Recently I went to the shop to consign some close. The contract that you sign states that if after a certain amount of time the items don't sell and you don't pick them up within a week after the contract is due... the store gets to keep them and you have no authority over them. Knowing that, I picked up my items on time when the time was completed. When I picked up my unsold items I was handed about maybe three pieces out of several pieces including purses so I figured they sold everything else . they gave me $50 which honestly , I don't think it's much money in comparison to what was given to them. Todayay, a week after, I returned to shop for some items for myself while I was looking around I noticed one of my very expensive purses was still inside of the glass cabinet and I asked the girl at the front desk about it....she acknowledged that that was actually my purse , but failed to mention why I didnt get it back with everything else. So, I asked for it back. I left wondering if I could trust them with my items because apparently they "forgot" to give me that purse which is a little bit more expensive. I think that I will not return to this store to consign or buy because they're really not trustworthy if they missed giving me back the purse(a Dooney & Bourke) that did not sell, what other items did not sell and I did not get money for and they're probably still in the store? This was the first time I consigbed so...Im not saavy about this. Ill be looking elsewhere. It is bad customer service to give that impression to a customer that stops by very often to buy clothes. Completely inconsistent! One day you have an older knowledge gal taking your consignment, next time a young tattoo wearing who refers to Ann Taylor and Talbots as older peoples clothes. The owner? also RUDE! They always have issues with payouts. Either not enough cash or check printer not working .. BUT don't be late with your pickup of expired items they just donate it, no call no nothing. The previous owner was rude and everyone thought this NEW owner would be better .. NOT!! My friend and I decided to stop here while in town from Mn and Chicago. The reviews looked positive. I purchased a Cole Haan bag and Sam Edelson boots for a total of 101.74!!! Both were in pristine condition. The selection of clothes, accessories, shoes and bags was impressive. The prices I found were lower than expected on higher end items and a little more expensive on lower tier or casual pieces. Everything was clean and easy to find. The owners and staff are so nice. My friend and I travel together and also try to hit local consignment stores. This is now one of our favorites. read more

I have been to Consign and Design 3 times. Each time I bring something home. They have great quality clothes and shoes! Some of them are brand new with the tags still on. You'll find Nordstrom brands, Jones, Talbot's, Dress Barn, and much more. Great clothes for work! It is a little more pricey than your typical thrift store but you can't beat the quality. The first floor has furniture, jewelry, and other household items. The downstairs is filled with clothes. There is very limited clothing for men. The reason why I'm not giving 5 stars is the price and because of my last visit. The girl at the counter asked if my purse was "real". I said yes and she asked if she could look at it. Then a women came over, I presume the owner, and proceeded to tell me the signs of a fake Gucci purse and that the website said there is no cursive writing. I told her that my boyfriend had purchased the purse for me at Nordstrom and that I had the certificate of authenticity and that I didn't think Nordstrom would be selling fake Gucci purses. The website they kept referring to was ehow.com. It wasn't even the Gucci website! Geesh... I walked out of the store feeling a little offended and shocked at the way they would treat a customer. Word to the wise. Please don't offend your customers and tell them their purse is fake. I will not let this experience ruin it for me and WILL be back. I've never shopped in a consignment store (at least for myself) until last week. A co-worker and I had some time to kill, during our lunch break, so we decided to browse through the store. I was very surprised that they carry a lot of brand name items here (not that I'm only into brand named items or anything)! I ended up finding a nice little black dress that I didn't have time to try on that same day. I returned the following day to try on the dress, but I couldn't find it. The woman that I talked to the previous day ended up helping me find it. Apparently they rotate the items in the store to accommodate the newer items they receive. Long story short, the little black dress fit and I bought it for only $18 (if I bought it the day before, it would've been $23)!! Overall, the store has a great selection of almost anything you can think of! The staff members I've encountered were all very helpful and friendly. If I could give them a minus 5 stars I would. This place has serious ATTITUDE! Not friendly at all. They act like they are doing you a favor when you're the ones keeping them in business. They only take high end designer clothes even though they pretend not to. My clothes come back smelling of mildew after they have been there for a month. Not sure if it's the clothing section downstairs or they just threw my clothes in a box somewhere and never put them out. Now I have to have all of the clothes dry cleaned again so that I can either send them to another consignment store or give them away. This place is a total waste of time. read more

I have shopped at Design and Consign many times. I love the store and the variety of merchandise. My complaint is with the lack of customer service. I have never once been welcomed when I enter the store nor has any employee ever made eye contact with me. Even when I make a purchase they are not welcoming. No small talk and not even a thank you or thanks for coming in. The staff is rude, many of the items are overpriced and in poor condition, and selling here is a joke. I could get past all of this but I draw the line at the smell of the store. It reeks like mildew/mold in the store and I get a sore throat after just a few minutes walking around in the store. I recently dropped off a batch of clothes to sell here and when I got the unsold ones back, they smelled so bad that I couldn't even keep them or sell elsewhere. I live in Marin but prefer to drive up to Napa because I have not found a store as good as this in my area...The staff is so much like family to me now...very style conscious and we chat it up every time I go there. I also love to buy unusual formal wear...got two Sue Wong gowns for a fraction of the original prices. They also offer a discount for the Napa Express card holders...you get the next price down even before the date of 2nd reduction. They have a fab party every year at holiday time and I won a $20.00 gift certificate a couple of years ago! Most organized store (of any type) that I have traded with EVER! After about twenty trips or more and spending about $3,000, here is my review... a great place to buy, but not a great place to sell. Upstairs has jewelry, purses and some furniture. I have bought a lot of jewelry, most Brighton and unusual pieces and all around $20-$30, sometimes less. I have only found a few purses, most not in great shape. I love the clothes. Some junk to sift through, and oddly, suits are sold separately as pants and jackets, but I buy a lot of tops and shoes. Most are $10-$30 and in great shape. Come ready to spend an hour or so looking around. I always wish they would convert the upstairs into more clothing, because I never see anyone buying furniture. Ok, so I drive here from Marin and it is one of my favorite spots, but the down-side is that they are really rude. Not the young folks so much, but this older woman who appears to be the manager. I surely hope she is not the owner. When I brought a few things to consign (40 minute drive), she said she didn't know if they would get to me... Recently, I came in on a Saturday at 4:40pm. They close at 5. I knew that and I knew I would be fast. I can hear her barking at the employees downstairs, so loudly, that it was rude. I can only assume she wanted people to leave. The young girls sort of ignore it. I wanted to quickly try on a few things and she gave me that look like it was a great inconvenience. I finished before 5pm and waited in line to buy $130 worth of stuff. There were four groups of people in the store and three waiting to make purchases. The young person rang up my items and I paid. The older woman asked me if I wanted a bag. I said yes. She then barks at me that they are ten cents. I said the girl just wrang it up. (I assumed there was a bag charge.) She then barks at me, "most people just give us ten cents." Really???? I think MOST PEOPLE assume it is charged with the purchase. This is a really bad person for the store. I cannot imagine that this is the owner, or she would be happy that there was a line of purchases, even if it was 5:05pm. She clearly just wanted to close the store. She was rude enough that I may not go back. So, here is also my tip on selling. You will only get $5 or $10 an item on most things, so sometime EBAY is a better option. read more
