The White Mountains Hostel is a great option for lodging in the Conway area. I took a last minute trip up to the mountains to hike and didn't have time to get all my camping gear together. The hostel had availability at a more than fair price and it was simple to make a reservation online. Check in starts at 4pm. My only interaction with a staff person was at that time but they were very friendly and explained where everything was in the house (as it was my first stay). I ended up with the female bunk room to myself. There is also a male bunk room, co-ed room, and plenty of private rooms. Depending on your needs, they're likely to have the accommodations for you. Sheets, blankets, pillows, and lockers with keys are provided. The amenities were a welcome addition to my stay. The full kitchen came in handy when I decided to stay in for dinner. The bathrooms were clean with several stalls and a couple of showers. Plenty of tables and seating downstairs. A back porch to lounge on. Several children were staying in the hostel at the same time that I was and though they were a bit rambunctious during the day, all guests were respectful of quiet hours. I would definitely stay here again. Similar if not cheaper in price than some of the local campgrounds. read more

I'm pretty new to the concept of hostels; this is only the 2nd one I've stayed in. The first also in the White Mtns was horrible and dirty so I was nervous to say the least about staying here. Alas, this is a jewel. Very clean. Comprises a fully equipped kitchen big enough for several cooks in the kitchen at the same time. Has a dining room big enough to seat at least 12 if memory serves me which is open to the living area. Has at least 10 bedrooms (I say that because we were in room 10 on the 3rd floor) with linens provided. We had a private room with 2 queen beds and a sink for about 63.00 including tax. There are other rooms available with bunk beds. There are separate gents and ladies bathrooms on the 2nd floor with shower stalls, toilets, and sinks. There is another restroom on the first floor. Towels are provided but bring your own soap and shampoo. Our caretaker is the new owner, as well. She was very inviting and gracious. I'd definitely stay here again. I'd say it's better than a hotel for my needs. I don't mind sharing a bathroom with the offset being I have a kitchen to use. I'd say that's a fair tradeoff when looking for a place to stay while hiking the White Mtns. read more

The secretly weetest season for hiking is here, so it's time to whip out this backlogged draft I had from being at the Conway White Mountains Hostel back in March. A good place to stay in this region is especially helpful considering the area, which in my observation usually offers only two types of lodgings: (1) Overcommercialized, overindustrialized, and overcrowded (during the ski season) mega-resorts whose dubious luxury is eclipsed anyway by tourists and their junior asshole kids. (2) The odd old bed and breakfast or fancy historical hotel charging an arm and a leg for an atmosphere that can be found for free by visiting your nearest senior center or antique store. The fact that Conway White Mountains Hostel is neither of these things is enough to put it on any hiker's map, and then you have the rates (http://www.whitemountainshostel.com/id2.html), which only fluctuate slightly according to season. It comes down to $20 and change after taxes for a bunk in a room full of your hiking buddies or overly positive and ultimately loud European backpackers. It's a fair enough deal, especially considering the mountain-appropriate cleanliness of this converted New England farmhouse of the colonial persuasion, which doesn't allow shoes past the foyer. In other words, it won't be like the hostels in London, where you're afraid you'll find someone shooting up or having fornicating on the stairwell. It'll be more approaching the vibe of hostels in Switzerland or the Sierras, where you can burrow under blankets and breathe in the crispy air all day and all through the night. That said, the way to get the most out of this place is to snag a PRIVATE ROOM with a queen bed for somewhere between the $60s or $70s, which is no more expensive than the going rate for scuzzy motel chains. The group rooms are $23 plus tax, but why stay with strangers if you don't have to, right? The gravel parking lot is small, and sometimes, an asshole will park at a ridiculous angle, having been too impatient to think of anyone else before doing whatever it is he wanted to please. For situations like this, a nasty note on the windshield is the best way to go, because the staff can't help it if they can't find the loser and bring him to task. What the staff (basically a wonderful young married couple that became new owners of the place) will do is lead you to your room and drag in a whole new clean queen sized pillowtop mattress if someone's having back pain and needs an EXTRA firm situation. They'll also let you use their just-refurbished bathroom that no one else can use, and you won't care that there isn't soap or shampoo because you'll have brought your own and just be happy to have a de facto private bathroom with hot water raining down from the showerhead upon your aching body after a 12 hour hike. Little tube TV has light cable, not that you'll be paying attention since you're hunkering over takeout KFC before passing the F out. As with most outdoorsy situations, mornings are best here, choosing from one of the motley mugs in the long, bright, stocked kitchen and filling it up with the house coffee. A bittersweet moment before saying goodbye and driving back down South, while the newbies fill up the common areas, unfurling their maps and plotting their mountain adventures for the coming day. read more

While this is also a hostel, they are running a secondary business - HealthGradesPro. I have been receiving emails from them daily even through I have unsubscribed multiple times. This is currently illegal and I will be reporting to them once the government shutdown is over and the FTC accepts complaints. So just a word of caution if you're considering staying there. Good base camp for hiking or skiing in the area! Clean, cozy, and a convenient location. We enjoyed our stay!

This is definitely one of the better hostels I have ever stayed at. The proprietors are super nice and the location is convenient for any White Mountains adventure. The cost for the cheapest bunk will run around 25$ if you include the tax. The following is a list of services: - Full sized kitchen for use. - Storage cubes for kitchen food, another one for shoes upon entry, etc. - Showers, but you need to bring your own shampoo, soap, etc. - Really nice common room with plenty of tables for dining, a few couches for watching TV, etc. - Free wifi. - Plenty of parking on the side and rear of the building. Yeah, this is my 'go to' spot for winter adventures. The people that stay here are 'interesting' and fun. Have already gone skiing with 2 different people I have met up here with - good times! read more

Great hostel! Cheap rates, clean rooms, plenty of hot water, warm rooms, lots of blankets, nice kitchen, board games, tv, and just about everything else you could want from a youth hostel! They have a variety of rooming options and plenty of parking as well. Great location near the center of town. Good diner a five minute walk away as well. read more

I couldn't have had a better experience at the Conway WM Hostel. The owner was incredibly helpful and friendly. We were getting a little worried when it appeared that we weren't going to be getting in to Conway until after 11pm. The owner's daughter returned my call in a timely manner to inform me that it would be no issue and that her father would be there to check us in when we arrived. They live on-site which helps for check in, even at crazy hours. At arrival, he checked us in quickly and gave us information to get to our rooms. You are asked to leave you shoes in cubbies down by the entrance, which wasn't an issue for us. The rooms are dorm style, bunks with sheets, blankets and pillows provided. The blankets aren't warm so I recommend using a few of them if it's a winter stay. Bathrooms are shared and the women's room and showers were clean and adequate. Towels are provided if needed. Their is laundry room for a small useage charge and a common room that we did not get the chance to explore. If you are looking for a minimalist approach to accommodations in N. Conway, their really is no beating it. It's definitely not fancy, but for the price you just can't beat it. It certainly is better than winter camping for me. read more

Lovely place to stay in the White Mountains. If you are planning to stay on your own or with a group, this is a great place. Conclusion: a great place to lay your head at night. Fine home away from home. But it has a few..... points of attention. My first time in a hostel. Bed was good, showers were good (temperature and water pressure wise), the room and bathroom where clean, ithere were towels available. But we got the worst room (no. 1, near the common area, it was super small and had noise from washing machines and other people in the dining room) and the kitchen needs a good scrub (I tried to get a plate off the plank but I couldn't get it cause it sticked like glue, a lot of things were sticky) We did have nice contact with a group of bikers, which was totally unexpected but resulted in a nice evening outside by the fire. What stuck most was that I saw a little flame in an electrical outlet in the bathroom. I don't know if that's common, at least not in my home country. The girl at the office reacted all surprised but didn't take action. read more

Awesome place for the price. Super clean, amazingly friendly staff and guests, very polite. There's lockers to keep your stuff in the rooms, and lots of board games for if you get bored. With such low prices, I would definitely stay here again. read more

it's a hostel, don't expect much beyond the essentials. other hostels I've stayed in have had more people up and about in the evenings. might have been the crowd and different on other nights but everyone was gone to bed before 1030. we had hoped to meet and converse with other guests, not really that type of place I suppose. probably wouldn't stay here again owing to the fact that there are so many small cabins around for about the same price. read more
