordered the breakfast burrito and I ordered the biscuit and gravy. We quickly realized we ordered too much food as the "cup" of soup came in an actual bowl and the biscuit was actually two biscuits! We love Connies and the food and service are usually great; however we left disappointed last night. We were ignored and then when the waitress did take notice, she cut her eyes at me (after I had to ask the nice hostess for service). I understand that the restaurant was busy, and we waited a few minutes before asking to be served. We came here for lunch on day. We had a big party and managed to get reservations. We had a nice round table. The atmosphere is rather like a diner....a very old diner. The waitress was friendly. The menu is not very vegetarian friendly. It is large and relatively inexpensive. I had the grilled cheese on Texas toast and tomato soup. The grilled cheese was a delight after I put a large amount of ketchup on it. Of course, they had Heinz. The tomato soup was bland and not very good. Gonna have to pass on this one. My BFF had a free stay at Mountaineer. She mentioned she always eats breakfast here when they're in the area. We were there on a Tuesday morning and had the special which was an omelet with home fries, toast, and coffee. All for $6!!! It was delicious! I dined here alone for a Sunday lunch while visiting the area. Place was nearly full of 60-plus year olds and some younger folks mixed in. Yelp reviews brought me in and it was just outstanding tasting food. I asked about the soups and one of the sweet older hostesses brought me a sample of the stuffed pepper soup. It was outstanding and piping hot. I ended up ordering the soup in a cup that was a bowl fearuring various colored bell peppers, lol, and sausage gravy over a biscuit that was served extremely hot...like fresh from a salamander heater. Great flavor but wish the sausage pieces were periodically bigger. Took home 3 quarts of their soup and 8 pieces of their popular meatloaf that we will try tomorrow. I would drive 1 to 2 hours to take friends to this restaurant. I would give 4.5 stars if it was an option. Connie is a real person and she is awesome! read more

Today, I added a new place to my "return to" list. I was on my way home from the casino {I got a mug and an ice scraper free for $500!}, and as I hadn't eaten all day I decided to stop for dinner when I saw the Connie's Corner sign. Passing 2 windows to get to the entrance, it looked nice inside, although the exterior and the entrance itself don't do it justice. Inside...what a warm, cozy, inviting place! Somewhere around a dozen tables, I'd say, as well as maybe 8 booths. Evidently this place is big with locals as it seemed the waitstaff knew pretty much everyone in the place. This is the kind of restaurant that just screams "HOMEMADE!", and that always works for me. The menu is quite extensive--lots of comfort food!--and the prices were better than good. I decided on the special--salad, soup, applesauce etc. to start, Salisbury steak, choice of potato, choice of veggie, all for only $8.50! I went with broccoli cheese soup, and it was SO good that I ordered a quart to take home. The rest of the meal was hot, indeed homemade, and delicious enough to take the sting out of my casino losses! Well...almost. Kim, the young lady who served me, was a delight as well, very friendly and quite efficient. I was too full for dessert, but I brought home 2 pieces of coconut merengue pie which will be enjoyed tomorrow.
