As I was driving down H Street towards Sac State, I saw Cookie's Drive In on the right. I decided to stop there. I picked a good time as there was no line, but when I finished ordering there was a line. Honest review. It's ok. My fries were a bit overdone and I couldn't detect much salt - which could be a purposeful thing. My burger (deluxe with cheese no pickles) was incorrect. I had no tomato and what seemed like extra pickles. I DESPISE pickles. I was able to take them off, but the missing tomato was notable. Overall, this was ok. It's slightly disappointing since I have literally driven past this location so many times and it usually seems busy. They offer the classic burger in 10 different ways four exotic burgers (ostrich, buffalo, elk, and wild boar), four different kinds of vegetarian burgers, 20 sandwiches (includes pastrami, Philly steak, catfish, salmon) , teriyaki bowls (chicken or beef), shrimp basket, chicken strips, fish n chips, and dessert offerings (frosties, swirlies (aka soft serve), shakes (with malt), freezes, and banana split). I luved the French fries. They reminded me of McDs. Same size. Crisp, golden fried fries. Fried to the perfect fineness. Touch of salt. Mmm. A small size cost $3.80. The baby burger ran about $5. Solid basic burger. It has chopped lettuce and pickles.The taco $3.80. I enjoyed it and hubs did not. The shell is a fried flour tortilla, he thought the shell and meat was too greasy. I disagreed. A top 10 burger place in sac for me tbh. So affordable and good! The fries are perfectly crispy and have great flavor and this was a SMALL loaded up! I love that they are the longer skinny fries too, work great for dipping in a milkshake. The burger was solid, only note was LOTS of mayo, which was fine just prob would add ketchup to counter act next time. I got the mushroom burger and the lil mushrooms were very tasty and complimented the burger nicely. It was cooked well and the cheese was gooey. We were grabbing shakes after we took some youth to visit the Sacramento LDS temple and found this place on Yelp to get some shakes. The boys loved them. We stood at the walk up window for several minutes as employees looked at us, then walked past. We waited for several more minutes and noticed that other customers were being served at another window. So we got in line and waited. We have been going to Cookies for years!! Like over 20 yrs!!! During the summer we go weekly!! Darrell and his dad/mom are friendly and kind every visit. We will all the hamburgers fries milk shakes esp.chocolate and the lime freezes!!! The homemade salads are made with love!! We have moved out of the area but drive there when we are hungary!!! We recommended this drive-through as no.one. When our sons lived w us they started going when they opened. That was over 20 yrs ago and loved the ostrich burgers!!! My husband and I were running errands and after passing Cookie's countless times while living in Sacramento we decided to finally give it a try. We ended up getting the Breakfast Burger, Homemade burger, fries, fried mushrooms, mozzarella sticks and a shake. The burgers were delicious and the fried food was hot and fresh. The fries were cooked just the way we like them, crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside and with a good hit of salt. We definitely over-ordered, but we wanted to try a variety of offerings. I ended up taking half my burger home along with some of the mozzarella sticks and fried mushrooms- The fries and my husband's burger did not last that long. The staff was super friendly and even let us customize a milkshake from one of their slushie flavors (Passionfruit with vanilla- tasty). I am so glad I found this place on yelp, we have driven past this place many times, and not once did I think to stop or even notice that it was a drive in food spot. I love this place! It is a regular stop for my client and me. He used to go there many years ago. We usually get the catfish sandwich. I'm not normally a huge catfish fan, but their sandwich is delicious! A ton of fish, perfectly breaded and not muddy tasting like it sometimes can be. Last time we went, which was two days ago, we got out of our usual bun (see what I did there? ). He got the homemade burger and I got the grilled chicken. He enjoyed the burger and my chicken was perfectly cooked. The best part, we asked for extra hot fries and they made them last - so hot they burnt my mouth!!
