There were lots of locally made treats in vending machines and I got the macaroons which came out nice and chilled. There was a nice staff member there who helped everyone out with the vending machines too. There was some "I heart NY" merch in shirts and mugs too. I'd love if they added Adirondack merch too though. Lots of seating, Adirondack-style chairs to stretch your legs out on if you're taking a break from driving. There is also a kids playground and a dog area as well as a small area for everyone else to walk around. Overall, it was a great and easy stop!

Last night 9/30...9pm) a mom and her young son around 8 years old, with autism, was driven to the Blue Moon Motel late to check in. This mother went in with her son to check in and the receptionist refused to let them check in. She was waiting in the lobby while the desk person looked her up in the computer ... and she instead said verbatim.. she was "not going to be able to help her... cuz her kid was like 'that'"....mom said "like what? He's autistic" and the desk person said "oh we can tell that.. and their destructive, and we don't tolerate that here" Mom left in tears with her son and started to contact friends and family for help. Thankfully the driver stayed right with her trying to console her and offer support to the son while mom figured things out. As they were outside that same woman came to the door...proceeded to shut the blinds, lock door, turn off lights and turn off the "open" side as they stay out in the parking lot. I am all for businesses refusing service if they feel they need to for whatever reason but THIS ...this is disgusting and the community needs to know exactly what type of establishment this is..complete and utter discrimination and just nastiness. Their website states "family oriented"...and "family friendly"...this is such a lie and they need to be called out for it The mom and the son were able to find another hotel that was amazing and offered so much kindness thanks to the driver that stayed with them. If this uber driver left ...this poor woman would have been stranded in a dark parking lot!!! Pleade share the crap out of this and express your absolute disgust as to how this was handled. Today, we rented a canoe from the Rancho Pines Campground office. It was a very quick walk to the…read moreoffice which is also a little store with things you may need while camping. You can rent mountain bikes, canoes, pedal carts, and inner tubes for little money. The nice owner was happy to explain that you should paddle up river as there you will find two little islands and the end of the northern portion of rapids. We grabbed four life jackets and two paddles. Short walk down the hill, picked up our canoe, and walked a little further down the hill to the launching area. It was an absolute beautiful canoe ride north with little resistance against the current. When we reached the two little islands, the kids and us ventured around and swam. We saw lots of birds, fish, and even turtles. We paddled to the rapids and walked around the rocks. So many trout and other fish. Water was a tad cold. It was such a great time. Paddle easily back with the current. Dragged the canoe back up the hill and returned the life jackets and paddles. The owner asked how our trip was and happy to hear the details. Next, we had a fire to cook our hotdogs and corn on the cob. Ate and read our books is the best weather ever. Then, we immediately jumped into the swimming pool for some more water fun. Everyone around here is so kind and happy. Highly recommend this for single, couple, and family camping fun. Peace and quiet with a little relaxing adventure thrown in.
