When I've had questions, I haven't felt comfortable asking for help because the responses are often very brief, and there doesn't seem to be much willingness to answer questions or explain things. I'm not expecting someone to know everything, but I do expect basic courtesy, especially at a nursery where customers may have different levels of knowledge about plants. I try to be kind and respectful when I ask questions, and unfortunately, that kindness hasn't felt reciprocated. I also think the nursery could do a better job of clearly marking prices. Clear pricing would make the shopping experience easier for customers and could help avoid unnecessary frustration at checkout. Kinda weird, but hey I didn't have to wait too long so that was fine. I told the lady what I was there for & OMG the nursery is massive ! She said the nursery is almost 3 acres. So there's a lot to see !! She showed the me the agaves & I ended up taking home a larger size (15 gal) than the advertised 5 gallon. The price ($55) was awesome for the size ! All the plants looked healthy so that was a plus. I also purchased the largest string of pearls I have ever seen EVER at a nursery. I already have this plant at home but wow I couldn't help myself !! It was also the variegated variety too. For the size, the price of $85 was very fitting. My only complaint is I wish they didn't charge tax if you're paying with Zelle. Like come on, the money is going straight to your bank account. Also from my experience with taking home larger plants, at other nurseries they wrap the pot so the plant doesn't make a mess in the car. So it would have been nice if that would have been done here. Going on their website is helpful because you can see what is in stock, but I had no idea how vast this place was. I'd only been looking at CA native plants, so from my parking spot to the pick-up desk I maybe only covered 1/15th of the area, if that. I've been looking for a local nursery with a wide selection of California natives, & have been lurking Ricardo's Nursery's online selection for a month. Finally purchased a 1-gallon Cleveland sage (Salvia clevelandii 'Winnifred Gilman') for $12 & a 1-gallon Yankee Point Carmel Creeper (Ceanothus griseus var. horizontalis 'Yankee Point') for $10. They had different variations of each plant reserved for me for me to choose from which was so endearing because I am secretly picky. Spoke with Jose who was super cool. There's also a very chill dog :) I was surprised by how vast the selection was in-person. The white sage (salvia apiana) in stock is just gorgeous. There are soooo many others I want to purchase, so thank goodness for my wallet that my project is fairly limited. (For now!) I would've wandered around photographing every single plant if it wasn't a million degrees outside & I didn't have to be somewhere. In just the 3 minutes it took me to walk to the pick-up stand, many plants caught my eye & I was reading the labels to figure out who they were. He finally bought what looks like a twig to me, planted it in a pot & has been watering it. I can't even tell if it will come alive or not & there are no leaves or sprouts, or any sign of life to it yet. I searched Yelp & found Ricardo's and called them yesterday. They said they jave several 15 gallon persimmon trees & delivery will be $20. We went today & they had varying heights of 15 gallon persimmon trees, ranging from $150-180. We wanted to get the 15 gallon so we can get reimbursed partially for it as we are participating in LB's Lawn to Garden program. Today they said delivery will be $35 (we live 3.5 miles away) so I am taking one star away for raising the delivery fee once we are at the store. But otherwise, everyone was helpful, knowledgeable, & friendly. One staff even pry opened an ice cream fruit & my husband tasted it. (I'm not so adventurous so I demurred...) They have many mango trees, avocado trees, pomegranate trees, drago fruit trees, & many, many other plants. We only stayed in the entrance area & there were so many plants. They have many drought tolerant plants, including succulents. They do not have citrus trees due to fruit flies & state quarantine zone rules. Overall, nice big nursery with helpful staff. Everything seems neatly organized. There's a small variety of pots, a shed full of bags of small decorative rocks, a price list, and then the succulents are nicely arranged and categorized. There's a table full of collectors succulents and cacti, cacti, succulents starting with small 2 inch pots, and it works it's way up to 8 inch pots. There's a lovely variety of succulent plants and their prices are clearly listed. If any succulent has a different price, it's shown so there's no surprises. It's very important to get plants that have been grown locally to ensure they'll thrive at your home - a lot of nurseries grow outside of LA and then sell here because it's cheaper but those plants are higher likelihood of going into shock and not thriving.
