The turn around here has been our DON, Kiim, and she has truly taken in the problems of the residents and has been a great "in between " The residents and their families can trust she has their loved ones as priority.

Everyone pitches in to help where needed--you see that most clearly when help is short in the dining room-- aides and activities people, guest tours person and even the front desk lady pitch in. Most of all, the executive director Dennis and the new supervisor over the aides, JD, are out there leading by example. Are we missing a nurses today/tonite? Dennis Is also a nurse, and he'll step in, day or night, and JD does the same with the aides--and no complaints--they do what needs to be done, and if there is garbage to take out or a mess on the floor that needs to be taken care of---it is, and no task is 'beneath' them--all pitch in when they see the effort from the top down. Dennis also seems to be holding everyone to a high standard, and JD is following, and the staff I interact with, almost all already excellent. are stepping up and responding more quickly to my call button, and other needs. I know that finding staff is hard, but that's true everywhere ( from things aides have shared about other facilities.} New aides and nurses are arriving now, tho, and I am happy with the current situation. The food is very good and varied, and problems I had with transportation and meds have been taken care of positively. I chose this place out of 4 choices and I'm glad I did. (and so is my cat.)

I've seen the daily routine of care and you can see the aids are in experienced and seem careless at times leaving her for hours of unattended checks on her for bathroom visits. This leads to her room smelling of foul smells. This is the reason local family members for not wanting to see their grandmother. I'd give five stars to of activities department. Because of the one great RN named Dawn, she should get five stars. So, that's a total of two stars for the rest of the place. For the price we pay, this place should have better aids and provide more attention vice leaving them to exist in their rooms to sit in filth.

If my aging parents lived in this state, there's nothing that would give me greater happiness and peace of mind than seeing them retire to FVD. Imagine a super cool college campus with great people, fun activities and awesome food - but NO job, responsibilities or stress whatsoever. That's what retirement living at FVD is like. You move in young, healthy and spry in your 60s and basically have the time of your life. As you get older, additional care and support is there when you need it. The new expansion they're doing, while obviously causing a bit of construction noise/mess now, is going to be AMAZING once it's complete. The Health Center (nursing home) side is wonderful too, once the time comes for that level of care. The people are great - both residents and staff. I love this place and I'm so glad I get to work with the team and residents as part of my day job!

To those of you with a family member or a loved one in the hospital,…read more My name is "Matt the Social Worker", and I was with Mill Run for six years. I am leaving this review with tips and advice to help make your stay with Mill Run the best it can possibly be. To answer the question at the top of your head: Yes, Mill Run is a fantastic care center. The employees are great and hardworking, the vibe is outgoing and friendly, and Mill Run maintains a strong reputation as a great care center in Columbus. If you have a loved one in the hospital and are seeking Short Term Rehab, I would fully recommend having them go to Mill Run for their rehabilitation services. Question: "What should I bring for my family member?" Answer: What you would bring going to a hotel: Clothes, Toiletries, and activities (like puzzle books). I would NOT bring: expensive items, jewelry, and family heirlooms. There's no guarantee those items won't be lost in the transition from the Hospital to Mill Run, and we'd rather you not lose them in the midst of your healthcare journey. Question: "Help, I have a problem, how do I get it resolved?" Answer: Your strongest tool is communication with the Mill Run team. Mill Run has a strong culture of "If you have a problem, let us know and we'll fix it", however Mill Run NEEDS you to communicate when you have a problem. The Staff are not psychic, they cannot read your mind. If you don't communicate there's a problem, they won't be able to fix it for you. Key Individuals who can help resolve problems are: Nursing: Speak to a Unit Manager. Each Hall has a dedicated Nurse Unit Manager who is in charge of that hallway. Dietary: Dietary Manager for Meals, Nutritionist for Weight loss/Weight gain, and Speech Therapist for Swallowing needs. Finances and Copays: Business Office Manager Discharge Planning: Social Services. One Important Thing: Please ALWAYS try to be respectful to staff even when you're having an issue. The staff genuinely want to help and want to make your experience the best it can be. The more staff feel threatened, the more precautions staff have to take when providing care to your family member (Having a Witness, More Documentation, etc) and the slower your care could be. Question: "How long will my family member be at Mill Run?" Answer: Everyone's length of stay is dictated by insurance. On average, about 10-14 days, but it CAN be less, even sometimes up to as few as 2 days. Weekly updates are sent to the insurance company and when the insurance company decides to end services they will provide a notice to facility staff who will report it to you or your family member. If you are on a Medicare Plan, you will receive a 2-day notice referred to as a NOMNC. The date on the NOMNC is your "Last Covered Day" or last full day under insurance, with discharge typically the next day. If you are not in agreement, you can appeal by going to the website for Commence Health and filing an appeal. Please be aware you WILL need: Name, Address, Date of Birth, Medicare ID Number, Start Date of Services, Facility Phone Number (Mill Run's is 614-527-3000), and you will need to type up two statements: 1) Why was your family member admitted 2) Why does your family member need additional time. Appeal results are usually-but not always-received within two days of when the appeal is filed. If you LOSE the appeal, the last covered date remains the same. If you win the appeal, there is no guaranteed next date as it is up to insurance to dictate when a new NOMNC will be issued (plus side, it's another guaranteed 2-day notice). If you are on a Commercial Plan (i.e. Employer Insurance, Private Insurance), insurance is NOT required to give advanced notice. Appeal options vary with Commercial Plans and may not be guaranteed. Question: "What is the therapy schedule?" Answer: Therapy is approximately, but not always (again, dependent on your exact insurance) 5 days a week, and consist of a mix of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. Speech Therapy may also be available depending on your insurance for swallowing and cognition related needs. Physical Therapy handles tasks like standing and walking, strength, and endurance. Occupational Therapy handles "activities of daily living", like being able to feed yourself, self-cleaning, etc. Therapy is not able to provide an exact time they will be in due to how their schedule is arranged based on new admits coming to the facility. Although I am moving on, I wanted to leave this review to commemorate and acknowledge the many sacrifices and challenges my Mill Run Family has overcome these past several years to provide amazing care to our community. I wish everyone the best with their individual healthcare journey. - Matthew George, LSW, MSW AKA "Matt the Social Worker"

This facility is beyond awful. I wouldn't leave my dog here with out an outsider to supervise all…read moreinteractions. The facility to begin with is dirty, and management is shady. Their work ethics are non existent. My family member was often soaked in urine, and flat on his back in bed. Sometimes out of bed and falling out of a chair. And the last time I was there I called 911 because no one could tell me what was happening, or how long my family member had been in the condition he was in. I was told "I told a nurse he was really hard to wake up this morning". But couldn't tell me what nurse, what time, and if there was ever a follow up done. Ironically at the hospital they drained over 3 liters of urine from his bladder, that caused kidney damage. A catheter was placed in the ER, and was never able to be removed. My dad was never able to go back home. Call buttons were never answered in a timely manner. They would place meal trays across the room where the patient could not reach it on their own. Unchanged bedding, unkept rooms. Always told "we're just so understaffed" or the "weekend employees are unaware of how his care is specific". The only time things ran well were when JCS, DOH, and/or a social worker made planned visits.
