I tried CookUnity almost two years ago and couldn't be happier with how they have grown. The portions are generous and filling yet healthy at a great price point. My favorite new additions are the extra side dishes, soups, and desserts. I have not taken advantage of the new subscription plan or lunch service, but find myself ordering two meals at once to have a convenient meal the following day. Making the packaging both microwave and oven safe is genius. The ONLY gripe I have had with the service is the delivery on some nights. I usually pick the earliest time slot so I am not let down when it is late. Since the food is always on point I will not nock off a star for that. I read a lot of negative reviews on Yelp about specifically how horrible their customer service and policies are but thought I'd to give it a try to support local chefs: big mistake! After just one order with this company, I am canceling my subscription. CookUnity is in the business of providing a service , not cooking meals. The service they are providing that we are paying for is delivery and that's what this review will focus on, not the meals. The chefs are great and I would recommend ordering directly from these chefs and their restaurants to support them directly if you so feel inclined! I am canceling my membership after one order because I emailed the company on January 1st asking them to skip the following week delivery as I'd be out of town, actually out of the country and they refused, quoting their own company policy that the cutoff time to cancel an order is 3-4 days before delivery. Mind you this is for an order with a delivery date of January 6th and I contacted them on Jan1st. My cutoff time was supposed to be January 2nd, but they said because of the holidays they moved my cutoff time to December 30th because they did not work on the 31st and Jan1st. Now how da heck am I supposed to know this? So on week 1 of my subscription I am expected to know that the company randomly changes their cutoff time to days before its due , oh and btw they send you a million of emails about random things , but you are supposed to sift through the emails to find out that somehow your cutoff time was changed to accommodate them but when you need a delivery changed lo and behold, the company can not accommodate that. This is a violation of their own contract that states that you have 3-4 days before your delivery date to cancel, so their business practices are fraudulent since they refused to cancel my request sent on Jan 1st for a Jan 6th delivery. If you are in this situation, please contact your local business protection agency or the FTC and file a formal complaint. Their proposed solution was to deliver the meal at an alternate address, this wouldn't work for me as I'm going to be out of the country and they will still ship this order and let it rot so they can charge me $70. If your company policy is that you are so inflexible that you can not skip an order days before it's meant to be delivered, that you switch up your own policy to suit your needs and accommodate you to the detriment of your own customers, then you should reassess your values and what customer service means. A company will not survive without great customer service and if $70 is the fraudulent cost of that customer service and you choose to pass it on to your customers then you need to reevaluate your values and what you stand for. And even outside of the fraudulent business practices, this means that CookUnity will not skip a delivery for you even if you were on your deathbed, they'd rather send the food to the cemetery and deliver it to your grave so they can collect a few dollars. Are you under a ventilator due to covid? They will deliver your food at the hospital. Brain aneurysm, heart attack? They will still deliver. If you want a company that will still deliver after your death, find you in a coma and still bring your food, deliver to your house after you've been kidnapped, by all means get a subscription at CookUnity! However if you are a normal human being just living life I'd advise you to think about it twice, actually thrice. Life happens, you will have unexpected things/plans and you need a company that is flexible enough and will work with you and will not switch up its rules at the last minute. I would not recommend CookUnity at all for all of these reasons, do not fall for the hype and do not provide your information to their subscription service. Dispute the charges with your credit card company if you have to. It is unfortunate as the chefs in their service are amazing but I will think about supporting them another way by ordering directly through them, and I recommend you do the same. read more

My wife and I are now in our 80's and are not do fond of preparing meals daily.We chose to try CookUnity some time ago and are pleased that we did, We now take 6 meals a week 3 each.Ordering on line is a weekly event for use like being in a fancy restaurant and deciding what to have for evening meal. We have different tastes (one likes very spicy, one likes bland). We can easily follow our own diets and preferences. I appreciate their service pays attention to the environment, Food does to us by a delivery person early on Thursday mornings and they pick up let weeks insulated bag,The dishes are on formed rectangular paper dishes. They are also most responsive to questions or complaints. Because I am on a low sodium diet, I always select based on that, Many times I have passed over dishes I prefer forsomethingo else because although the sodium was low (salad) it came with a cup od dressing whose sodium content I thought might be out of sight! Yesterday I asked and I have now discovered that dressing sodium is included in the tally. Just great service in everything they do, Complaints? Minor-never a problem I could not finish the meal. Panko crusted salmon with lemon butter sauce, parsnip mash and crunchy roasted broccoli: The salmon was still moist and fresh. Instead of pouring the lemon butter sauce before heating, I used the sauce as a dip for the salmon. My husband really liked the parsnip mash. Grilled Marinated Flank Steak with Caramelized Onion and Baked Potato: The steak was really good, cooked perfectly after I heated it in the oven according to the given instructions. I usually don't complain about a company on a social platform but this time I don't want others to fall into the trap of CookUnity. The subscription service of CookUnity is a SCAM. This morning I surprisingly found a package delivered from CookUnity in my porch and it has been there for over two days. So I have to throw them way. I've paused my meals two months ago so do I didn't expect the delivery and I wasn't notified. The customer service wouldn't refund me and I have to dispute the charge with my credit card company. There's no way you can cancel the CookUnity subscription online by yourself. DIRTY TRICK to keep charging you and keep the retention rate. They said they would have a self-service cancellation option soon, but I'm not seeing it happening as I found same complaints about this issue on Yelp and Google Review early this year...and it's November now. It's actually not hard to add a "Cancel My Plan" button or "Skip Indefinitely" option if you meant to do it. read more

I heard about CookUnity through a Gilt City voucher. I placed an order for 4 meals and was delighted when they arrived (within their delivery window). The meals were all delicious and came with side dishes as well as cookies for an after dinner treat :) Since then, I ordered another 4 meal delivery plus, since they started doing lunch, I ordered a lunch meal (same portion size as dinner, but didn't get a cookie). They include cooking and serving instructions with each dish. They have always been within their given delivery windows and have a meal tracker so you know when to expect your doorbell to ring. I am someone who tries to eat healthy and also has a sensitive stomach. Most times, restaurant food cooked with oil will make me sick, so I was insanely pleased that not one dish from CookUnity has upset my stomach. Additionally, they post the allergen/nutrition info online but I am curious to its accuracy given how delicious everything is! Hard to believe. But you can tell the quality of the ingredients they use is very good. I also read on their website that they use butters and oil very sparingly - amazing! Each entree with side ranges from about $12-$16. The portion sizes of both the entrees and side dishes vary, but I have never been hungry after eating my entree. I usually save the sides for a snack :) I have had a few issues here and there where one meal was set incorrectly, but the customer care is friendly, prompt, and corrects the problem. They also have an app, and it seems functionality changes between the website and app (can only order lunch on the website currently, not the app).One suggestion now that they started delivering lunch is I hope they will allow you to store multiple addresses (work, home, etc). All this being sad, I signed up for their new subscription service and received my first delivery. I am so excited to continue using CookUnity as their food is delicious, prices are fair, portions are great, and concept is wonderful. I had used Munchery in the past but was so dissatisfied with their nutritional information I could not justify eating it. I am really enjoying the fresh food and ability to tailor my order and preferences with CookUnity! The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the short expiration dates. So instead of being able to have 12 meals spaced out for the week, I'll have to either freeze some, or order fewer as the expiration dates are all within a maximum of 5 days from date of receipt, with most expiring within 3-4 days. More big meals than I can eat within a few days. So I'm experimenting with freezing some or ordering less. But their customer svc was very nice and responded quickly. So happy we tried Cook Unity - my daughter ran out of dinning dollars at college and we gave the service a try in Miami. She's a picky eater with food allergies and loved the food. No problem delivering to the dorm, and could easily fit 4 meals in her mini fridge. If you're trying the service at college, they'll give you a heads up by text when they're close by. Meals came in a reusable tote with ice pack, and packaging was fine. Nothing leaking. Food is fresh, and from what my daughter said, tastes like a chef made it.
