I rented twice here. They charge $300 deposit when you book. Then you have to call to schedule the pick up time between 1-4 PM. They go through the RV to mark the meters of gas, propane, sewage, etc. It was annoying to me at first that the gas wasn't full or the water wasn't full, but I guess you just have to do it yourself after you drive the RV away. The people working here have been friendly. Driving an RV took me a while to get used to. The orientation video on Youtube is long but helpful. Everything in the video is exactly the same as IRL. My group rented two RVs from this company. RV 1 was picked up around 2pm and RV 2 was picked up around 4:40pm. RV 1 had a lot of issues- the carbon monoxide detector and generator wasn't working properly. A lot of the plugs didn't work either. RV 2 didn't have as much problems, but they gave us a scare. They close at 5pm and when we got there at 4:40pm, the whole place was empty and no one answered the phone. Finally around 5:15pm, they came back and said they were cleaning it up. The refrigerator was also not working properly and we spent some time fixing that. I suggest arriving early to check your RV. read more

The staff doesn't seem to care, but aside from that... We rented from them and had a problem with no gas at the stove. Also had a problem with no electricity when the generator was running. Had to call the help line twice, but got it all fixed. The problem was, we were going to be off grid for a week, and is we hadn't discovered these problem before we were "off grid" it would have been a terrible week without these things. I also made sure to fill up the propane before we left... this is something I didn't feel I should have to do. You can't just get someone to refill your RV propane tank. Rented a 30' RV for a trip up North to Big Sur. During the trip up the engine began making a winding noise. We reported it to Cruise America and were told we should be good for our three day trip and just continue driving. We then checked our tire pressure at our first stop and found both front tires were completely worn on the inside. When we hooked up to water it began to leak from under the RV. We found water was leaking from the interior storage area and soaked all our firewood and items stored. When we brought these to the attention of the company at turn in, we were given excuses and told things can be missed by "human error". Absolutely no compensation or price adjustment was given for these inconveniences and extreme hazards. It definitely appears the RVs from this location are being constantly pushed through with no preventive maintenance or checks between rentals. BE EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS WHEN RENTING! read more

I ended up cancelling my trip 3 days before my trip due to work schedule change situation, and realized that the cancellation fee ($300) is more than the entire trip's reservation fee ($285), which is ridiculous. Customer service did not make any attempt to help me neither receptive to my complaint and suggestion to reconsider their cancellation policy to better customer service. Especially for people who serve in social services and public health. The RV was going to be our place for: sleeping, food preparations, eating, dressing room, and living for the 3 nights during the weekend celebrations, events, and festivities. On 11/11/22 - the Downey Cruise America location successfully ruined our entire planned trip, participation, and experience for our daughter's wedding. On October 26, 2022, we reserved online, an RV rental for 3 nights starting November 11, returning November 14, 2022. The pick-up and drop off location was: Xpress Auto Rentals 8460 TELEGRAPH RD DOWNEY, CA 90240. On 11/6/22 (562) 806-2541 We noted a very large crack across the driver's side windshield; the crack went from the top of the glass to the bottom & another crack in the windshield on the passenger's side. After consulting 2 police officers from two different city's within the LA County Sheriff's department & looking on the internet, about the law of driving with a cracked windshield, all of which confirmed what we had thought, it is ILLEGAL to drive with an cracked windshield. "California's traffic laws prohibit driving with a cracked windshield. State law does not permit drivers to operate a vehicle when their vision is impaired. State of California does not permit you to drive a vehicle if driver's vision is impaired. Cracked front or back windshield can get you a citation regardless of crack size or position. California's Vehicle Code (VC) Section 26710: Defective Windshields and Rear Windows" Also, see attached vehicle code 24010 - rental cars must be safe and sound. Having been presented with the legality of NOT being permitted to drive the RV off the lot, the men offered us other RV's, all of which the refrigerators were not working. There was not one RV available that was in complete working rental condition. This was particularly frustrating in that we reserved and paid for an RV that meets legal safety standards and is proven as road worthy. It is the responsibility of Cruise America to rent road legal vehicles, yet, this location clearly does not adhere to this legal or ethical standard of practice. In fact, management's blatant disregard for customer safety was fundamentally apparent in their interactions with other customers at the location during our visit: There was a mother and daughter renting an RV ahead of us, and despite the RV they were renting having a "low tire pressure" light on, the Xpress Auto employees told them it was perfectly okay to drive it all the way to Utah and back with the light on. The employees continued to be rude, aggressive, belligerent, and unprofessional. We arrived extremely late at the end of the first night of events, missing out on the festivities for the wedding, once again due to Cruise America and the Downey locations lack of competence. We won't ever get back the time and lost memories we should have had with our daughter on her important day, we finally arrived at Joshua Tree after 11:00 pm when the first night of fun was over as well as the rehearsal dinner that we missed, all due to the negligence and dismissive practices of Cruise America. Overall experience was pretty good. Price: Wasn't as high as I originally thought. I paid $280 for 4 nights with an online promo code that I found online FRD300. Of course the price can go up depending on generator, propane use, miles overage, tax 10%, etc. Mileage: With the RV it comes with 300 miles. If you go over, it's $.35 extra each mile. I also bought an extra 100 miles for $35.00 since I estimated how far I was going round trip. RV size: I got the standard size (C25) that sleeps 5. There was only 3 of us so it was perfect. Security Deposit: The security deposit that they charge when you check-in is $500. When I returned the RV, minus the miles I went over I got most of it back. I was worried they might make up stuff or find something to not return my deposit luckily I had no issues. I only bring this up, is because I've experienced it with a different company and oh man what a headache that is. Just be sure to go through the RV thoroughly before driving off the lot & noting was damage was already there if any. Sewage: I drained both the black water & gray water at the campsite before returning the RV. However when I brought the RV back, I was told the cap is supposed to be left open and both valves opened. Luckily when they checked and opened the valves very little came out so they did not charge me for dumping fees. Thank goodness but something for all you that are new to renting rv from here to keep in mind. Cleanliness: When we got the RV, there was some sand on the over hang bed and in some corners. It could of been cleaner but wasn't too bad. I probably returned it cleaner than I got it. Gas: When I received the RV, it would of been nice if it was already at full tank. It was at 1/4 tank so a little disappointing that I already had to gas up. Maybe something they can improve on. Customer service: I worked with 2 different gentleman, one when checking in and another when returning the rv. Both gentlemen were professional, unfortunately I didn't catch there name's. I don't think either of them were wearing name tags or I would of remembered. The mechanics or service gentleman was professional and very friendly. I complained that the front windshield was extremely dirty and full of bug splatter. He cleaned it right away and asked if everything else was fine before we left. Must be better options out there. If zero ratings were an option, that's what I'd rate them on customer service/relationship and 2 stars maybe 2.5 on the quality of their vehicle. (Go to #6 for quality of vehicle. All other points are based on the quality of experience). 1. They tried giving us filthy dirty vehicle (inside & outside). We had to push them to clean out at least the trunk part as the dumping hose was out and filth was smeared all over. Quite gross but it was too late for us to cancel, fight for full refund and then find another rental. 2. On our entire trip we didn't use the restroom or sinks within the vehicle as we were not comfortable doing the dumping ourselves (first-timers!). At the time of return, the rude staff guy first yelled at us for not leaving the valves open saying it's THE LAW and what not. And then went ahead & pulled out the toilet valve and magically a small amount of liquid came out - from the toilet??!!! How??!! We did not even use it! When I exclaimed, the rude guy yelled at me saying - "if it's not yours then whose is it?" Dude that's for you to know. You're basically calling your customer a liar. We honestly didn't use the RV toilet, I can't say that enough!!! Read #3 for why my logical brain thinks we got scammed. 3. We were not told that we had to leave the valves open at the time of return, while we were picking up, and were explicitly asked NOT to touch the valves unless we're dumping. Being first timers (and they knew we were) we were inclined to following as we were told. My question now, why didn't you let us open the valves to check that you really actually cleaned the dump when you gave us the vehicle, if you were going to be so finicky about it later?! At that time, they were friendly and it was more like in good faith and the sensor light showing it empty and that's all. Now I feel if we did check the valves back then we would've found out they didn't do the dumping (just like they didn't clean) or at least didn't empty it completely. Lesson learned! And perhaps their sensor does not (or is calibrated not to) read tiny levels of liquid. But anyhow, they charged us full dumping fee for half bucket of that magical fluid. 4. Their sensor for propane also showed false readings. We gave them more propane than they gave us which was fine by us but we did call them out for defective sensors. The rude staff guy was non-receptive to any feedback. 5. Pet policy: we were okay paying a fee for the pet, we always do. Even though we vacuumed the whole vehicle before returning, we did expect some fee. We were just not aware that it'd be a flat non negotiable $250. So it was just a normal 'whoa!!' on our end, and not saying that we won't pay it. The rude guy interpreted it as a no and the rest was unnecessary. 6. Vehicle itself was VERY noisy, with old interiors and not very responsive brakes. The mileage was quite poor, not sure if all RVs are like that or just this one. Also they gave us Cruise Canada, again not sure if that line is maintained the same way as Cruise America or is older models. On the call they said their vehicles are 2018 and up for 2022 but ours seemed pretty old. 7. Another absurd thing, while we were going through all this with this weird guy, suddenly an old lady comes in from her cabin and says "don't scream please" and that's only when we started to talk back after listening to her staff's BS on every tiny thing. Does she have selective hearing and is totally deaf to her staff's yelling! For half an hour we were hearing this guy's rant and she comes out only when we talk back? I tried making my point with Action Reaction Principal but she just went in loop and shut the door at us. If I were the manager I'd be more interested in finding out what's all the noise about rather than just pop in randomly say something and leave. That's condescending and opinionated, and odd! To wrap up, our trip was great, we had a lot of fun. We would definitely NOT recommend Cruise America (esp. at Downey) to anyone and would explore RVshare or something else in future and prioritize finding a well maintained vehicle with good service. On our entire trip, we barely just saw 1-2 more of these among the hundreds of RVs we came across. That goes to say it's not the most popular choice. We thought we were saving money with Cruise America, but ended up paying about the same during turn in, plus the unpleasant interaction. Not worth anyone's time, energy and buck. read more

Rented a large RV, and while drivable was mechanically strained (black oil, worn down suspension, etc.) The RV's are gassoline powered, and we couldn't wonder if diesel powered trucks wouldn't have been better for hauling. The worst experience ever! Never again will I step foot into these RVS! The whole trips was just bad due to a nasty smell! It made all of us sick and nauseous. What we thought was a gas leak smell, turns out it was the septic tank that had a leak !! Yes!! This whole time we were smelling feces! We contacted them, and the lady said that all the RVS smell like that !! That's ridiculous!! Also the shower door was broken, everything was just dirty!! Our interaction began well. I asked them to call us if we could pick up early and they called when they said they would. Unforunately, they told me we could pick up at 10am, one our early, but when I showed up, I was told that they had told me 11am. This was untrue. This was frustrating and we had to sit and wait for the rental to be made available. They did try to get us into the RV a little before 11am in the end. Unfortunately, someone had stolen the catalytic converter of the RV we were to rent. We were totally sympathetic to this predicament (not their fault), but our rep was in a foul mood from there on out and began to rush the process. He got us another van, but we were rushed out. And as first-time RV renters, we wanted a more detailed walk-through. Again, I understand it was a frustrating morning, but I believe that service professionals have to put on a brave face for customers. We did have to take a backup RV with a torn-up vent on top which was very noisy on the freeway. The trip was great, though, and the RV and hookups generally worked well. The hose hookup was slightly dented and required us to use pliers to attach and remove the hook up each time. Luckily, I brought my toolkit. This might have been one of the things we would have noticed -- and perhaps they could have fixed -- with a more thorough orientation. The return was the most frustrating part of the journey. We dumped the waste tanks as required, but when they checked the sensor, it said the black water tank was two-thirds full. There was no way that could have been true and we pleaded our case. They made us return to the dump and it turned out it was a faulty sensor in the end. We were also charged for the extra 10ish miles. We decided not to fight that particular charge ($3.50ish) because, as you'll see below, we just wanted to get out there by a certain point. In the office, they tried to hit us with additional charges. First, they wanted to charge us a cleaning fee. I told them it was cleaner when we returned it then when we picked it up (which was true). They also tried to hit us with a propane charge despite our returning it at the same level as when we left. My perception was that they were trying to wring any extra dollar they could from us. Renter beware. I'd rent from Cruise America again, but I'd definitely look for a different licensee. read more

Very frustrating experience at this location, and most importantly, with a failed customer service experience with the Parent Company. We arrived to pick up our rental, and after about a 30 minute delay, were shown a filthy, tattered motorhome. I'll add photos if an option allows. Mold in the refrigerator, spatter in the microwave, hair and filth in the bathroom and shower, empty pop bottles and candy wrappers behind the front seats. I'll spare you more, my wife was unwilling to re-enter the MH, shuddering as she left. We attempted to reach out to customer service, to request that our rental contract be switched to another location where we had rented before and had a much better experience. Cruise America Customer Service refused to assist us, citing "Our interest is to protect the revenue of our location". Epic fail. We were left to our own devices, dealing with the original location, who brought out another MH, this one newer, without the frayed edge trim on the dinette table, but nearly as filthy as the first. After several hours (over 3), and causing us to miss the traffic window to get out of town that same day, we left with a really bad feeling to start our highly anticipated vacation. At home we scrubbed the motorhome, another 2 hours lost, and have now returned it, in incredibly better condition than we received it. We returned it a day early, but were still charged the full duration, and a dump fee was added, "because it shows 1/4 full", the lowest indicator light was lit. It showed that same reading when we picked it up, but chose not to argue the point. Good riddance, the experience is behind us. I'd add that the staff at this location were pleasant enough, but the location is incredibly poorly run. There was a gal present in the adjoining office to the rental counter, who was in ear shot of the conversation, but never engaged us in any way. Another fail. Even so, I'd give them a 3. The 1 star is because we are still really upset with their corporate customer service, who made it clear that our interests were not on their radar. This company really let us down. read more

The staff and everything here are nice and well trained and seemed super bored. I felt bad for them. They guessed that it may be the season or the gas hikes inflation preventing the RVs from being rented. It was a totally full lot with only me renting and returning! Indeed it is expensive! What you really need to know is that its not any cheaper renting VS staying in 5 star hotel with an escalade too boot when you take everything into consideration on planning your trip. Plan on spending on average depending on how you travel about 500/600 a day. That's RV, GAS (can ave about 150-200 a day easy!) RV site all the incidentals and everything. Now all that's just fine and dandy but you need to take a deep breath when you pull the trigger on these things. Its a lot to kind of manage. If you have a co pilot that is REALLY gonna help you change the poo hose and plug it in and all that on and on. WELLIts gonna help with your decision here. If just YOU micro managing the whole lot with people waiting on you and stuff.. IT on the needs DONT DO IT! This is well suited for a big family, pets and the whole posse. The bigger one is nicer but cost more in gas than the smaller which are more expensive. You probably end up paying the same. Pros: The shower works great, the videos are super helpful. When you are at a RV site you can just plug the AC in and all the appliances work great. Its all relatively comfy inside. Cons: This thing is LOUD even at 60MPHOUR. Its pushing a brick through the wind folks. My ears are still ringing from my trip. You will have to shout to talk. It rattles and vibrates BIGTIME. You will be a little numb after a trip. I can't say i would rent again. its just too expensive and SO LOUD. However, this thing would ROCK at an all day festival type deal. Now THAT might where this thing shines or convention or something where you don't drive far. Get 5 peeps to chip in and go to that all dayer in style! read more

Our first time doing the RV, we opted for Cruise America, since we saw many of their RV around the roads. However what we end up getting is a defective old unit. Water monitor system was not working properly for the gray and black water, if you don't know what that means you will find out really fast when it backs up the drain. It wasn't going to be good after making appointment to pick up on a Friday at 3pm and end up there is a 1 hour delay due to maintenance issue on the RV, also we were promised a 2019 or 2020 RV but end up being assigned a 2016, which felt really dated. We also had a bad water hose for the hook up which leaked water, i know we can replace it for a credit and we can call the 1800# but we were in the middle of nowhere and there was no cell signal. We made it work and end up using the showers & restroom at the camp. Overall we loved the RV experience and i don't think we can ever go back to tent camping, due to the luxury presented of having a RV. Cruise America offered all the basic necessities of starting out and information, just the RV itself was not up to par and the delivery process had a snag to it. If we were promised the RV at the right time and the newer working unit, i think we would be super happy. Things happen and you just need to adapt and pay. Hope it gets better. read more

Received the RV in good condition except for cleanliness. Took it home and scrubbed the dinette (had large sticky spots on it), tub (pubic hair), toilet (---- stains), stove (crumbs and grease all over), dinette seating (crumbs all over when we lifted the seat cushions). I would have wiped with bleach anyway, but this added quite a bit of gross-ness to my pre-trip prep. When we finished our trip I did the same cleaning, hence returning the RV in BETTER shape than I received it. However, the kicker is this: when I returned it the guy said I have to charge you for propane and then give you money back for the mileage. Fair enough. Until I got home and realized he ALSO charged me $50 for housekeeping. Huh? If anything he should have PAID ME for the housekeeping I did pre-trip! I called same day to fix this charge, and someone took a message to call me back because he was "busy outside with the RVs". Dude never bothered to call me back. Next day I called and a different employee looked up this issue and couldn't find any legit reason to charge me. So he reversed the charges. I don't know that I would come back here due to their shady business. Carson site is more of the HQ and I would expect better service from them. If it's all the same, you might just head down there. read more

I usually rent with the one in Carson. That place I never had any issue with . For Easter I rented with Downey because the rates were lower. That meant that the quality was also lower but I didn't realize that at the time. The bathroom door didn't open correctly, and we would get stuck often. I don't believe they filled it with water all the because , no one had showered yet and we had ran out of water. The Rv was also given to us dirty and the 12 volt to charge your phone didn't work except for one. The GFCI outlet alway went out even if nothing was plugged in . I gave it back cleaner than I had received it. With covid too they should have it sanitized it to the max. They was hairs in the shower. Half of the shelves were broken. The windows were dirty . I would not rent from again, but from the one Carson . read more

I want to first give Rosa a huge shout out for making my renting experience so fast and easy. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to rent an rv. The prices are great compared to other company's or independent contractors renting out their own personal RV. RV's are all very well maintained of course like anything else there's a few tears and scrapes here and there they are NOT PERFECT just like you and I. They are Very clean and spacious. I rented the standard rv which was there only choice at this location. It fits up to 5 people comfortably but You can definitely squeeze in 7 adults or even 6 adults and 2 children. There's lots of room to store items so don't worry if you're an over packer. One thing I will tell you guys is to please leave the valves to the black water and grey water open after dumping. When we returned the rv Rosa asked us if we did that. We of course said no because that step was not in the orientation video and I taught it would be illegal to leave the valves open while we drove. Well apparently it is not illegal to drive with the valves open just to let them air out. I won't forget that step next time. I will 10 out of 10 recommend this place to everyone. read more

Amazing Customer Service!!!! Reserved two RVs for myself and a co worker for a very important event. On pickup day, our flight from NYC was delayed 6 hours. We notified the business as soon as possible to inform them. The manager went the extra mile and stayed around after closing time for us to be able to pick up the RVs and avoid having to wait until they reopened on the following day to sign our the RVs. My husband and I rented a Standard RV for two one way trips, between Evanston, Il and Los Angeles, CA and just returned. For our return rental, we picked up the RV at the Downey office of Cruise America. The young man who worked there was very helpful and informative and had, per my request, turned on the fridge/freezer that morning so that it would be well on its way to getting cold ahead of our trip. At our first pickup, in Indiana, the woman at that tiny place gave us a roll of toilet paper and some kind of liquid pod to put in the toilet to keep it fresh smelling...we didn't get the toilet paper from the Downey office, but we had our own so we didn't really need it. Perhaps he had already put the freshness pod in the toilet, I don't know. One thing he did NOT do, which he should have, was properly note that the gas tank was at 3/4. It got recorded as full, and that was incorrect. You have to bring it back with the gas tank at the same level as when you pick up the RV. There was some issue with the propane tank level as well, that we didn't realize, so we had to pay a fee upon our return, which we did not have to pay upon our return of the first RV...maybe he hadn't properly filled the propane tank, I'm not sure. So there were a couple small glitches. But the RV worked, and all the systems were a go. That was most important to me. The fridge/freezer stayed nice and cold, the AC worked well, the hot water was great for the shower. The bed is not very comfortable, and one thing renters should know is that the floor in the cab of the vehicle, where you sit during your travel time, is not adequately insulated, and it gets very, very hot under your feet. The engine never got overheated in either RV, so I believe this is a design flaw that should be corrected. It was exceedingly uncomfortable during our long days of driving. The floor was so hot that you felt your feet were burning, through your shoes...if I had known about this, I would have purchased two floor mats to put on top of each other, for each side of the cab. They really should insulate them better! Another thing to know about RV travel is how noisy it is. It's essentially like driving a truck, you hear all kinds of jangling and clanking and the noise level is so high that listening to music or podcasts is challenging because you have to turn the volume up hugely to hear it over the noise of the RV. I found that tiring. It was easy to handle, though, and the side rear view mirrors work very well to help you keep track of staying in your lane. It would be nice if they changed the color of the interior so it's not so relentlessly taupe throughout. It looks quite drab. A little contrast and perhaps lighter colored cabinets would have perked it up a bit. But again, everything worked, there was very good storage space inside and outside, and it got us to our destinations, both ways, without a hitch. read more

We rented a standard 25ft RV from Downey. The unit was practically new, clean, and in great working condition. Due to Covid-19, we still did a thorough cleanup before heading out on our 2-week trip, this was just for our peace of mind. Pick-up and drop-off went smoothly. This was our second time in an RV, so we were mostly familiar with the operations, but it's still beneficial to watch the online videos about the unit beforehand. It would be nice if there was a print version or a tips guide in the vehicle, especially as it relates to all the clean water/greywater/black water gauges. Our grey/black water gauges never showed as empty, but we kept good track of the usage. A 24-hour technical assistance number is available. Toward the end of our trip, the smoke alarm started beeping in the middle of night, so we had to call the 24-hour service for assistance. Overall, traveling in the RV was a great experience. We would definitely rent again from Cruise America. read more
