When it wouldn't start, I called the toll-free number and was on hold for over an hour before anyone picked up. I followed every troubleshooting step the rep walked me through, but we couldn't get it working. The rep noted on my account that there was a problem with the generator and told me to speak with the front desk when I returned the RV. Without the generator, I had no A/C for the trip -- a serious problem for four days in an RV. When I returned it, the front desk had me stand by while they looked into it. The mechanic came in and confirmed there was a problem, telling me directly: "I did a master reset on the generator and it's working now." So the issue was real and acknowledged by their own staff. The woman at the front desk was pleasant and professional, but she said her hands were tied and there was nothing she could do. I pointed out that I'd paid for four full days of an RV that was supposed to function -- especially the A/C. Her only offer was a $100 credit toward buying an RV from them in the future. I was blown away -- and not in a good way. I paid for a working RV and didn't get one, and their idea of making it right was a discount contingent on giving them more of my money. How could I ever rent from them again? I won't.

He even called me to say that he had put the van aside for me and that people were interested and wanted to offer the van to me first. I couldn't miss out so I finally booked. What a guy. Picking up the Van was great and easy. I showed up and Todd wasn't there but Tom is there working hard to make everything work and polish all the details on the cleaning. He takes the time for the tour, gives tips, friendly and helpful in every way even under the immense heat and more obnoxious loads of questions. On the road: I never had an issue but if i had some concerns or forgot how to work something, Todd would always answer or call back shortly after. I felt safe knowing that the Van is very well maintained and that I had someone REALLY there if I needed it. The Pleasure Way Vans that are available are top of the line comfort for these camper vans, and it was really enjoyable to travel in it. We did 3500 miles and did amazing things and stayed at amazing places. All this trip wouldn't of been as special without our home on wheels. The vehicle had a missing dipstick tube, a real safety issue their own mechanic waved off with "just don't insert it too far." A propane leak forced me to shut off the system mid-trip, which meant no refrigeration for my sister-in-law's insulin and three unplanned nights in hotels. I thought that would have been the hard part but turns out that was the easier part of our trip. When my dad returned the vehicle, the woman working the counter refused to even look at the paperwork, told him "that's not my problem," when he described the issues and wouldn't give me her name. When he started taking photos of the RV to document the return, she ran out, shouted profanity, and shoved HIM, then called 911 and told the dispatcher he was intoxicated and threatening her. None of that was true. Two Downey PD officers responded, and did not cite, arrest, or asked him to leave. In fact, they asked if he wanted to file a charge of assault. I later learned she is the actual owner of this Xpress Auto Rental location, not just an employee, which makes the behavior even harder to excuse, since there's no manager above her to hold this accountable. My dad is in his 70s and it was really hard to witness this business owner screaming, pushing and falsely claiming untrue things. Cruise America corporate reviewed my complaint and refunded the full amount we were owed, which tells you they took this seriously. I waited to review until the complaint was settled but if you are considering renting here, know that this is who you'll be dealing with, and does someone like that really deserve your money.
