Took my car in because it overheated the people that work there were extremely nice but when he called me back and told me the repairs were going to amount to amount just a little over $5000 I was stunned. Someone recommended that I go get another opinion at an independent station and low and behold I did. I got every single one of the things that convoy auto recommended that I have done plus a front brake job and some kind of motor mount nut which they didn't notice was needed. So everything convoy auto wanted me to get for $5000 I got plus the brake job plus the motor mount nut for a whopping $2350! I don't know if it's because I'm a woman that they thought they could take advantage of me or what the situation is but don't trust them get a second opinion! read more

Unfortunately, it turned out to be a deeply frustrating experience. First, shortly after dropping off my vehicle, I received an unexpected push for multiple add-on services (cabin air filter, brake fluid flush, fuel injection service) that were never mentioned during initial check-in. The main issue occurred after pickup: my turn signal started hyperflashing--an error that did not exist when I brought the car in. Thinking it might be temporary, I drove toward my destination, but realized the issue persisted. I had to turn around and drive an hour back to the shop. When I reported it, they refused to take any accountability or even do a quick visual check. Instead, they demanded I leave the car again for hours and pay a diagnostic fee if they decided the issue wasn't caused by them. Driving way out of my way twice and being asked to risk paying extra money for a problem that occurred while the vehicle was in their care completely broke my trust. I got my car serviced here about a year ago for a/c issues. They fixed it and now barely a year later I am having a/c issues. The a/c repair also was under warranty. They wanted to quote me $2k for 2 a/c lines saying they were leaking. I asked them why did they not find these lines leaking a year ago. I knew it was bs especially the price. They got $250 out of me for a diagnostic. Also when I asked for the price breakdown and for parts and labor Joe could not provide that for me. Dropped the price down to like $1950 which again I smell bs. They see I have veteran plates and am a woman. They must think I got money. I got a second opinion and it's not even my a/c lines but a simple repair under $500. It's sad you cannot trust your neighborhood repair shop. I wouldn't trust Convoy Auto. They've worked on my truck a few times and I took it in to see if they could fix my leak with the power steering they told me I needed to replace the whole power steering pump, which would be thousands of dollars , I was not ready to do that took it home and parked my truck and then started it the next day and nothing opened up my hood and there was two caps sitting on top of the firewall. They didn't replace the caps on my air-conditioning line and I couldn't get my truck to start because there was air in the lines. Yeah I wouldn't take it to these people for nothing they were gonna charge me well over $3500.. I took it to Genesee Auto Care, the owner John told me I need to replace my power steering hose not the pump a fraction of the price that Convoy Auto was going to charge me . Please do not take your vehicle here they will screw you. They don't care. They will overcharge you and smile while they take your money. Convoy Auto Repair is usually an acceptable service option due to their prices (better than dealer), and transparency, (which allows me to do the more expensive jobs myself). I take my Kia here for warranty purposes due to them being certified to work on those cars. However, my most recent experience left a sour taste in my mouth. During a routine tire rotation, a technician broke one of the lug nut studs. I was promptly notified that critical action was required. Once the service advisor called me, I was told that this repair would cost 280 dollars. Unless the shop is willing to make things right and offer a reduced cost for this repair I will not be coming back. read more

STAY AWAY! RIP-OFF ARTISTS - This is the nightmare you always worry about when looking for a good mechanic. I had my car towed in and diagnosed, which they charged $160 for. They found that the fuel pump and module had gone bad. I love my car and give it the best service and parts. I liked Convoy's professional demeanor on the phone, and I was in a jam with time, so I went forward. OMG, I will never trust a mechanic without vetting them again. They charged me $928 for a part I cannot find costing over $300. I have heard about upcharging for parts, but over 300% markup? IT IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING AND A SCAM. Their labor rates are higher than dealership rates. My bill made me want to vomit. I feel completely ripped off. I called them, and all they can say is that they have a warranty. I'm pretty disappointed the Google reviews for this place are good so I thought I'd give them a try, but I'm left feeling like I got ripped off. I went there for a oil change and after I got my car back the first thing I noticed was they didn't replace the window sticker. After he brought me one I jokingly asked "you did actually change my oil right". The next day when I got ready to leave I tried to clean my windshield but the wiper fluid was completely empty? Not only that but none of my fluids have been topped off. I checked the oil, after getting to where I was going and it's low it wasn't filled to the maximum line. So I don't know what to do it's like they just pulled the car around the corner out of sight waited 45 minutes and brought it back without even touching it. I was almost scammed by this place for A/C repair. I paid for diagnostics, and they stated there was a leak from my evaporator coil, replacement for part and labor etc. would be near 2000 dollars. I had a second diagnostic performed and the honest mechanic found no leaks and I paid to have them flush and replace the refrigerant. I appreciate the quick diagnosis, the honest opinion, the patience with me lol, and the immeasurable, amount of help they provided after the fact. I didn't take care of my car. On multiple occasions I dropped the gear to second so that I could get up hills faster and did not pay attention to the tachometer. I'm pretty sure I kept redlining it, but didn't notice at the time. My car broke down and it wouldn't turn over so I thought it was a battery got a battery that didn't work out. I had run the OBD and it said knock sensor. Brought it to Convoy to Auto in Repair. I was greeted very professionally. I was called me back promptly the next morning with the bad news. broken control arm. They were honest about the cost, what options I had and whether or not it would be worth the time or the money. It's a 24 year old car. So a repair like that outweighs the value by double. I was able to pay for the diagnosis. But I wound up losing my job. So in my hopes to get a car, were out the window. I wound up trying to sell it, but after after no success decided on donating it to charity. I gave convoy auto a call and asked them if they would be able to help me get it picked up by the charity because I would not be in town any of the days that they were able to pick it up. they almost seemed excited to help out. If you can shop around for your auto repair, do it. I need an alternator replacement on 02May2023, I have no choice to get my truck done to this shop because it's un drivable. The tech guy (Paul) who worked on my truck is cool but the service advisor (Joe) will definitely rip your money off, Joe charged me for the refurbished alternator for $458.72 but the online price from NAPA is for only $269.58. So my total went up to $604.96 (refurbished alternator, labor and tax included). Joe said, he has to make profit somehow plus that's what the 3-year warranty. I needed a fuel pump replaced ASAP . The shop is a little on the high side as far as their cost go. They also use the most expensive parts shop. So if you have time to shop around I would recomend that. I have had a fuel pump replacement in my other car. And was less but was able to shop around. One last thing to add a fuel pump does not need the whole assembly replaced. You can just replace the motor with a new strainer . That part is much cheaper read more

So, I took my 2015 camaro to chevrolet to have the brakes changed since they said it needed a change. They tried to charge me an insane amount 1300 someone I got them down to $910. I told chevrolet no thanks. I take my car here the next day and they told me $610. I left it overnight the next morning got a call from Joe saying my brakes look just fine, do not need any change or new pads. That was exceptional, honest service, they could've did the service and got paid the full $610 but he kept it real with me and for that I will be coming here for now on with any future call troubles. Other than that everyone was nice and the service was really fast. They were asking over $6,000 to repair an oil leak in December which sounded really wrong so I took it to the dealership and I was just quoted a total cost of $296. They are trying to take advantage of customers not knowing true costs of repairs. While I am a relatively new customer at Convoy Auto Repair my recurring experiences over the past year have been nothing short of easy and pleasurable with Convoy Auto Repair when compared to my previous experiences at other shops in San Diego. I read some of the less favorable reviews before bringing my car in for the first time which expressed concern about their pricing, but I serviced my shocks and a few other standard larger expenses for general vehicle maintenance and found their pricing to be well within standard industry margins for a reputable shop. Sure, plus or minus a hundred dollars, but with the warranty included on their labor, communication from the front office, and overall professionalism I never felt like I was cheated on the cost of any bill I received. To top it all off, what really sold me on this shop was what I witnessed during my first visit to the shop. It was early morning and just a few minutes after they had opened. As I waited in line, the whole parking lot behind me was really crawling with people and cars moving around as all the neighboring shops open at the same time and begin swapping the vehicles in their garages. As I'm waiting in line, a technician from another shop walked in, skipped the line, and began to consult with the front office manager about a repair they were working on, but couldn't figure out. Went to go get my brakes checked out and they told me that it would cost me around $1,600 to replace my breaks along with a few other things. I told them I had a budget and instead of trying to figure out what could be done within that budget, they told me that I should just stop driving my car until I had the money to fix it. I called a few other shops and they let me know that this place was over charging me. I found another shop called Speedy auto and they were able to help me come up with a plan so that I can get everything fixed in a more budget friendly way. Really disappointed, I got brakes done. Within a week, they started creaking smelling. I called, and was told that is normal and give it time for the rotors and pads to mesh. Not exactly a dealership "alternative" First things first, I have been to this shop before and had a great experience previously. The mechanical work is 100% up to par and they do things the right way when performed. This time around vehicle was serviced correctly with the right parts, the only qualm that I have is the cost. I have owned 50+ vehicles now and been to many shops, and would have no problem coming back to this shop if the prices were correctly attributed to the parts installed. I was charged approximately a 35% markup on parts and probably a little bit more labor than what was required. The "multi-point digital inspection" is a non starter for me. Great concept but poorly executed. There are other shops in San Diego that perform this service with similar software that provides a link to give you insights to your car's health but this one was sub par. Generally for a multi point inspection you get a little more details than a fluid inspection and engine bay check for an hour of labor. Also they indicated that warning lights passed the check, even though the truck was brought in without bulbs in the left headlight and marker assembly. For this, I would've expected a portion of that hour applied to the replacement of the batteries which was charged an additional half hour. Batteries do in fact require labor to change but not necessarily to the extent of what it is priced. The remanufactured starter was also listed at a 35% markup from retailer price at NAPA. Starter R&R averages between $327-$409 including parts and labor according to repair pal. This shop charged $526 prior to tax. If I had received a much more detailed inspection report, I would have no qualms. But the digital inspection was lack luster which is a poor indication of the price model. Executive summary: Vehicle was correctly serviced at a much higher ticket than average with an average experience. If you're choosing this shop over a dealership, there is really no difference. Are you getting what you pay for? No. Are they performing work correctly? Yes. Will I come back? Probably not, just go to a dealer. In order to charge a premium for an all inclusive service, you need to new perspectives not a new look. Work performed: Troubleshoot, inspection, replace 2 batteries and a starter What was charged: $1019 What was fair: $852(ish) I have added photos below that show an excellent digital inspection from another shop in San Diego, and Convoy Auto Repair's digital inspection. The shop in comparison performed a 36 point inspection where as Convoy only checked 3. Both charged an hour of labor, however the shop in comparison applied a half hour towards repairs. read more

Another place diagnosed a problem with my truck that they couldnt repair. They recommended Convoy Auto. Two speed sensors. Convoy told me the charge would be $580. I ended up doing the work myself in less than 30 minutes. My cost was $60. In addition they tried to tell me my differential fluid was dirty and needed changing. Over $200. Even the owners manual says you never need to look at the fluid unless there's a leak. Final straw was that they told me that my engine oil was dirty and needed replacement. Thing is, I just had the oil changed less than 300 miles before. I looked at it myself later and it was as clean as could be. You do the math. read more

I'm writing this review in their parking lot. I requested a 9am appointment for Friday earlier this week. They replied with an email confirming my appointment. So I showed up 9 am this morning (it's 9:23 now) checked in and presented my $19.95 ac service coupon. I was told they can't get to my car for an hour - 90 minutes. I wasn't mad because I brought my computer and could get work done in their lobby because they have free wifi. (Only reason for a star) Then after working maybe 5 minutes the service guy who checked me in comes and tells me the shop foreman tells him it will be 4 hours that they will have my car. I then tell him how it is unacceptable as a business to confirm appointments like this and then put them off for 4 hours.
