Hello! So I have zero experience with realty. Amanda Jackson and Edna Lee both helped me with my first time trying to buy a place, and provided me with the best possible experience I could have had. I ran into many road blocks and the entire time they were there supporting me. Any question I had, they either had an answer or got back to me with in the hour after them finding the answer. If you are a first time buyer or an experienced one, I have faith that both of these amazing realtors would give you the best possible service. We had the worst experience we've ever had with any real estate agent. For example, our agent gave us a confirmation via email that the seller would do something, but when talking to the seller the agent never even spoke to them about the item (i.e. our agent lied to us). Working with Meena and Brian was such a wonderful experience. I had to sell my late mother's home and it was such an overwhelming process and seemed like an impossible task before these two came into the picture. I never thought I'd ever write a review, especially a 5-star one, for a real estate person--I've found most of them to be self-absorbed, "only-interested-in-their-commission" mercenaries. (Think Annette Bening in "American Beauty". But when I came across this review for Meena Chan Lee I was reminded about how incredible she was negotiating "the deal from hell" on the Eichler I bought. Without regurgitating all the bloody details, she pulled off the nearly impossible and at half her commission (she was pulled in after I had been in negotiations directly with the owner's mother, who had passed away). This review is in regard to the Property Management part of the business. This company was recommended to me by a family member who reported good service from them. I had a rental property to list, and Brittany came to meet me and evaluate the property. I mentioned a listing price, but there was no other discussion. The property was assigned to Sandy, who promised to call weekly until rented. The house was eventually rented at my suggested monthly rate. Communication from Sandy was poor, at best. Emails and phone calls were not promptly returned. Worst of all, tenant related issues were simply forwarded to me. I expected a management company to manage, and they simply did not. With regard to keeping the rental rate competitive, Cook Property Management was not my advocate. With so many other property management companies around, I do not recommend this company. read more

"WTF, only one star?!" This may be your cry of disbelief upon first seeing my review of this highly regarded and long-established local favorite, but lemme 'splain. My review is specific to very recent experience with attempts to have these folks assist me with a few of their rental listings. I called on 2 separate rental ads & left detailed messages more than a week ago that I was interested in seeing each of the properties as soon as possible. The only response I received was a message on my voice mail left by someone at Cook (they left only their first name in the message; no last name was given), who simply re-stated the information from one of the ads I'd called about. I called back right away; unfortunately, when calling to Cook, the only options in their automated phone system seem to be either selecting an extension or using their directory to locate your party by last name. Since I had no last name for whoever left me the message, I chose the extension that was listed in one of their ads I was interested in & left another message asking for a return call to let me know how/when I could set up a time to view the property. To date, I have not received a response from either of the two Cook reps for whom I left messages on the ads I was interested in. Maybe they're only interested in providing quality service to buyers/sellers and we renters are just S.O.L.? Seems that way from my experience. read more

We met Lesley de Barrena-Sarobe in person after our second phone conversation. She came over and explained the process to us on selling and buying a new house. Just like Dane H, this review and every one of the 5 stars that I've given to Cook Realty is because of Meena Chan Lee. Let's step back. It's the winter of 2008-09 and with everything falling apart around us, I'm thinking "what a perfect time to be a first time homebuyer!". Thanks to Dane's review, and for lack of any other idea how to do this, I called up Meena and within hours, she had called me back, asked me some basic questions about what I was looking for, and scheduled to meet with me that weekend for a drive around. I can't say enough good things about Meena. She was patient, took me around to all the neighborhoods I wanted to see, put up with me doing my own research and going to houses she knew I wouldn't like for whatever reason. During this whole process, she was also impressively attentive to what I wasn't saying when we were looking at homes, because often, near the end of our planned trips, she would throw one out that she had seen earlier that week that I *might* be interested in. One of these last minute, unplanned houses was ultimately the one I looked at and fell in love with, despite being well over my budget. But, she played the system for me and was able to snag me an outrageous deal on the perfect place in Sacramento in the exact neighborhood I wanted to live in. She also made the whole process as painless and convenient for me as possible - and I have a pretty crazy work schedule so I really appreciated that. I really cannot say enough great things about Meena and how painless the entire home purchase was for me as a first timer. She was both incredibly responsive and proactive (both with me and when working with seller realtors), and patiently walked me through all parts of the process, beginning with the general buying process, navigating through the piles and piles of paperwork, and even talking me through my own indecisiveness at times, explaining everything to me in terms an inexperienced buyer could easily understand / handle. Horrible customer service. Rude, understaffed and mismanaged office staff. They do not see renters as people, only dollar signs. Whoever is the first to put in an application gets the property regardless of how diligently someone has tried to get a showing or ahold of someone over the phone to get more information. I am not willing to invest $60 in an application for a rental I haven't even seen yet. I tried for weeks to see a property that I was told wasn't ready yet and had no applications submitted and when I was finally given a showing was told it already had an application pending. How?! Furthermore, this property is completely outdated in need of repairs and they are renting it as is at the high end of the rental market. read more

This review is for the Property Management section of Cook Realty. If I could give them "no" stars I would! These people are the most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with. I recently submitted an application for a property that stated it was "ready immediately" (completely vacant). They let me know once I dropped off the applications and the $150, that we would hear in 1-4 days. YEAH RIGHT. They basically lead us to believe we had a shot and dragged on the process for a week longer than the originally told us it would take. After they pocketed our money and stated that we didn't get chosen by the "owners". The property was on Craigslist again the following week!! We were perfectly qualified and they just took us for all they could and are on to the next people looking desperately for a house eager to throw money at them. Every time we would call for an update (beyond the 1-4 day application period) we received nothing but attitude and different answers! You'll know by Friday...you'll know by next week. Just complete BS. If I were you I would stay clear OF ALL THINGS HAVING TO DO WITH COOK PROPERTY MANAGEMENT. Take my word for it. Unprofessional, rude, untruthful, SCAMMERS! read more

My apologies for giving one star for your property management services. But there wasn't a "zero" stars option. If you want quality renters, then show properties when people are not working. They made the owner show us a property because they "didn't have time". We replied to an ad on Craigslist for a home. The ad had been on Craigslist for a few weeks. But when you call this company, the only option you have is to leave a message on extention 25. Finally, after four messages, we received a call back. The gentleman that called us acted as though we were bothering him. When we asked to view the property at 5pm the next day, he actually told us that he didn't have time. After being persistent, he called the owners and they agreed to show us the property right away. We spent a couple hours with the owners. They were lovely people who were excited to have us move in. They told us that they didn't know why they weren't getting any showings on their home. They too were quite frustrated with Cook. We attempted again to reach Cook Realty Property Management to submit an application. After a week, they finally called us back only to tell us that we could drop our application and fees through the mail slot in their office. So we did. The very next morning, there was a new ad on Craigslist advertising the property. After 3 days we called back to inquire about our application. Someone actually answered the phone this time. We were told that they had several showings coming up on the property and would let us know if our application was chosen after they've received them all. A week later, after several messages, a girl called us (while eating) to say that the owners chose another applicant. By this time, we had already decided that we would not take this home because we would have to deal with Cook Realty Property Management. Also by this time, we had found another property through a "professional" PM company , applied, and signed a lease. RENTERS BEWARE! read more

She is so rude, I went to their office to pay rent one time and she wouldn't talk to me, but instead talked through another woman two feet away from both her and I. After reading such great reviews I don't know why I have such a terrible one? On Saturday June 4, 2011 I was on Realtor.com and found a home that was listed by Orianna Rodriguez. The home I had been searching for for almost one year. I made a call to the office number. I was in shock when the recording informed me that the business was only opened Monday thru Friday 9am-5pm. What a way to run a business. I then dialed her cell phone. No answer, but I was able to leave a message. After leaving 4 messages, and having my Realtor leave 5 messages and having a second Realtor leave 3 more messages, no response. Needless to say 12 messages later ... the house was sold to someone on Monday and that someone was not me. Thanks for all your help! Cook should change their name to Crook. read more

Thank you to Realtor Doreen Muzzi, I was in the College Green area and I looked at her listing. I did not have my phone on me and she was nice of enough to take the time to look up the directions of my appt. in the area. She also was giving away very tasty Carmel Corn. She gave me a small bag of Carmel Corn. Very impressed she took the time to help me, The home had a nice flow to it, had RV access on both sides with double gates on both sides, something I have not seen much in homes. For the area and the turn key condition of the home seemed like a fair price. read more

Tony Gomez, of Cook Realty, seems to have chosen a worse bid on 3725 E. Pacific than what I offered, evidencing that he wanted to "double dip" because the other buyer was not represented by his or her own agent. When I went to the open house, Tony, quite sexistly, said that I should try to buy the house with my boyfriend, even though he knew literally nothing about me or my finances. I told him not to worry, I was definitely good for the loan. (My loan agent said I could get approved for a loan of $500,000, which was much more than what I planned to offer for the house on Pacific.) I ended up offering $430,000. I found out the house was sold for $424,000. Perhaps there is a reason for this (seller coming down in price during escrow?), but it looks very suspicious, considering that my offer was higher and I had my own agent so Tony could not double dip. This is a frustrating reality in Sacramento, but Tony's case was so egregious that I feel I need to get the word out. read more

A friend and I were trying to start real estate courses. We went the week of Thanksgiving where no one was there, so we figured it was cancelled due to the holiday. We returned the following week only to be shooed out. We entered this back alley gated area where the classroom isn't labeled nor lit by light. We entered the room filled with men. The teacher asked why we came and we stated that we would like to take classes to receive our licenses to sell properties. He said that the actual process of selling houses is very different than what they are doing there. He went on saying that these courses would be much too boring for someone like us due to the countless reading and tests that are needed. He then said we could ask as many questions as we wanted, but he wouldn't be able to help us. I'm a recent college graduate, so when a man basically tells me that I'm too stupid to be there, it is ridiculous. Clearly due to the amount of incompetent men in the room telling us to leave, we left. Humiliating. read more

Helen Tarasco of Cook Realty was the agent for the purchasers of our home which closed 12/29/09. We agreed to professionally clean our carpets before moving. Turns out Helen insisted that her clients request this even though they told her that they were pulling out the carpet immediately. The day after we paid to have them cleaned (needing to rent the house back for another day for the cleaning) the new owners ripped out the carpets. I have written several times to Helen and to her boss at Cook Realty and have not gotten so much as a phone call much less an apology. Totally unprofessional!! read more

My realtor, Meena Chan Lee of Cook Realty on Freeport Blvd, found the house I purchased in October 2008 and I can't say enough good things about her. I had terrible luck finding a house I could afford, even in not-as-desirable areas of the city. I knew I was ready to own a house and I was open to all possibilities. Meena kept her eyes open for me and alerted me to my (as I see it) beautiful little cottage. I stole it from the bank - with her help - and am truly happy and satisfied in all aspects, with my house. I know I got the "deal of the year" because of Meena's expertise. I had soooo many terrible experiences with banks representing the previous properties I was interested in buying but Meena assured me we would come across the house that was meant to be mine - and it happened. I was surprised reading negative reviews about Cook Realty; the writers obviously did NOT have Ms. MEENA CHAN LEE as their realtor! She was great!! I'm not a social media person, but I specifically had to open a Facebook account, so I could post a review on her. My husband and I are newbies to the real estate world, so it was quite intimidating and a bit scary realizing that we were going to soon spend our hard-earned money on the most expensive single purchase ever, a new home! Meena patiently helped us navigate through all the new terms, definitions, taxes, etc. She answered all phone calls and emails promptly; met w/ us on weekends or after regular office hours; and even gave us a housewarming gift after we moved into our new home! Meena really bent over backwards to help us! My elderly Dad also used her services to sell the family duplex rental. She was super patient w/ him and went the extra mile (literally) to even drive him to an office for paper signing! Such customer service is almost unheard of these days! If you are an owner looking for a rental agency, I would stay away from Cook Realty. Emails are not answered for days and you will never receive a return phone call if you request one. You never know who you're speaking with because you usually receive emails from "the desk of ext. 25" - no name - that's it. Rent is due the 1-5 of every month, however money was never deposited into my account until at least the 21st of the month. They do not follow their own contracts and the vendors they use for repairs are iffy. I twice received notice that repairs greater than $200 had been made without my prior approval because they were considered an emergency related to the tenants safety - one of which was a toilet that continued to run. The tenant could have simply turned off the toilet and used the OTHER TOILET in the house until a repairman could attend to the one in disrepair. But instead I paid premium for an emergency visit. I used Cook for one year and it was one year too long. I hope this post saves any owner the continual distress I experienced with Cook Realty. read more
