Love that this is a LGBTQ-positive space with a beautiful photo op area in the back and lots of cool political signs and magazines. However, the coffee itself was not the best. I got a latte with huckleberry and vanilla, and the huckleberry tasted really fake and too sweet. read more

I always make it a point to stop here when in Seaside. The service is friendly and the drinks and food are good to great. The feeling of the place is a much needed inclusive space to the area. Though this area seems like it is starting to become more friendly to all people, this place was definitely the pioneer. I also love the community type closet stuff I saw on my last visit. What a fun quirky coffee shop! Walked in to the barista playing punk rock on a Sunday morning and it was awesome! The specials are unique and imaginative but my Lucy's Vector (blended white espresso and amaretto) was good drinking. The vibes!!! I was visiting from out of town and the name immediately caught my eye. I took the short walk from my hotel to the shop with my dog. The staff gave him a treat and didn't seem to be too bothered by his barking (Sorry!!). The Chai was yummy and the bagel was perfectly toasted. I don't like a ton of cream cheese, but I could easily wipe off the excess. Thankful for a funky, affirming, safe space in the small coastal town of Seaside!!! read more

Always make a stop at Controversial Coffee when visiting Seaside! It's a nice coffee shop tucked inside a little nook on the main strip. The team working there was very kind to my partner while she ordered and gave her service doggie a little snack too. The room is decorated in artwork and they have a cute little shop of goods you can buy stickers and stuff from. Coffee was okay but I should have researched my choice. Very woke and, frankly, a little creepy.

A fun, eclectic place for a Java or tea, whatever you fancy. I got a matcha latte with alternative milk and thought it was great. They were really busy and the line was at least a dozen people deep but there was plenty of room to stand and wait in the communal area by the inverted picture business. Funky art and antiques to look at while you wait too. There are a few seats and tables to use after picking up your coffee but not much space. More of a get your coffee and go place. read more

What a great place! Amidst the tourist/family themed shops downtown is this funky, queer, punk little coffee shop that I LOVED. True community vibe, great cool drinks and pastries. I visit a lot of coffee shops and it's rare to find one like this which isn't just the same old, same old. Thanks to the staff at Controversial for a unique, homey space. Welcoming colorful atmosphere. Barista was very friendly and made great drinks. They use and sell coffee from a local roaster in Cannon Beach. I got a decaf vanilla latte and it was delicious.
