Absolutely terrible customer service! Owner NATE HALL THREATENS CUSTOMERS, read full story below. If you must use U-Haul in northern MI, go to Boyne City Tire & Brake. Never use Conway Storage for U-Haul. If you must use it for storage, deal only with Jackie Hall. Nate is the worst! There are many options for storage in the area, just beware that the Hall's own a few of them (Conway, Fochtman Drive). On Tuesday April 12, 2016 I made a reservation online at uhaul.com for a one-way 5x8 trailer rental from Conway Storage Petoskey, MI, for pickup on Friday April 15. Shortly after making the reservation we heard from U-Haul that we needed to get a hitch inspection prior to picking up the trailer on Friday. I drove out to Conway Storage on Tuesday 12April, and there was a sign on the window stating that they were closed, until they opened on Tuesday 12April. Both times I went to the business on Tuesday there was no one working. After multiple calls and trips to Conway storage and finding out no one was working all day on Wednesday, I called corporate U-Haul customer service and asked if I needed to go elsewhere to get my reservation and hitch inspection. They said they had no indication that Conway Storage would be closed during that time, and they would email Jackie Hall (owner) and let her know about the reservation and to call me. I didn't hear anything. I called the Storage facility again on Thursday evening and talked with Jackie and found out I did not in fact need a hitch inspection, and someone would be working during business hours on Friday morning when we were to pick up our reservation. Friday April 15, 2016, my wife and I went to pick up the trailer about 0900. Luckily someone was working and the door unlocked. We told the gentleman about our reservation we were there to pick up. He could not find the reservation in his computer, but mentioned he had plenty of trailers. We pulled up our reservation on our phone and showed him the email confirmation, and mentioned that we had been trying to get a hitch inspection for the last few days. I mentioned the sign on the door with the incorrect return date and how it complicated the issue. A switched was then flipped in the man. He quickly became upset telling me that for the last 15years he had gone on vacation during the same time every year, and it had never been an issue. I apologized for not knowing his schedule as we weren't from the area, and the sign on the door was incorrectly dated. He became irate and said, and I quote, "You know what? I DON'T HAVE TO RENT YOU A TRAILER! You are an @$$hole! I don't rent to @$$holes! I'm not renting you anything!!" My wife and I were completely taken aback. Her father had died days before and we were renting the trailer to take his estate home with us. This is also the only U-haul rental company in the area. My wife nearly started balling as I asked the man his name. He REFUSED TO TELL ME HIS NAME, again profusely and profanely calling me an @$$hole. Luckily for me there was a stack of business cards on the counter so I grabbed one as we headed for the door, and asked the man if he was serious, and if his name was Nate Hall, co-owner of Conway Storage on the business card. He refused to answer and threatened us, now making a move towards us from behind the counter. Fearing for our safety I quickly called the number on the business card and was sent to U-haul customer service. Nate was yelling that he had "over 3,000 5-star Yelp reviews", and that I was the problem, not him. As I was on hold, I mentioned I was surprised about that, and that I would have to join Yelp to give him his first negative feedback. He then began advancing towards us, which made us more concerned. We departed. As we pulled away from Conway Storage, without our trailer, I was connected to a representative at corporate and began to tell them our story as Nate Hall continually threatened us, yelled to us that we broke his door, again that we were @$$holes, and that he was calling the police. Fearing for our well being from this infuriated person I stayed on the phone as we drove away. By the time the police showed up it may have been too late, as Nate had gone from slightly ornery to completely irate in less than 30 seconds. Again, we feared for our safety and had no protection besides flight. We could not believe what happened! Nate has no customer service. He threatens customers and refused to fulfill the U-haul contract, forcing us to drive over an hour round trip to get a replacement trailer.
