    Twist tie on burger

Oof. My boyfriend bit into his burger from a cookout tray and there was a twist tie IN his burger

I've never had a bad experience with this Cookout until tonight. I found a black chip of something in my burger. There was also a hair that definitely was NOT mine on the top of my shake lid. I was super excited to eat but now I'm just grossed out.

My family and I visit Sylva about twice a year and our literal very first stop and last stop before driving back to Florida is this Cook Out. The food is priced appropriately (also could be called cheap). Everything on the menu is delicious! I have always found the facility to be well maintained and inviting. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. They seem to enjoy their jobs which makes for a more pleasant experience. I recommend this place to anybody wanting some good food or someone wanting a Real Burger that tastes like it was made out back on a real grill.

We were able to sit at the creek, which was just lovely and relaxing. Our server arrived quickly, brought ice cold drinks just as quickly and was fantastic throughout our visit. Everything we ordered was delicious (tacos, burger, fries, collards). We don't live in Sylva but pass through regularly. We will absolutely be back soon!

First, let's address the only downside: my burger was slightly overcooked. The server was very kind and attentive, but by the time she came back around to check on us, it felt a little late to send it back. I decided to remove the meat and enjoy the rest of the burger -- and surprisingly, it was still very good. My only hope for next time is that everything comes out cooked exactly as intended. Now for the positives -- because there are plenty. The wait time was excellent. We didn't have to wait for a table, and the food came out in a timely manner. That level of efficiency definitely adds to the overall experience. This restaurant is clearly operating at a high level. The location is great, the atmosphere is welcoming, and everything feels well-managed. You can tell there's pride behind what they're doing. We ordered The Goat Burger with Crispy Buttered Taters and started with the Fried Deviled Eggs. The fried deviled eggs were a standout. They had a salty base with a slight kick of heat, and the pickled onions brought in a sweet, tangy balance that elevated the dish. The salty-sweet combination worked beautifully together. A strong appetizer choice. As for The Goat Burger -- aside from being slightly overcooked -- the flavor was impressive. The patty was well seasoned, and the fried goat cheese paired with bacon created a rich, savory profile that complemented the crispy buttered taters perfectly. Everything worked cohesively on the plate. Even after removing the meat, the toppings and structure still delivered strong flavor. The food was absolutely worth the money. I left feeling full and satisfied without feeling overly heavy, which is always a plus. This is a place I will go back to again and again. I would confidently recommend it to others -- great location, good food, good people, and solid service. They also offer wine and beer for those who want to enjoy a drink with their meal. Overall, a very strong experience. I'm looking forward to coming back -- and next time, I'm hoping everything comes out cooked perfectly.

When we first walked in, the first thing I noticed was that it wasn't very crowded. Sometimes that can be a red flag--but in this case, it turned out to be a hidden advantage. The food came out fast, fresh, and piping hot. From the first bite, I knew we were in for something special. The atmosphere has more of an old-school, no-frills vibe. It's not flashy or over-the-top, which actually made the experience better. I walked in with neutral expectations--not expecting anything extraordinary, but not expecting anything bad either. What I got completely exceeded that middle-ground mindset. Their menu offers a wide variety of options, but I went with something classic and comforting: a Philly cheesesteak (no mushrooms), upgraded with Cheese Whiz, along with sweet chili chicken wings and a side of onion rings. Let's start with the wings. The sweet chili sauce was perfectly balanced--just the right touch of heat paired with a subtle sweetness. Even fully sauced, the wings maintained their crispiness, which is not easy to do. If I had to critique anything, I'd say the blue cheese could be upgraded--but that's a minor note in what was otherwise a near-perfect execution. The Philly cheesesteak was equally impressive. The bread was soft yet sturdy, packed generously with meat, cheese, and vegetables from edge to edge. Every bite was balanced and satisfying. The onion rings were exactly how I like them--thin, crispy, well-seasoned, and fried to a perfect golden crunch. Everything from the food to the drinks, the atmosphere, and the customer service was on point. The only thing I passed on was dessert. The cookies didn't look as fresh as I would've liked, so I decided to skip it this time. That said, it didn't take away from an otherwise top-tier experience. Whether you're looking for a dine-in lunch, dinner, takeout, or delivery, South of Philly absolutely delivers. I genuinely don't think this place gets the attention it deserves. It's a hidden gem, and I will definitely be back to explore more of the menu. If the staff has recommendations next time, I'm all in--I'll be there to try them. Highly recommended.

Intrigued, we decided to stop by and give it a try. I'll say this upfront: I wouldn't go to Sonic again for the food. The quality has seriously declined, the portion sizes are underwhelming, and overall, the experience was far from enjoyable. I ordered the Cheesy Bacon Supersonic Combo with tater tots and a large Cherry Lemonade. To Sonic's credit, the drinks remain its strongest point--they've never disappointed me, and this visit was no exception. My Cherry Lemonade was refreshing and flavorful, as expected. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The biggest issue I have with Sonic's food is that most of it desperately needs more seasoning. The flavors are bland and uninspired, leaving little to enjoy. On top of that, if you're going to call a burger the Cheesy Bacon Supersonic, it should live up to the name. This sandwich fell short in every way. The bacon was incredibly thin, barely tasted like bacon, and lacked the crispy, thick-cut quality you'd expect. The cheese was another letdown--the amount was minimal, and their cheese selection felt uninspired and unimpressive. Sonic's food today lacks the flavor, creativity, and quality that once made it special. If you're craving a great burger, look elsewhere. If you want an amazing chili cheese hot dog, you're better off making it at home or finding another spot. Sonic's food has lost the magic it used to have. This particular location was clean on the outside, which was nice, but most Sonic locations I've seen are not well-maintained. Even though there weren't many customers, it took a surprisingly long time to prepare our single meal. Unless I'm stopping by for a drink, I won't be returning to Sonic anytime soon. While the drinks are consistently good, the food is simply not worth the trip. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone--grab a drink if you're thirsty, but find somewhere else for your meal. Here's hoping Sonic can make a full turnaround and reclaim its former glory.

Highlights from my experiences here include: * The girl working the register taking my order stopping me midway through to whine at some supervisor nearby that she wanted a break (he informed her she'd only been there 30 minutes and didn't say anything about her blatantly ignoring a customer). * An employee approaching our table and asking my friend, who had just picked up his food, if he would jump start her friend's car. * Consistent 10-20 minute wait times for food (during dinner though, breakfast has never had this problem for me). * A really mean looking supervisor coming out of the back to screech at the employees in front of everyone about something petty like not closing the napkin box in the stockroom after grabbing some to restock with. Breakfast is never an issue though, the staff working in the mornings really seem to get the job done. Dinner time though....it's just a crap shoot all around.
