If there wasn't an internet monopoly in my area I would not choose to be a Consolidated customer. I have had ONE good experience with them and the telephone support is generally very nice--and seem as helpful as they can be given their constraints--which is why I gave them 2 stars. Over the years we've frequently experienced troubleshooting and repairs taking 4 days or more. Most recent experience: internet went down SUNDAY night; called MONDAY and was put through to tech support (I am not the primary account holder and didn't have access to the account # or PIN, so providing the primary account holder's name, associated cell # and address got me past customer service). Based upon my feedback they needed to send somebody out--but NO NEED to come inside the home--and it would be complete by TUESDAY EVENING. There was a snowstorm that day and I got a voicemail informing me that they couldn't complete the service until close of business WEDNESDAY (perfectly understandable--glad they care about the safety of their employees). End of day Wednesday and internet was not fixed, had NOT received any telephone or email communication notifying of another delay, or reason for delay. THURSDAY, got a voicemail in the morning saying that everything external looked fine and they needed access to the home--and they were heading there NOW. Of course nobody was home because we HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING they were coming, so I called them back to let them know. Apparently if they can't enter the home on the first visit (again, we had no way of knowing that they would be coming, so of course we weren't home), they have to close the ticket and now we have to call tech support AGAIN--3 DAYS LATER and make another repair appointment. I called and this time I could NOT get through customer service to tech support b/c I didn't have the account # and PIN (even thought it wasn't a problem Monday). My partner who has that information has very few opportunities to make non-work calls during business hours, so as of right now I'm not sure when he will be able to get through and make ANOTHER repair appointment. I'm afraid that if we can't call before early afternoon they won't be able to send somebody until next week. That would make it a full week until they (hopefully) fix the problem. NOT ACCEPTABLE. And most of the problem is due to POLICIES that do not take the customer's needs into account. The employees always seem to do the best job that they are able. And employee reviews seem to show that they are treated pretty well. At least Consolidated is doing something right. read more

I called to report that my internet was out. The service rep was polite but I don't know where they were working from - possibly remotely from their home. The background noise and other people talking made it difficult to understand what they were saying, plus English was not their primary language. I did manage to get an appointment 2 weeks out, but in the meantime I did some playing around with my router and modem etc and fixed the problem myself. read more

I was with them for 2 years but I got charged when I moved from my condo to my apartment that was in the same service area. They counted the move as a new contract. What a "money making" joke! I spoke to a couple of their ladies at customer service today and their were so very nice and respectful. Really was nice to have people so friendly even keeping me updated while on a short hold. The second lady's name was Paula the first I believe may have been Kiki. I am not sure have the first one i spoke to name correct, but they were both very nice. It is so nice to be able to speak to customer service people that are kind, let alone care about what has happened, but also help you. Thank you to both of the ladies I spoke to!! The only reason I gave a 4 star review and not a 5 is because the company itself has never been able to provide working wifi even though they have been here countless times. So that part maybe more of a technical issue. Even the technical support team have been friendly ever time they come out. read more

The worst company I have ever dealt with. I had a telephone land line with them, which this fall started not working, so that I had no dial tone and a "No Line" message on my phone screen. I went through the cumbersome process of submitting repair "tickets," which took Consolidated between three and eight days to repair each time. I submitted "tickets" on August 31, October 10, October 12 and November 3. Each time, the land line worked for a while--once just for an hour--then stopped working again. Today, December 4, I once again went to make a call and found the "No Line" message on my screen. So I finally cancelled my service, and secured mobile service from a normal company. Consolidated has ignored its land-line network to the point where it is crumbling. It is worthless. I even wrote to Consolidated's president, a jerk named Bob Udell, but of course got no response. Consolidated stinks. I cannot imagine why anyone would deal with them. They are a fraud. read more

Wish I could put zero stars. Their fiber optic installers broke the copper line. It has been two plus days. The support office says there are people working on it. I can see where they broke the line. Nobody has been there working on it. I have been told by their employees that they don't care about the copper line and I should just get the fiber optics. Extremely predatory company. I canceled my service with them in February using their website. The website said service was terminated and i figured that was that. nope. i got a letter in the mail a month later with a bill of over 100 dollars. Confused, I logged back into my account to see that it actually hadn't been terminated. so i paid the bill i definitely didnt even owe just so i wouldn't have to deal with their bad Customer service, i hit terminate again. and it said it successfully terminated once again. i even got a confirmation email this time. fast forward and now its June and I get a letter in the mail out of the blue saying i owe them over $250 dollars. and threatening to send my information to a collections agency. So i log onto my account to see a completely different balance than the one i received in the mail. its telling me i owe $360. this should be illegal. hell, it probably is. avoid this company at all costs. read more

I am so very disappointed in consolidated communications and their (what seems to me) to be their unfair billing practices. When we signed up for internet with them 7 years ago the price was $24 a month, which I think was fair. And to my fault, I never really paid attention to the bill (that is paid online via an online bill. Our internet is now $70 a month, it's increased $10 in the last 3 months alone. And If i want to get a more inexpensive price I need to sign a 2 year contract. They increase our pricces 3fold and it's ok, but if I want to decrease our price, I have to sign a two year contract. There is something REALLY wrong with that. read more

Because of my rural area I was not able to receive internet from Consolidated (just phone) although I have had their service at 2 other residences. The phone was terrible and only worked half of the time. I didn't always have time to call from work to put a required ticket in to fix the problem but the problem usually resolved itself within a couple days. I rely on a home phone to do on-call for my work every other week as I don't get good cell reception from home. Customer service was not helpful and refused to waive my early termination fee. I was able to get internet through another agency and now have exceptional internet and phone service at a fraction of the cost. The home phone bill was $70 per month and now it is $8 per month and my internet is $50. So for both home phone and internet it is cheaper than just a home phone with awful service. read more

This company is absolutely TERRIBLE. Since quarantine, my family is trying to work remotely & the internet simply never works. We call them daily to get someone to help and are met with rude customer service providing conflicting information on when we can get any type of help or service. This has been going on for 6 weeks - have been relying on my personal hotspot, paying for more & more data from our cell provider. We have been customers for over 20 years but never needing to rely on the internet to work from home. In this time of crisis, not even an apology or a make-good on the internet that we are paying for which does not work. If you can find any other provider in your area to service your internet do so without hesitation. read more

So this moring at 10:30 am I give this company all call cause no one showed up yesterday. I ask them if someone will be coming out today as instructed by the automated system yesterday. Well not a big surprise they have no clue what I'm talking about. I called three times and got three different answers. Update it is 3pm and no one has shown up. A manager should be calling me in 24 -48 hours and supposedly the tech is still on the way. I am very disappointed in the service I received today. I ordered a line drop for Internet and it was scheduled 8am-10am it is now 10:40 and no one has shown up. At first the representative I called and spoke to said they called dispatch and they are just running behind and well you just going to have to wait. I asked to speak to a manager and was placed on hold and after 25 minutes. I was told that the supervisor will call you sometime today or in the next 24 hours. I am currently on the phone waiting for tech support. I've been on Hold for over 30 minutes now. I'm in an area of NH where Consolidated C. is my only option. Trust me, I've looked for others! So the biggest reason that a 30+ min wait time is a problem for me, is that it took less than a minute to reach a sales person last week when I wanted to upgrade to fiber (finally available!). Unfortunately, now the phone line stopped working after 3 days. ‍ That time difference just shouldn't be the case! Obviously they need to reallocate resources to tech support. But, having pretty much a monopoly on service in this area allows for their customer reviews to be an average of 1.... Just imagine if it were possible to rate them 0... The installation was racked with problems. 10am-12pm was my selected install time. Which I thought at the time was nice to be able to pick such a defined window! I should have known that was silly of me to think that was going to realistically happen lol.... 10-12 turned into 12:30 - 3:30. Very nice installer and 99% of the time, very professional! He was on personal phone calls while "waiting for things" but it was a Saturday so I can forgive that a little as overall he was good! If you have any other options for service @ ~250 Mbps download speed, then try them first! I would not recommend Consolidated for any services at this point! Have had the worst costumer service from this company. There is a "paper fee" that is listed on the bill which I have questioned from the start since I have only ever received 1 actual paper bill / the others have been drawn automatically from my account. Each time that I've brought this to their attention they have been extremely rude and claim that the bills are being generated and it's the post office that's not getting them to me. I spoke with the post office (wonderful people/ great service), and they say that I would receive any mail sent through them. Stowe cable; you SUCK stop ripping people off for $2 a month. Stop blaming the post office for your incompetence. Would never recommend this company to anyone. 1 star is to many. read more

I don't know what's going on in their billing department, but last night at about 8 PM I received an email of my bill. Approximately twenty minutes later, I received another email telling me my bill was due in 2 days. A normal business would give notice of a bill being due thirty days prior to the due date. When Consolidated bought Fairpoint I saw customer service absolutely tank. And the quality of the internet provided. I work from home, and my internet was recently down for 2 full weeks, leading me to have to rent office space in Keene. Since service got restored, I am losing the connection 4-5 times a day! And there is NOTHING they will do about it. I have now also lost my phone line. I live in an area with no cell service, so if I need 911 I am in BIG trouble. I work from home. I have a small business outside of my 9-5 as well. This is SEVERELY affecting me in every way. I need reliable internet and phone, and Consolidated is not reliable. Unfortunately, I am stuck with them, as there are no options besides them. Their support is terrible. I lost phone service a week ago and they have informed me that they will not be fixing it until the end of the month. I have no way to contact them about the internet issues now. Customer service is a joke; essentially everyone pretty much lies to you to get you off the phone, and then you have to call numerous times until you're ready to explode. And they always promise to call you back, but they never do. And whatever ticket they open for you, always seems to get lost, and they never provide you with a way to track the ticket via email or text. They don't even know of the concept of robo calls or emails to inform their clients of outages! How backwards is that? If you rely heavily upon the internet for remote work, education, entertainment or home management, then stay away from Consolidated, even if they offer fiber connection (which is no great shakes). If this is your only option, then you have my sincerely condolences. Having used Consolidate for about 6 years (because they are one of the very few allowed to contract service in our subdivision), I must agree with 95% of the reviews here that only give them one star, and many who wrote they preferred no stars. So, so much wasted time with this mediocre service, repeated outages of internet, slow speeds and buffering. Inexcusable bad service year after year. I live in a rural area and have moved around a bit. Had a few different ISPs. Spectrum was by and far the best and most consistent. Consolidated (Fair Point) is literally the absolute worst company I've ever dealt with. The tech support MAY know something if you get the right person, but most of them don't know anything other than telling you to reset your modem. Inconsistent internet that goes out every afternoon, multiple service tickets with no actual results. I guess I could add that I went to school for networking communications... I had my service moved from my previous home to my current one, and was told the payment would be the same and the current contract would end as normal. When I needed to cancel the service, it had been over 2.5 years since I had signed a 1 year contract. I was charged $120 to cancel a contract that I supposedly agreed to in January to save $13 a month, knowing I would not need the service past July. I spoke to a representative and a supervisor who repeatedly spoke over me and stated he could not help me in any way because someone wrote a note that I said it was fine. Consolidated Communications is a scam company exploiting rural internet users with poor service, hoping they won't know the difference. I'm paying $70/month for a 10mb/1mb DSL service, and I'm literally 1000ft from the service point on the fiber line. Sometimes it is 10/1, but frequently they downgrade the service to 768k/128k without telling me, while still charging the same amount. I see latency from 300ms - 18000ms, and packet loss around 10% at times. It is severely, and intentionally degraded service. read more

Years later I'm providing an update that this is still in fact a terrible company but unfortunately the only one available in my area. I live on US RT 1 and my internet speed is 1mbps, it's supposed to be 3 which isn't much better. When the man came to install it, he stated I should be able to have 100mbps due to my location and the fact that I'm less than half a mile away from one of the consolidated internet outposts (Idk what they're actually called) I called to ask about high speed internet and was told 3mbps was the fastest offered in my area. 2 years later still no faster options. I would never use this service again. They advertise cheaper rates and lure you away from existing carrier and you get nowhere near the service levels advertised. The service is shoddy and the equipment is old.. this past month our internet connection was down a dozen times a day. Called and opened a service request, scheduled a date for the tech to come look at it and they were a no-show. The following week I get a call from a tech who was rude and blamed my internet dropping on me using too much "upload bandwidth"... while I was on the phone I had my performance monitor running showing network usage for the "up" portion never climbing beyond a fraction of the capacity. His response was "so.. does that mean you don't want us to come out..?" I told him forget it we are going to cancel.. Called today and cancelled and were informed we will be charged $350 until we return their router and set top box.. that's insane.. So we have this extorted charge until we can mail them back their gear..and when we asked to drop it off (so we can be sure it's actually received by someone and we get a receipt) they said no.. because you apparently can get COVID when dropping off equipment when you cancel your account... but not from service techs who can still come in your home to hookup their new accounts. read more

I am only giving Consolidated Communiations Maine 1 star because I couldn't choose "0". I have never experienced worse service from any service provider in any city in the US that I have ever lived! The download speed on what they call internet service is .33! Yes, you read that right- 0.33!! The phone has been dead for 2 days!! When I talked to their service representative about the internet speed, she told me that we were lucky that we had what we had" in our area!! Seriously, that's what she said to me!! There is no other provider in this area, so they have a monopoly- everyone is trapped with them with no where to go!! The home has a 90 year old with a heart monitor connected through the internet using the phone line as backup. Since neither work, his life has been placed at risk -- his heart monitor isn't working and he cannot use his phone to call for help. I called Consolidated Community on his behalf to report the phone was out -- they promised a medical escalation. They called later that day to say they would be at the home for repair by the end of the day. They did not come. I called to follow up and the answer was, "that happens" and that they get held up and can't keep their appointments. They promised service the next day. They never showed up, nor did they call. So now the home has been without a telephone or internet for 2 days with no follow whatsoever from Consolidated. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened to this homeowner and his neighbors! This is more of the rule for service standard from Consolidated Communications than the exception! As a matter of fact, they have a Google review rating under 2.0 the last time I checked! It is a travesty that this company is allowed to do business in Maine and prey upon the elderly community! Shame on them and shame on the state of Maine for allowing them to do business in the state!! The Better Business Bureau and the licensing agencies in Maine need to conduct a forensic assessment of the business practices of Consolidated Communications. read more

I've had terrible service from this company since they acquired Fairpoint. They are the only option in our area and they only offer piddling slow internet. I kept getting kicked off my wifi. After many calls to tech support could not fix the issue they finally sent out a tech. He put in a new modem but it didn't help. Finally one of their higher ups called me and said I need to upgrade my service from 10mb to 20mb. That's the most they offer in our area. A new phone line must be installed and it will cost me to install it. I acquiesced. They would be out in 3 weeks. I waited. They called yesterday - they will be out between 8:30 and 5pm today. I could make no plans. The tech called me at 9:30 this morning - on his way, will be here in 30 minutes. It's now 3 and a half hours later and he's not here.
