On vacation in the Charlevoix area, we experienced what no vacationer wants to experience: car problems. Specifically, a flat tire. Bad luck. Good luck: this business was just a block away. We slowly drove our car into their very busy shop on a Thursday morning and were immediately greeted by two staff who left a project to help us. Within 10-minutes, they had our tire off and in a tub of water to find the leak. Because we had driven a while on a low tire, unknowingly, there was evidence of side wall damage. We dreaded a big bill and long wait. More good luck: a screw was retrieved, the pressure left in the tire was adequate to not ruin it and our hole was foxed within 15-minutes. The auto repair staff and office staff were all wonderful. They were reassuring, honest and made us feel at home. They could have easily put us at the back of the line (we are out of towners) or sold us an expensive new tire. We walked away with a $25 repair bill. They even let us keep our car on their property while we went to breakfast and explored downtown on bikes. You don't find business like this these days. Please give them your business and respect. Wish we lived closer. They would be our go-to for car repairs. read more

Our tire started deflating rapidly on our way to Beaver Island ferry. Because we were running so short on time Lakeshore came and picked our car up from B. I. Boat dock and handled it all from there. Unfortunately a tire replacement wasn't going to be in until Monday, and we were departing Charlevoix on a Sunday. So they put the donut on our car and redelivered it to B. I. Boat dock. I don't know where to begin with these people....so I bought a car that needed repairs and took it to them to fix. I wanted a full check up, told them I needed it drivable before it was delivered to where I live. I saw they were in a bit of a backup of other cars that needed repairs and told them: "look I'm in no hurry, get to it when you can I have another car I can use right now". So fast forward a month later, I had to call them twice to get word on my car just to check in on it and see if it got serviced. Eventually I got someone who told me "it will be done in the next few days". So I wait and I get a call saying it's done and they will deliver it. I get a call from the boat dock that they dropped my car off that it was here. So I went down and grabbed it. The car now doesn't start at all even tho it sounds like it wants to....so obviously they didn't check everything. I was not in a rush, I managed to get it started one time and got it home where it no won't turn at all even tho it sounds like it wants to. I called them and told them this and got "well Bob is out on a test drive, we will call you and see what we can do". That was 5 days ago and now I'm stuck working on a car myself because this car won't move...they told me they checked other things....why in the world didn't they check everything like I asked. Like if it took another month or two that was fine like why send me back a car you clearly didn't test drive or check everything?! Now I have to wait even longer to get this repaired because I barely have time to work on this. From experience in the past with my family coming here they were great. I would give them 5 stars in the past, but now I'm going to tell people "make sure to check their work because you might end up stranded if you don't" luckily for me I had another car. read more

They backed my truck into another car, made me pay full price and tried to cover it up. I ordered and had tires installed on my dodge 2500, they said it was ready so i went in, paid the woman at the front counter and went to leave, after i started my truck an employee came out waving their hands so i stopped, they told me they had backed it into a truck and they were about to replace the taillight, i waited a half hour while they did and noted the damage to the truck. no price break and no apology. read more

I received new 12" Carlisle trailer tires as a gift. I brought them in to Lakeshore for mounting and paid $20 per tire. Later that day I mentioned this to a friend who said I paid way too much; going rate in this area is $7.50 - $10.00 range. I called them back to ask why I paid more and was told that it was because I did not purchase the tires from them. So, lesson learned, I will shop tire services around more next time, but I also won't start that shop-around with Lakeside! They should have notified me ahead of time that I would be paying a 100+% markup because of purchasing the tires elsewhere. read more

Not sure what "Doug" is referencing. Seems maybe he's the one with the attitude. Never had an issue here ever. They tell it like it is and do their work. It's not a social club, it's a dirty busy business. I'm sure they're happy to have Doug go elsewhere. read more
