I'm not gonna kid you but I did do a little research on this place before my trip and is one of the reasons I am traveling on 701 north. Most sources I gathered from other YELP! reviews. And you really have to read between the lines on some reviews, I did not let them change my mind. I need to stop here. As I arrived and located the place, it was a little tricky to park but not bad. Entered the place and it looked just like the photos online. I stepped to counter and waited behind two others and not long after I placed my order. Just a regular burger cheese w/LT and a order of fries. Now it didn't take long and my order was ready. Don't get me wrong, this place is so busy there is constantly burgers cooking on the grill. And these burgers weren't sitting around either. As soon as as it was done it was gone, as fast as they were making them they were gone. Walked over to a table with my food and drink and sat and unwrapped one of the most beautiful burgers I ever had. No complaints, bun held up thru the juiciness. LT was fresh and crisp. And the fries were just as good even though I'm not crinkle-cut type. These were crispy and soft on the inside. Hope to back this way again. Once again I found another great spot off the beaten path. What does the barber say? Who's next! Peace.

Seating outside and inside. There's also a few arcade games for kids or adults to play as you wait for your order. It's got the feel of a diner on the beach. There was only 2 employees who I believe were also the owners. Great service and hospitality. This place is unassuming, You don't expect the food to taste as great as it does. All the food is cooked fresh. You can taste the quality of the food that is used. The food is served in dog bowls. It's gimmicky, so some people might be turned off or find it unsanitary. They line the bowls with wax paper and I would think have not been eaten out of by dogs. I can't believe I actually had to say it, but after reading some of the reviews I think it was necessary. The food was fantastic. We got the garlic parmesan wings to start. The sauce was flavorful and the wings were drowned in it. Not as much meat as I would like on the wing, but still delicious. I dipped my fries in the leftover sauce. It added to the great taste of the fries which are hand cut and seasoned nicely. I got the double cheeseburger. I added jalapeños, spicy mustard, ketchup, and mayo from the free condiment list. If you have never tried it like this, I highly suggest it. It may sound like too much on the burger, but you will not be disappointed. The burger was fresh and cook exactly how I asked. Just the right amount of condiments and jalapeños were on the burger. I will definitely be returning to try one of the hotdogs they have on the menu. Great experience and looking forward to coming back.

I saw something about a hamburger, it was lunch time and I decided to take the detour into town and see if I can get something to go. Suddenly, I was in downtown Elizabethtown, and it was quite charming. A lot of times I go through the small North Carolina towns that used to thrive at one time but are now pretty much shut down and deserted. It was not the case with Elizabethtown. I saw coffee shops and boutiques and clothing stores and of course, Melvin's. When I first walked in, I got nervous because there was a long line and I was not in the mood to be waiting a long time to get a hamburger unless it's for White Castles. But let me tell you something, Melvin's got it worked out to a science. One person takes your order. One person makes your hamburger. One person puts the hamburger in the bag and the other person takes your money. I was in and out of there in less than 2 minutes. It cracked me up. The menu is quite limited. You can have a hamburger or a cheeseburger or a hot dog and that's it. You can't even get fries. You can get a bag of chips which is what I did and some random cookie for a dollar. I enjoyed getting in the car and having my lunch for the ride back home. The hamburger was good and so was the pric... less than five bucks. I got it all the way with coleslaw and ketchup and mustard. and chili Melvin's has been around forever, and it was clear that the locals love it. The line was long and the place was pretty full. People are in and out of there in a few minutes. So anyway, if you're on your way to the beach and on 87, grab a burger at Melvin's and keep the tradition going at Melvin's.

Stopped in here on our way through town as we headed north to NC…read more It's a popular place at lunch, with what was obviously nothing but locals. As we were not, we definitely got a few strange looks, which I definitely expected. There's maybe 10 spots to park along the side and they've got maybe 10 tables inside in which to sit. Pretty limited menu of burgers, dogs, and frozen crinkle cut fries from the heat lamp. Overall, I'd rate the cheeseburgers and hot dogs we had as completely forgettable and below average. Definitely not worth what they're charging ($3.95 for a cheeseburger, add like 70 cents for lettuce and tomato). Hate to say it, but you can get a better burger that's less greasy from Hardee's. Worse than that is the fact that their hot dogs are cooked in oil...it's the weirdest thing ever and something I've never seen. Unfortunately, that simply made the dog the greasiest I've ever had. Not a fan. Check out the pics I posted for their menu and prices. Note that they do not do free refills on fountain sodas despite what they're charging. Their system of ordering and filling each order is literally about as inefficient as you can possibly find, which did nothing but make each customer's wait that much longer. This place is likely an institutional treasure to locals but to city folks like us that are used to modern efficiency, it was like watching paint dry and getting teeth pulled. Uggh. Top it off with service staff that was glum and displaying the omnipresent "I hate my life" attitude, and my wife and I both said to one another right away, no way we'd go back. The locals probably don't want us stopping in anyway...damn city folk that we are. I'm wondering how in the world this place is still in business? As you'd expect, no free wifi here.
