Authentic greasy good ole American Diner. The go to items are the Whataburger and the Battered French Fries. When you enter the gravel parking lot and see the run down looking building, don't be fooled. Inisde hides good people and great food that satifies the soul. Come in with an open mind and embrace the greasy smells that will make you salivate. Solid establishment for a real non-commercialized burger and fries. CASH ONLY

I cant believe only 10 people reviewed this diner. Actually drive in too. We were blown away by the friendly people here. We saw this on yelp and went out of the way for this dive. The parking lot was riddled with pot holes and inside was kinda old. I think it all added to the nostalgia. As said before the meat is hand made, French fries hand cut, Cole slaw home made. The burger topped some of the best I've ever tasted. Everything was awesome. You just dont see these places just anywhere. I'd go back in a second. Trouble is we are from out if town. Thanks to these wonderful people at this diner.

I was in the area on business and stopped here because "it's a local tradition"; I expected to enjoy the experience more than I enjoyed the food. Well, I was definitely mistaken! I was a little confused when I first drove up. Since the parking lot is basically just a large dirt/gravel lot and others were parked all over the place, I wasn't sure where to park. I chose a space close to the building so I was out of the traffic flow. Before I could even turn off my car, someone was standing beside me waiting to take my order. I told him it was my first time and asked if there was seating inside (I didn't want to take my order with me and definitely didn't want to eat in my car). He said sure and went back inside. Once inside, the waitress came over and asked if I was ready to order. Clearly, they are all accustomed to regulars coming here and not having to look at the menu!! She went ahead and took my beverage order (sweet tea, of course) and I studied the menu. Since I was here for a burger, I asked the waitress the difference between the various burgers on the menu. My understanding was basically the size, so I ordered the hamburger steak burger (I really love hamburger!). I asked whether I should get a small or large fry: she suggested small because of the size of the hamburger steak burger. My fries arrived shortly before my burger. From other pictures on here, I knew to expect a batter/coating. However, I could never have imagined how awesome they are in person. I explained it to friends this way: if you've ever had onion rings, you know that sometimes there's so much batter that you barely know there's an onion in there. Other times, you barely notice the batter, so you get the sweetness of the onion but the slight crunch from the crispy batter. Well, that's the way these fries are. Not only at the fries here hand-cut on-site, but most places have to really cook the fries to get them crispy. With the light batter on these, the batter provides the crunch without drying out the potato on the inside. So you get a fleshy potato with a slight crunch on the outside. As you can tell, I became an immediate fan!! Then my burger arrived. I ordered it with mustard, chili, and slaw. When I first picked it up, I had to quickly put it back down...almost burned my finger because it was so hot (and the paper pouch it was in doesn't provide protection against the heat). When I bit into it, I started to smile. It had a nice char on the outside that was slightly crispy while still being moist on the inside. The chili was very lightly seasoned, while the slaw was nice and crispy. I went to work the next day and complained to one of the locals that she never suggested this place before then. I would without a doubt go back if I'm in the area again...if nothing else, I want more of those fries!!

Stopped in on our way home from the beach. We always try to hit a local joint, and this one did not disappoint. They do have car side curb service, but we opted to go inside. I had the cheeseburger (which was hand pattied) with chili & slaw. Yum! He got the cheese whataburger which was a larger version with let/Tom/onion also hand pattied. But the fries were the most interesting. They are hand cut and very lightly breaded. Cooked just right! I also tried the old fashioned Cherry Mtn Dew like you got at the drugstore fountain counter. It was sooo good! Will def stop in again, but would probably try the curb service next time!

Its okay. Not the best. Could use more flavor in the hamburger meat and more toppings because they are kinda skimpy but its okay

Great place! Loved our cheeseburger and chicken sandwich. Eat-in, take-out, or stay in your car and eat off a tray.

I checked Yelp to…read moresee what was coming up in the area, and Arnold's popped up, so we decided to give it a try. When we pulled into the parking lot, it was packed, which we took as a good sign. Inside, the restaurant was very busy. The hostess seated us and mentioned they were offering a pizza bar for lunch that day. She took our drink order and then came back to take our food order. My wife ordered the steak and cheese with curly fries, and I had the cowboy burger with onion rings. My wife said the steak and cheese was good, though the curly fries lacked seasoning. My burger was a little different than expected -- it comes on grilled Texas toast -- but it was still good, just a bit heavy on the bread. The onion rings, however, were very good. We asked our waitress about the pizza, and she explained that there used to be a pizza place across the street that was always busy. The owner of Arnold's also owned that pizza place, and after it closed and became a gas station, they decided to bring the pizza to Arnold's. She said they just started serving pizza a few weeks ago and have been very busy since adding it. One odd thing worth mentioning was the restroom. It was freezing cold, almost uncomfortable, and when you go to wash your hands there's a sign warning about extremely hot water, but no hot water came out at all. My wife said the women's restroom was the same way. On our way out, we walked past the pizza bar. The pizza looked excellent -- very thin crust, just the way we like it -- and they also had spaghetti available. When we're back in the area again, we'll definitely stop in to try the pizza.

They have a large parking lot with numbered spots, so you don't forget where you parked. The decor is casual and unassuming. It is a large place, though. It can seat 220 guests and has both booths and tables. I dined here for brunch, but you order from the all-day menu. I read to go early to avoid a wait. Service was friendly, but the goal seemed to be to turn the tables quickly, so many customers left with to-go boxes. Well, I was on the road, so I couldn't go, so they had to wait for me to finish. I ordered the flounder with a baked potato, and it came with hush puppies. The food was really good, and I would have ordered dessert too, but I wasn't asked or even finished with my meal when the bill was dropped off. I liked my food, and the prices were reasonable. I don't like feeling rushed, though and like to enjoy my meal. Payment is taken at the front register. I paid cash because I wasn't sure whether they took credit cards, since that register was closed. By the time I got through the line and got change for the tip, people were already seated at my table. So I had to find my waitress to leave my tip. I might return again when it is less busy.

My family & I travel through here just to get to Hilton Head Island, SC from VA. I like that it's a nice family friendly diner open late and good for traveling through to your next destination... But here's what we had and whether or not you'll like it. Grilled salmon... decent, not super memorable. The flavor was fine and it was cooked well. The hush puppies weren't my fave - they're the kind that look like scraps rather than golf balls. The deviled crab is interesting. I want fond of the flavor or texture - it's closer to deviled crab fritter than anything. The garden salad is mostly iceberg, but it did the trick to get some greens in me for the travels ahead. The fried dishes seem to be the specialty, so I'd recommend a fried platter if you're interested in something quick & tasty.
