hello! i had my first ever endoscopy today and id like to share my experience and thoughts about how it was for anyone who is nervous, scared, or overall just curious! i went to my children's urgent care to have it done by an amazing GI specialist who we have seen before (Dr. Huang shoutout to you!) PERSONALLY i do not handle needles of any kind well at all, i had a traumatic experience with bloodwork/needles at a JPS hospital aswell as other bad experiences beforehand so needles just don't sit well with me haha! once telling the anesthesiologist about my past experience with needles and how anxious, stressed, and scared i was she kindly offered accommodations! instead of giving me the extra medicine before the anesthesia to calm me down (my apologies i'm not sure of the exact name!) she offered it in liquid form orally! tasted horrible but 100% worked, after 10 minutes of taking the "giggle juice" medicine i was hysterically laughing and unable to remember anything past that! after 20-35 minutes they roll me back into the procedure room (im still laughing my ass off from this medicine, not a care in the world) and everything went amazing! they gave me the IV whenever i was asleep in my hand instead of while i was awake and i woke up with no stomach pain, aches or anything! the procedure took 30 minutes and they got multiple biopsies, no pain after! ate a popsicle there and they took my iv out (was still too high to even notice it) and we were out! 10 hours post op now, had some chicken and rice soup and overall i feel pretty great besides a sensitive stomach from all the pain ive had from being glutened the past week or so. overall amazing experience and i dont really remember anything! just thought id share for my story for anyone who is scared or anxious. you got this! it is nothing to stress over and it is quite literally done in no time. i hope everyone is feeling great and if you're having any procedures soon, im praying for you! read more

Always short wait times and I've never had a bad experience but just recently we saw the nurse practitioner Kelsey Hale and let me tell you her bedside manner is the best I've ever experienced in pediatric healthcare. She actually spent time in the room with us, nothing felt rushed and it was just overall a great experience and you can tell she genuinely cares about your child and any concerns you have. So my son has a fever of 103.1, and this is his third day with a fever. He has complained about a headache and not being able to taste food. We set up a COVID test appointment, and we make the 30-minute drive to this location. The woman, Angie, who called me to verify the information once I texted "HERE" tells me that we cannot test him for COVID because he tested positive within the last 90 days, because it goes against the CDC "recommendations." I told her that I drove my sick four-year-old 30 minutes, and it is past his bedtime, for nothing. Why is that not on the COVID questionnaire? She just kept saying, "Mmm hmm," in a very apathetic tone, as if she did not care. She didn't even apologize for the inconvenience! Absolutely ridiculous! Just include the question, "Has the patient tested positive for COVID in the last 90 days?" to the COVID questionnaire. It's that simple. Do better, Cook Children's! **UPDATE** The CDC screenshot (2nd picture) says if you recover and remain without COVID-19 symptoms. This doesn't apply for my son. He recently developed fever, headache, and loss of taste. And he had close contact with a confirmed positive. He should have been tested. Shame on you! Do not take your child here. I took my 4month old here because he was coughing. After waiting over 2hours I then taken to another waiting room. They have a waiting room in the front and after they call your name there is another one in the back. Once the nurse practitioner...not a doctor saw my son she noticed his eye twitching and sounded the alarm bells that it may be neurological and I need to rush him to the emergency room. Again, I just came in for a cough. They offered to get me an ambulance and I said it right across the street and I can drive. Once I got to the main hospital Cook Children's Emergency I waited 7hours to get a C-T cat scan and turns out it was nothing! After 10 plus hours I finally had it and grabbed a doctor walking by and told her I just want someone to check his cough. Go to Children's in Dallas. Do NOT go here! I took my one year old daughter because she was coughing and breathing weird. They checked her out and diagnosed her with RSV. Then they said she needs to go to the hospital due to being concerned about her breathing. I said 3 times that I want to drive her there and they said no. That we can't drive her and that she has to be transported via ambulance. I don't currently have insurance due to certain circumstances. When we got to the hospital they checked her out and said that she has rsv and discharged us with meds. The doctor said that the ambulance was unnecessary and that we could have drove her ourselves to the ER from urgent care. I will never use this cooks children's urgent care again. My son had an itchy single eye and we were visiting in laws out of state. We decided to come here on a Saturday around noon only one ahead of us and we got checked in paper work and looked over in just under an hour. The guy taking my sons vitals was super personable and obviously great with kids. The nurse who checked him out was patient asked questions and couldn't have had anything better! The place was perfect for kids even the ceiling tiles had cool fishes decorated on them and cartoons on the TV. Definitely would recommended this place as we felt very safe there with our son! read more

This place truly deserves 6 stars!!! I've long been an advocate for taking your children to pediatric ER or urgent care vs. any random hospital. The Cooks network is wonderful!!! The wait at a place like this is much shorter than most places. The patient care given is out of this world!!! We've come here for anything from broken bones to RSV. On our most recent trip my gymnast daughter had broken her finger during practice. We came to this Cooks Urgent Care and they took care of us very quickly. Then they referred us to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon within the same network(it was a bad break along her growth plate). The surgeon saw her that week and scheduled surgery for the next morning. All went well and now her poor finger is recovering. I highly recommend Cooks over any other place. read more

The doctor at this place is a joke. I brought my daughter in thinking it was an actual Emergency room and it's just a medical urgent care for your typical colds coughs and aches ... I brought in my newborn 5 days old with an actual emergency. No bowels since birth, yellow eyes , yellow skin, spitting up every meal through day and night constantly. Doctor came in to see us and talked to the nurse practitioner entire time - until I interjected and asked about the issues at hand. He then proceeded to tell me that babies don't have to poop . As long as they are urinating they are fine. Second time to take my niece to the doctor here, first time my niece wasn't given anything, claimed it was a "virus" few days later we're back. Was never given an antibiotic and now she's so sick she needed breathing treatments. Second time here given nothing once again, said it was a "virus" once again, after 3 days of fever. Took her somewhere else for a second opinion on the same day and she has strep throat. Never going back there again and I wouldn't recommend taking your child here either. My experience there with my grandson was a disappointment with this short heavy set doctor who base suggestions off of guessing about what he thinks this diagnostic is with my grandson. Not to mention that he told my daughter that don't bring him back because at this point it's nothing that they can do! This decision was made on his visit Friday or Saturday Jan. 14/15th. He was in severe pain and he could barely breathe and he wasn't eating or drinking. Had us there for a long time every time. Took him to the hospital on Tuesday Jan. 18th and he was admitted to the cooks hospital. Had to get an iv, he had fluids in his lungs with a double ear infection and urgent care stated he only have rsv. Well it was more than that! He had fever of 103 and oxygen level was 82! My grandson was in a severe medical condition that was mishandle! I am very upset with this clinic and your doctors need more training in the medical field bc he could have died listening to your worst decisions that you told my daughter. My little sister was having a horrible anaphylactic shock from her accidentally eating a peanut. Called at about 9:40 asked what time they closed and they said ten. My mom told them we would be there in about 5 minutes. And we rushed there. Got there about 9:45. They literally looked at our car and shut the door in the face of a little girl who couldn't even breathe. So we had to rush to the ER and hope she would be ok. This place obviously doesn't care or have any compassion for children. This review is for the outpatient lab at Cook's in Hurst. We made an appointment at 9am, exact time they open. They don't allow appointments before 9am. I received a text that read to show up at 9am. We signed in at 9 and I am told there are 4 people ahead of me. Apparently you can walk in at 8:30am without an appointment, this isn't stated anywhere on the site. On Saturday 8/17/19, my daughter was attending her weekend gymnastics class. Unfortunately, as she was doing a backwards roll on the floor, she managed to somehow twist her head the wrong way resulting in a sprain on the right side of her neck. Her coach walked her out to me and informed me of what happened and that it was more than likely a sprain and to just take her home and apply alternating ice, then heat to her neck. As we walked out to my car, my daughter was pretty upset due to the pain so I decided to play it safe and take her to Cook Children's Emergency Clinic in Hurst, Texas, just to have her checked out. (At this point my daughter is still walking on her own and is completely fine aside from her sore neck). Once we are checked in and she is called back into a room, nurses come in to check vitals, etc. and then PA Mike Sharma comes in and begins to heighten the tension intensely, almost immediately, for both myself and my daughter by expressing his opinion that he believes she could have a spinal injury or worse! At this point, he says he is going to call an EMT to transfer my daughter from Cook Children's Clinic in Hurst, to the Cook Children's hospital in downtown Fort Worth. Once the EMT arrived, they then placed my daughter on the gurney. The EMT asked Mike Sharma (the PA) for a rundown of everything that had happened up until this point. He began explaining his arrogant accusation that my daughter was worse off than we thought and made a mountain out of a mole hill to put it simply. The EMT seemed put off by his accusation but did as Mike said and wheeled my daughter out to the truck. Once we were in the ambulance, the EMT and I sat and spoke for a bit in a less stressful atmosphere and they agreed that it was probably nothing more than a sprain, as they've seen MANY, MANY different types of emergency situations and that it was MY choice to either ride in the ambulance or drive my daughter to the hospital myself. I chose to drive her myself so that she would feel more comfortable, as she was already traumatized by all of the previous events. Shortly after I left Cook Children's in Hurst, Mike Sharma began to call me, CONSISTENTLY, from his personal cell phone. He left me multiple voice messages stating that he was "extremely concerned for the critical well being of my daughter and by the choice I made to leave the hospital" (which I was told I could do by the EMT) so he then threatened that he was going to call CPS!!! As if I wasn't stressed enough by all of the events that had happened this day, I was extremely uncomfortable at this point because Mike Sharma would not leave me alone! I proceeded to drive my daughter to Cook Children's in downtown Fort Worth (she walked in by herself). Once there, they checked her vitals and ordered an X-ray for her neck and spine which resulted in what we all assumed from the very beginning- it was a neck sprain. They sent us on our way and let us know that we could apply ice/heat and give her Motrin for pain. In conclusion, this entire situation was blown entirely out of proportion from the very beginning and my daughter is now traumatized to go back to go back to the doctor. I am beyond irate about how Mike Sharma handled this situation and all the stress he put both my daughter and myself through during this time. He seemed to be on a power trip. No one should ever leave (what should have been a precautionary ER visit) feeling the way we do now. read more

Eeeep. I really don't like to write negative reviews, because I'm just a happy person! And at the very least, I try to look for the positive in most situations. But yesterday's experience really just rubbed me the the wrong way. My 18th month old hit her head at an indoor little kids' playground. A true accident by another big kid running too fast. And head injuries as they say- lots of blood! ..yick! So after gathering my thoughts, my preschooler and screaming baby, and all the crap we'd totted to the mall for our Easter Bunny and playground trip (yay fun!), I made my way straight to this urgent care with it being the closest one. First off, there isn't a lot of parking, and I had to hike in. Which is aggravating, when you've got an upset baby with a hole in her head, which is still oozing and its nap time. I checked in, and the attendant was courteous. But now that i'm thinking about it... i've got a wailing baby on my hip, a blood soaked shirt, dried blood all over my hands, and he says "fill out this form please (at least he was polite) But really? You can tell i'm way flustered and you're not waiting on anyone else... I would have appreciated some assistance, or at least a smile, or a "can I help you?" Luckily our nanny, was just around the corner coming to my rescue, so I was able to wash my hands and fill out the blasted forms. We sit and wait for at least 45 minutes, when finally they call our name to be checked in. The nurses here were extremely friendly, very child oriented and kind to me (this is where the second star for the review comes in!) They got the babe's stats and placed some numbing gel on her wound, gently and like you'd expect someone at a children's place to do when you're working with kiddos and then we had to wait another hour to be called back into a room. Here's where I start to get really angry (why I didn't say anything, I don't know.. maybe because I was sedated from what was going on? Not sure- but looking back now I am getting severely annoyed!) I am called up to the desk by the insurance girl while we are waiting until Christmas 2019 to be seen and she informs me that staples/stitches are an Emergency thing, not urgent care, so they will have to bill me more. "Sure" I say, because I get it- whatever, and we have insurance, but surely if this an emergency thing should I not have been seen by now since there are only five people in the waiting room all of which are COUGHING and my kid has a HOLE IN HER HEAD. Had Collins not be singing, dancing and running around the waiting room I would have felt more inclined to ask some questions but again- I let it go. Finally, Christmas 2037 roles around and I have wrinkles, and I'm walking with a cane, and we get back to a room. The attendant/nurse? I am not sure what he was because honestly he just wasn't very child oriented says " You are one of two people back here and we have four physicians on staff right now! They'll be with you immediately..." TEN MINUTES LATER (...uh! HELLO! That's not immediate.. that's ten minutes! And also did I mention that it was way way past nap time, they wouldn't let her eat or drink, which I totally get when you're having surgery, but she needed a dang stitch people! And PS: When you weren't watching I let her have a dum-dum.) Doctor comes in, cleans her up and gets her one itty-bitty staple in and goes on his way. Here's where I got super annoyed. Doc's in charge of the staple, and the attendant is holding baby's head only. And that leaves me to pin down my child (who is on her stomach, and might I add extremely strong!) while she screams, kicks, and cries hysterically for a good five minutes. This is not my job. I am a mom. My job is to soothe my child and talk to her and comfort her. Not literally lay on top of her. I don't mind helping... i've helped hold one leg, or an arm, or sit at the head and soothe my other child during an IV and catheter, but never was it my job to completely pin down my kiddo. My suggestion would be that if you've got a strong kiddo, you need extra staff assisting you. This is hard on moms, dad's or anyone else emotionally attached. So honestly.. I think I would have rather made the drive to Cook's in Downtown. I've been to the ER there before and those people live, breathe and speak sick/hurt baby, and panic stricken mom. read more

This is a great place to take your sick kid if you can't get in at the pediatrician. My daughter was running fever and coughing and she is only 6 months old so of course I was scared to death because I have never been through this before. So I arrived at 3pm on a Monday and the place was almost empty. This is a good thing, because I the most impatient, anxious, claustrophobic mental person out there. Anyway enough about me. It is very nice inside and super clean. I literally sat down and didn't even start the paperwork when she was called. The nurse took her vitals and what not, then we went back to the waiting room. I filled out the papers and we were called to the back to see the doc. Thankfully she only has a cold old and we were in and out in 45 mins max! I am very impressed by how sweet everyone was and made me feel at ease putting her in their care. The doc didn't push any meds or anything. He actually advised against them because of her age. I didn't feel like we were rushed so he could get to the next patient like some other doctors make you feel. Cook Children's is fantastic in my opinion. read more

I took my 1 year old grandson here on 6/7/19 at 8:15pm had to wait for an hour to see a NP who first said his breathing was too rapid and his lungs had sounds present, they ordered a chest X-ray and the because it was now closing time at 10:00pm told us that if his temp rose higher or if he had difficulty breathing then go to the ER because they are limited in what they can do. They said he may or may not have fluid on the lungs but just to watch him!! Seriously? A one year old and you couldn't give him at least a breathing treatment because you were in to big a rush to go home??? No meds, nothing! I will not use them again! read more

The doctor had great bedside manner. The nursing staff was nice too even when my son was screaming bloody murder. I think i will continue to take my kids here instead of going to carenow. Worst Urgent Care ever. I went because I thought it would be great since it specializes in children. My daughter had pneumonia (semi-diagnosed via triage over the phone with a pediatrician friend across the country) so we needed a chest X-ray to confirm it. Of course she got really sick on New Year, so our regular pediatrician was closed. They tried to push the flu test on us several times, despite my refusing it. My daughter had already been sick for 5 days. Tamiflu only works within 48 hours of onset of symptoms. Why in the world would I bother paying for a flu test when I can't treat it? So after refusal, they tried to give her the test anyway by sending another nurse into our room later and trying to swab her. Then, after the chest X-ray, which confirmed she had lobar pneumonia (it's concentrated in one area of the lung), they drew blood for a mycoplasma test. I found out later that mycoplasma pneumonia is generally for school-aged kids, and it causes pneumonia symptoms that are so mild people generality think it's a cold. My daughter was so sick she was laying around the house not moving, with a 104 fever that refused to budge with medication. Based on her symptoms and the X-ray, they must have known this was not mycoplasma, but they did the test anyway TO MAKE MORE MONEY. And they missed her vein and dug around in her arm. I should have refused the test after the first miss but I didn't because I didn't understand what the test was for. My pediatrician friend later told me that this was a bread and butter case that they would have studied for medical school. Students would have been able to diagnose her correctly. Certainly a doctor with years of residency should have been able to. Everything was about money here. They will over test your child and make you feel like a bad parent if you disagree with them. I will never take my kids here again. read more

My 16 month old smashed his forehead into the corner of counter so we took him here to get checked out. We got to the back pretty quick and we're told that we are next so it should be quick. Well an hour later when he had still not been checked out my husband went and asked what was going on. He was told yet again it would just be a minute we were next. After about 20 minutes more we decided to leave and walked out of the room. A Dr sitting at the desk decided to check out our son. It took LESS THAN 5 MINUTES for them to tell us we could leave and he was fine. We waited in the back for an hour and a half for that... NEVER AGAIN. He talked down to my kid and he had a very condescending tone in his voice when he said " I asked you a YES or NO question that is all I needed to hear!" I sure hope he isn't like this to everyone, but he made my first visit a very disturbing bad experience and I will never step foot there again and I will tell others as well. Our 2 yr old son spiked fevers of 102.4 on Thursday. We took him to urgent care at 0100 in am. He was diminished on right side of his chest (not moving as much air), which I told them. His sats were only 94 on room air. The "dr" spent 5 minutes in the room: 3 min checking our sons ears and throat (nothing else) and 2 minutes LECTURING ME about how fever in kids isn't a bad thing. ... it's how their body mounts a response to fight infection. ... blahhh blahh blahhh.. She basically chastised me for bringing him, implying that I freaked out over nothing. Friday, he continues to spike fevers despite Tylenol and Motrin. We take him to our regular pediatrician and she does a 10 minute POINT OF CARE test to diagnose him with the FLU! And the real pediatrician started him on Tamiflu that day. The nurses were great, but don't waste your time OR money on Cook Urgent Care in Hurst .... at least if the "Dr" is a Hispanic lady in her late 30's whose name started with an M. There are good Drs and bad Drs, good cops and bad cops, good schools and bad schools, etc.... avoid this Dr. read more

Not knowing I was in the medical profession, the pediatrician on duty rushed into our room and treated me as though I was crazy for bringing my child in. He barely looked at her and basically said that he was going to give her a script but that he didn't think anything was wrong. Bedside manner means nothing to these folks. The dr. wrote an Rx for a drug that was the wrong type of drug and had I not known better would have made her considerably more ill. First of all, parents need to understand that not every sickness needs an antibiotic medication to get better. If you have a virus, you're body does a great job of getting better on its own. Lots of water, rest and some type of pain or fever medication, you'll be back to your self in no time. So if you go to this place and think that they have to give you something to make you better, this isn't the place for you. This place is outstanding! Every staff member from the Paramedic at the door doing triage, to the receptionist, the customer service and friendliness to my child is 5 stars! They are very efficient and quick to get us in and out. There may be a line for urgent care, or ER so you may have to wait till those in front of you are seen. If you truly have an emergency situation they will move you to the front of the line. My daughter once broke her collar bone and she was rushed in. This last time with a sore throat, we waiting our turn and they gave her a mask. The doctors are really friendly and engaged with my daughter and ask great questions and make sure the parents understand what will happen next. This is a horrible place to take your kid. All they care about is getting your money. The nurses are decent, but slow. The wait room is horrible, they flip out trying to get your id and insurance card. once your copay is made, expect to wait forever, even when beds are empty. If you have any billing problems. For the the Hospital part, The care was great! But for the Recovery unit, they were mean to me because I cannot see my little brother after he got surgery, when I was 12 1/2, The Nurse kicked me out of the room and I got upset with her, because 13 and older only!!!
