Very impressive Champion of a restaurant that I ate at while visiting Tupelo over the weekend. It reminded me of "Champys's ". menu items ordered: 2 piece white meat southern fried chicken with green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and a sweet tea. The fried chicken was just how I like it which was delightfully well cooked just right breading with moist meat inside. Now, that's what I'm talking about. The Customer Service: excellent. Expect a slight wait time as they fry the chicken fresh to order. It's worth it believe me as this southern fried chicken was absolutely delicious. The price was I thought reasonable. You come in and pay at the counter. Then you receive an order number and wait for it to be called where you pick it back up at the counter. Nothing was wrong with the food or service, but also nothing to write home about. The service was quick and friendly. The food came out hot. I ordered the chicken biscuit, tenderloin biscuits, egg biscuit and biscuit and gravy. It was all bland. The biscuit was soft and fluffy though. I told the lady taking my order it was my first time here. She recommended the chicken biscuit. I added a blueberry donut because I'd seen one on another customers tray. Glad I did. Biscuits are light & airy and the chicken filet or pork tenderloin are quite tiny but well prepared & flavorful. They charge extra for " open faced" & for gravy ( which honestly could use a little sausage because it's flavorless). Eggs were available for$1.00/ea BEFORE the egg shortage so they may have gone up. Never could figure out why a "Chicken"restaurant closes mid afternoon & is closed on Sunday. Glad to see they have decided to open Sunday until 2:00 pm. Dining area is always clean and service is usually quick, friendly & efficient. read more

I could go on and on about Connie's. It's certainly a Tupelo institution, and people drive for miles and miles to get their hands on some of their biscuits, fried chicken, and blueberry donuts. My family tried all of the above just yesterday, and let me tell you, it was some mighty fine food. These biscuits were very buttery, filling, and packed with awesomeness. The blueberry donuts practically melted in your mouth. About the only thing left to be desired was the sausage portion in the sausage biscuit, could have been a bit bigger. But the fried chicken was great, gravy tasted excellent and was the perfect touch, and wowza! What a way to spend a morning in Tupelo! read more

I am happy to report that Connie's has the best blueberry donuts to ever jump into my belly. I bought two dozen, one dozen for some friends, and one dozen for me. I immediately took one donut out of the box and they were still warm. The sugary blueberry donut easily melted in my mouth and my taste buds said send them another donut right away. We went through the drive thru today and ordered a couple of 4 piece tender dinners. We waited at least 15 minutes and they brought our order out and my wife opened the box and it only had 3 tenders. When we said something we were told they only give 3 pieces of the 4 piece and then the girl said ,"he really needs to change the sign". He really does as we paid for a 4 piece. My lunch here was so good that I wanted to share it with my boss and my family. After I'd finished the job I was in town for, I came back for some carry out. Mike Asters remembered me from lunch and noticed I was back again. He started talking to me and was a really cool guy. He was 19 years old when he and his brother opened this place with his father Constatine. Everyone always called him Connie. Now 40 years later, it's still the same great food, but Mike is just about ready for retirement. He told me that there is nobody to carry out the tradition and he warned me that they won't be open too much longer. It's just gonna shut down and disappear. You better get it while you can! Such a shame to see a successful business close its doors, but I'm thinking there's got to be somebody willing to take it over. Mike told me they butcher only whole birds that come fresh from the farm. This means that they were literally alive just a few days before being served. The exception would be the tenders which are bought separately. They make their own donuts and they go through hundreds of pounds of onions a week for their onion rings. Breakfast is also huge for them. This is counter order, counter pickup, clean your own mess. The building reminds me of fast food like a Wendy's. They built it themselves 40 years ago, so it's never been anything else. The staff is super fast and you can easily do a 30 minute lunch break. There is a salad bar that looked pretty good. I can get salad bar anywhere. I wanted something special and their chicken is special! I'm gonna have to compare it to Gus's, because they are my favorite and the reference I use to judge all others. I think Connie's is bigger meat. The skin is incredible. To me, it's more crispy rather than crunchy. Very light and crisp. The skin reminded me a bit of cracklings. None of it was soggy. The meat was juicy and tender and cooked perfectly. Very clean tasting. Much, much better than KFC, Church's, Popeyes, etc. Where Gus's chicken is spicy and has that explosion of flavor in every bite, Connie's chicken is lacking in flavor. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and I was able to fix it with salt and hot sauce. I think some people may prefer this neutral flavor. My wife and I agree it was very good, but we like Gus's better. By the time Gus's brings your food to you, you would have already finished eating at Connie's. I thought it was just as fresh. The Mac & Cheese is so delicious that I bought a second side of it after I finished my meal. Mashed potatoes and yeast rolls good, but nothing special. 4 piece mixed, 2 sides, roll, drink, and tax $10. Takeout was another 4 piece with 2 sides, an 8 piece, a large side of mashed taters, large M&C, large gravy, 8 yeast rolls, and tax for $30! read more

Very good chicken tenders here! Very crispy, reasonably moist, good seasoning. The Mac and cheese side was pretty dry though, and the green bean pretty run of the mill. I tried the tenders at Papa V's a little later, and between the two I'd say the tenders are better at Connie's, the sides are better at Papa V's. Will probably come back here again next time I'm in town if I'm looking for a quick tasty meal. read more

Mashed potatoes with white gravy - pretty good, I added salt because it needed a little but it was tasty. BLUEBERRY DONUTS - YOU NEED THEM. All of them. You also need to go back the next day and get them when they're hot & fresh out the fryer. Eat them all. You're welcome. The staff is about the friendliest I've ever encountered, too. This place is as good as it gets. Quality EVERYTHING! My boo came here for years as a young little female, and now that she is a grown female, she brings me here as well. I've never had anything other than breakfast, but breakfast is beyond 5 stars. Apparently they're famous for their chicken biscuits (OMG SOOO YUMMM), so I very rare visit without devouring one of these. The blueberry donuts are also a must. I repeat, do not leave without getting a blueberry donut as well. We were driving through tupelo MS and stop at Connies. This place has some of the best food in town. The blueberry donut went perfect with my coffee. I also go some fried chicken and onion rings. The chicken was seasons really well and went well with the donut. I got a small onion ring and had to turn around and get a large one for the road. The rings had a great taste. Man was so full driving home it was ridiculous. This place is a must stop for me and my family whenever we are in the neighborhood. read more

There is NOTHING like southern fried chicken and SWEET tea. This place is always busy with a drive-thru that is always wrapped around the building. Parking is available but sometimes difficult to find due to the volume of people. You cannot make reservations. I got two fried chicken biscuits, a blueberry donut, and a sweet tea. DELICIOUS, that's all I can say. DELICIOUS. It smelted so good, I couldn't even stop to take pictures. The food taste like grandma's kitchen. The service is fast and friendly. There are no words suitable to describe the breakfast we just had out of an old fast food restaurant drive thru. The drive thru was 20 cars deep or so but there was no room to move inside so we got it to go. We ordered, 2 chicken biscuits (comes with sausage gravy on it, amazing), a chicken, egg and cheese biscuit (in one word, flawless), a sausage biscuit (juice patty, wish we got more!) and 4 blueberry donuts (they were out of this world, we should have gotten a dozen!).
