Tried out Its Sushi last Friday and I am left underwhelmed. First off, it's not everyday we get an all you can eat (AYCE) sushi restaurant within the Sacramento area without traveling too far. AYCE sushi can sometimes fall flat on delivery & execution. There were some things we liked, some things we didn't like and things that can be approved. Came as a party of 6 on a Friday at 5:30 pm and seated immediately. One thing I was told was that the timer starts as soon as we sit down. So even though I came early, I still had to wait for the remainder of my party to come since I didn't want the time to start prematurely. Our booth/table was small and cramped. Unsure how a larger party would sit but we were seated with not much room for those that sat on the bench side. It was tight to say the least. We ordered our waters & drinks first then appetizers. We chose course A which was anything in pink font. Didn't know how full we would get from rolls and apps so we went with a safer option. Initially, we had problems with our water. I got 1 soda and everyone else got water. What came out was 1 soda and 4 waters. We reminded our server more than a couple times to bring another cup of water. Each time was met with "Yes I'll bring it out." He left and probably got distracted, came back with nothing and proceeded to ask us what would we like to order for rolls. Again, mentioned a 3rd time the cup of water hasn't come out and we started to order our rolls. But as we started to order the rolls, our server left mid sentence as soon as it was mentioned that the water cup never came. He returned with water and then proceeded to take our orders. I felt that was rude to suddenly leave mid sentence as we were about to order the main rolls. There are just so many rolls to choose from. I don't remember exactly which rolls we ordered but some notable mentions included Ring of Fire, Coco roll, & Jessica Albacore. Really enjoyed the ring of fire roll. Appetizers we ordered were spicy & regular edamame, ultimate bulgogi fries, miso soup, fried rice and scallop roll, shrimp tempura and veggie tempura. I recommend skipping the scallop roll as it was a tofu pocket with a lot of rice and lightly marinated scallop. Lacked a lot of flavor and the ones we've made at home taste better. There was just way too much rice. I'd also recommend on skipping the spicy edamame. It was more salted than spicy. A lot of seasoning without the kick. Speaking of rice, the ratio of rice to sushi filling overall wasn't 1:1. It felt like 2:1. More rice than filling which I get since rice is cheaper overall but can essentially fill you up. Yes, our server did offer us the option of half or full rolls but half wouldn't be beneficial for our party of 6. And yes, there's a charge for leftovers including rice. So only order and eat what you can. I don't recommend ordering appetizers that can essentially fill you up before hand like soup, fried rice to name a few. While I didn't order soup for myself and snacked on a few appetizers, I still gradually became full on sushi itself. Presentation wise, sushi looked really nice and not sloppy. My rolls didn't come apart when picked up. Taste wise felt underwhelming. Not many stood out to me. Dessert was included too but if you're only Course A (pink) you only get to choose from vanilla, red bean and green tea ice cream. I recommend skipping red bean ice cream. It tasted like vanilla ice cream with added red beans. I heard green tea and vanilla flavors were good. Wait time for food was slow. I get it, rolls are made fresh and there's a bit of waiting in between for all to be made. But, appetizers took a long time to come out too. Things to improve upon: food wait times. Appetizers came out slowly and seasoning for the spicy edamame needs work. Unsure how to improve sushi wait times. I think the long wait times is unavoidable since all rolls are made to order and fresh. Plus if you order a lot of rolls at once, the wait times can be a little longer. Service needs to be better. In the beginning, it was very hard to flag down our server. When we needed him, he was nowhere to be found. Towards the end when we declined the 3rd and 4th round because we were getting full, he was highly attentive and kept coming back to check on us. In concept, good place to try out. It's different than other sushi AYCE places I've tried. Did it deserve that hype on social media? That remains to be seen. I review based on my experience only.

Jalapeno bomb, salmon skin handroll, and a roll

This spot is located right next to the movie theater. It's pretty cool inside - It is a bit dark, but they have neon lights. It's definitely going for that cool club vibe because they have the electronic music going too. It was my first time in and I came on my birthday. Definitely getting the all you can eat was a better deal than doing a la carte. We went with the course B because I wanted to get nigiri. I would say none of the rolls were impressive to me, but I did enjoy the preperation of the nigiri. Service was decent, depending on who was dropping off your order, you would get a lowdown on the which item was which. There were a few times we had to guess what it was we ordered. We had a couple of cooked things and those were just ok. Standouts were the smoked salmon, garlic salmon and tuna, salmon skin handroll, and the poke nachoes. I also really enjoyed all 3 of the dessrts we got, one was the lychee sherbet and the ube taiyaki. I liked the birthday dessert they gave us too. We also got the yellowtail collar which was really good. Definitely would like to come back to try other things... I feel like the menu was so extensive and we barely scratched the surface.

Super White Tuna Carpaccio & Albacore Carpaccio

We didn't realize it was an all-you-can-eat spot at first, but we went with Course C to sample a little bit of everything. Some items were limited to 1 order per person. Our favorite dishes were definitely the Salmon Carpaccio and Yellowtail Carpaccio.. both were fresh, flavorful, and easily the highlights of the meal. The rolls and side orders were good as well, with plenty of variety to choose from. Service was friendly and attentive, and the food came out at a reasonable pace. Overall, I'd give it about a 7/10 for taste, quality, and service. Can get very busy too! The restaurant was nice, clean and spacious. Not overly crowded. Not a bad experience, and worth trying if you're looking for AYCE sushi in Elk Grove.

Deep fried oysters

This is my 2nd visit here. Went with 2nd tier menu that includes nigiri. We tried tuna, salmon, yellowtail, surf clam, spicy octopus, mayo scallop all so good. Very small ball of rice which is good. 2nd Tier Never had soft shell crab, had to look that up, deep fried blue crabs u eat the whole thing shell and all amazing. I was apprehensive at first. Expanded my palate with this one. Shrimp lollipops very good, kaki fry aka deep fried oysters ok. The teriyaki chicken wow. Fried rice sad. Everything was going well except for the rolls. The Bad Rolls Henry. X- Girlfriend. They came with COLD shrimp tempura. Apparently chefs prepped too much shrimp. Informed Marky our waitress and she said cooks make alot of shrimp, then they warm them up before they put in rolls. This was not happening she said she would inform kitchen. I should have asked for manager as the rolls where not very appetizing. Sometimes our waitress was missing in action. Water not filled, we wanted to order more she was cleaning tables. COLD SHRIMP TEMPURA DOES BELONG IN SUSHI ROLLS. LOSE 2 STARS.

Fish to rice ratio!!!

Wait time: the host said it would be 45 mins but we ended up receiving our text saying our table was ready within 20 mins! The hosts were attentive and greeted us! Our server was great! We did Option B and honestly it was worth it for their nigiri. The fish to rice ratio is quite impressive & I've never been to any other AYCE sushi spot that gives you this much fish! We tried 2 rolls and we were able to get them in half orders. We tried the red dragon and kiss of fire. We thought the rolls were just ok. Nothing too great so we decided to go back to just doing their nigiri. Appetizers: Stuffed jalapeno & stuffed shrimp were crispy and still warm when they came out. So tasty!! 10/10 Poke nachos 8/10. Not too much fish, a lot of cucumber and seaweed salad and the wonton chips that came with it were super crispy and good. Poke salad (tuna & salmon) were decent! 8/10 Salmon truffle tartare was good. Lots of rice and couldn't really taste the truffle 8/10 Spicy garlic edamame 10/10!! Soft shell crab 7/10. Yellowtail collar was good too! 7/10. Nigiri: all of their nigiri was Amazing!!! All the salmon choices were great. Our faves were the shiro salmon, xxx salmon, white tuna! 10/10!! Their dessert menu was great too we loved the mochi and the lychee sherbet! Must try! Overall, the restaurant was a nice ayce spot! Not too fancy but still on the nicer end for a cute date night or dining out with family/friends. Service was good for a restaurant that is quite new. I'm sure they'll get better as time goes by!! Can't wait to come back and this is definitely my new go to ayce sushi spot. :)

Top to bottom: unagi, we think salmon belly, tuna, scallops mayo

Came here for mothers day. Our server was Aaron who was great! Super attentive and explained everything that we needed to know. Were waited in line rough 30 minutes prior to the resturant early and were probably like the 5th table that was seated. At first the service of the food was very slow. I didn't time it exactly but I think it took like 25-30 minutes for our first order of Nigiri to come out! We were able to get appetizers quicker but it was a minute to get what we were mainly therefore. But after a hour of the restaurant being open it felt like the service was speeding up. That being said everything tasted great and fresh! My surprisingly new favorite was the shrimp lollipops! It seems like a new menu item at this location. My favorite nigiri cut was the sake (salmon) and probably unagi.

This place is still pretty new, but it's already our favorite AYCE sushi spot. Plenty of parking by the cinemas. Busy nights usually have a wait, but they text you when your table's ready, so no need to stand around. We were quoted an hour and only waited 30 minutes. The vibe is modern with low lighting, though it does get packed. Our server, CC, was amazing. She was super fun, informative, and enthusiastic. We did the green tier AYCE and loved everything. Highly recommend the yellowtail collar, unagi nigiri, soft shell crab, bulgogi fries, lychee sherbet (had small bits), and Uber tayaki. All the nigiri overall did not disappoint. Also loved that there are sinks outside the individual unisex restrooms, making it easy to wash up without waiting for a bathroom. This was our first time here and definitely will not be our last.

There's 3 Courses you can get. We chose Course B ($41.95 per person). This place is the best AYCE in the Sac area right now. Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 - Plenty of seating and decent sized tables Food 5/5! Some notable dishes were the bulgogi fries, soft shell crab, yellowtail collar, takoyaki, crispy shrimp lollipop, salmon nigiri, salmon belly. Amazing food with good value. I'm coming here again for my birthday next!

I was excited that It's Sushi opened a location closer to Elk Grove, so we decided to visit on Mother's Day. We arrived around 12:15 p.m. but weren't seated until nearly 2:00 p.m. I expected a longer wait because of the holiday, but it was confusing to see around 10 empty tables when we arrived and still about the same number while we were waiting to be seated. The restaurant itself is very spacious, comparable in size to Pier 50 in Arden, and the lighting inside is excellent. Our server was decent, though it seemed like he wasn't fully paying attention while taking our order since we received an item we hadn't requested. On the positive side, the food came out fairly quickly, and the quality was consistent with the Roseville location. One downside was the poor cell reception in the area -- offering Wi-Fi would definitely improve the experience. Also, the Fukumi Group has brought back their passport promotion and added three new locations. Guests who collect stamps from all nine participating locations can earn a $150 gift card. They also have a promotion where you receive a $50 bonus gift card when purchasing a $200 gift card. Definitely a great deal!

Went here the other night and This place was so good. The food was amazing and came out really fast which I wasn't expecting since it was pretty busy when we went. What really stood out was the service -- everyone was super friendly and welcoming. We also got seated way faster than I thought we would for how packed it was, so major props to the staff for keeping things moving. If you haven't tried it yet, definitely worth the visit. Will be coming back for sure.

Went on a Thursday evening and it took over 40 minutes for a table. Front desk told us 15 minutes and then proceeded to laugh and say it'll take another 15 minutes about couple times. The food was a hit or miss. I got the yuzu yellowtail and was disappointed, the fish didn't taste fresh. The best few I had was the spicy octopus nigiri and the super white tuna nigiri. The rolls were all basically California rolls with different toppings. All really dry with hella rice. Just stick to the nigiri and the hand rolls. One of us got a fried roll but it was mainly tempura batter and rice with a California roll inside, no sauce. Dessert was disappointing, they took our orders then told us 15 minutes later they ran out of more than half the dessert menu. For the price, the service needs to be faster. They kept taking our order when our previous two orders hadn't even arrived yet. You're better off going to Pier 50 in Arden! SIDE NOTE: the bathroom are gender neutral! All open sinks with 3 bathrooms. It's DISGUSTING! Go run to fire wings or tastea

I'm so excited that we have a great sushi place at Delta Shores now. This potentially can get me in trouble since I live less than 10 minutes away. Located next to the theater and across from Tastea, there's plenty of parking in the surrounding areas. We came on a Friday at 5 PM and had about a 20 minute wait for a table of 3. The restaurant is pretty large, plenty of seating for groups of 4 or less. Not sure if it's great for bigger parties. The place can get pretty loud but despite being super busy, service was consistent during our visit. You can order à la carte to go or dine in. They're known for their AYCE but you can pay à la carte as well. For AYCE, there is a fee if you're unable to finish your food and there's a 90 minute time limit. There's a suggestion to order a little at a time but the only problem when it's busy (and if you order rolls), the orders get pretty backed up. I lost track of how many rolls I ordered since it took a while to get our food. Our waiter suggested we order another round while we waited and I was starving so I made the mistake of over ordering (the rice really fills you up). I am definitely coming back again and making sure I have a better ordering strategy (order all the nigiri first, then rolls and other plates is my recommendation). Pros: staff were friendly and we were able to get service consistently while waiting in between orders. Our waiter was very patient in answering my questions, even when I asked him 3 times to confirm how many rolls I ordered. The rolls are huge so I definitely don't recommend ordering too many rolls at a time if you have a small party. If you really want to get your money's worth, order the soft shell crab or any of the grilled fish Honestly, you get your money's worth ordering the nigiri in my opinion. Fish is fresh and overall, I enjoyed the rolls we ordered. I was way too stuffed because it just was too much rice Cons: since orders took awhile to fill, it's easy to lose track of how much you order.

Love their sister restaurant so we were super excited this one finally opened. We didnt even realize we came on the second day of their grand opening! We came for a slightly later lunch on Saturday and there was no wait for a table. There were a good number of tables but it wasn't packed like we heard dinner was. Service was always super friendly and quick. Our waitress was super sweet! The food came out quickly, no missed items but they were still figuring some things out so we did get a few extras we didnt order but we definitely didnt mind. For their second day of opening things were running pretty well. We got the B Course and liked everything we got! The fish quality was good and the nigiri had a good ratio of fish to rice. All the apps were delicious and the fried stuff was perfectly crispy. We didnt try any rolls as we preferred nigiri, but the ones we saw walking by looked great! Love that we can come here as it's a bit closer so this will definitely become a regular spot!

I chose the chicken teriyaki and mixed tempura for my two choices, and it was accompanied with rice, salad, two pieces of California roll and miso soup. The miso soup was quite bland, with about 3 little cubes of tofu, and tasted watered down because it didn't really have any flavor. The chicken was very good, with teriyaki sauce with the perfect flavor and thickness. The salad was very good too, because of the salad dressing. I couldn't really judge the California roll because it was so thin that it broke apart. I couldn't wait for the tempura, one of my favorites, but the batter was pretty thick and kinda greasy, so it was just okay. I'm glad I finally got to try it, and will be back. We like to sit at the bar if there's just two of us, and will grab a table when we have friends. If you want to make sure you have a table, you can make a reservation ahead of time, but we usually don't need to wait too long. Our favorites are the brussel sprouts, karaage chicken, and their nigiri. We also really enjoy the sukiyaki, it's really flavorful and perfect for cooler or rainy weather. We still need to come by for brunch, but we've heard good things. The team here is always friendly, and we've been in enough that some of them recognize us now.

Not sure if they take reservations, but we arrived around 30 minutes after opening. A short wait for the table to be ready for the big group. Parked at DOCO East and was an easy walk. They don't validate parking though. To share we tried some of their crispy brussels sprouts (mint, cashew, chili caramel) and pickle plate (kimchi, veggies). This visit I got the Mushroom Paitan ramen which had: rich cashew cream, pork belly chashu, half ajitama, shimeji mushrooms, negi onions. The seasoned egg was good, though I wish you got more than just one half of it as default. The broth was rich and the pork was great. The noodles were thin but firm I also tried their Kodaiko Palmer drink (nonalcoholic), which had earl grey and another Japanese tea profile. The other special mocktail was a sparkling/spiced cranberry lemonade. If you're not into pork they have chicken ramens and soupless styles too. If you're not into noodles they also have salads, donburi rice bowls and sandos. It was a bit loud of an environment (music) to hear each other, but then again we were at a long table/large group. Service was wonderful.

*** Vegetarian Review ***…read more Would I come back? Yes, friendly service. They can accommodate their broths for vegetarians. If you can handle it, always ask for a medium spice level. Tips for first-timers: 1) Plenty of free parking 2) They accept reservations The Food: Vegetable Tempura ($18.95, Grade A): I like how they cut the vegetables--not too chunky. There is nothing worse than a chunky carrot that isn't cooked to its core. The tempura batter doesn't pull off when you bite into it, and it isn't oily at all. Yasai Ramen ($17.95, Grade A): Asked for a water broth to make this safe and vegetarian-friendly. You would think it would be tasteless, but it was surprisingly packed with flavor. The medium spice level definitely helped, but even for people sensitive to heat, this would be a tasty dish. It says water-based, but it still has a deep, eye-appealing dark color. The noodles have a great bite. Not overly mushy. And they stay that way for the entire meal. Broccoli, zucchini, bean sprouts, wood ear mushrooms, and cabbage. The cubed tofu is fresh and wasn't spoiled which often happens with tofu in restaurants that a lot of people don't order daily. Jungle Roll ($14.95, Grade A): Avocado and cucumber, topped with a seaweed salad. Most Japanese restaurants fail to understand that vegetarians also want a fun roll! We asked if they could include a vegetable tempura inside the roll so there would be a good textural component, and added a drizzle of teriyaki and spicy mayo. Good news--they were able to do it, though having to check with the sushi bar is always an adventure ($1 extra for each request). Sidenote: Why do all Japanese restaurants need to ask the sushi bar? One-hundred percent of the time, we eagerly have to wait for the sushi court to give a "rolling." (Ruling if that was too vague). The rolls are made fresh and many meat-based rolls include a tempura element rolled inside. I could understand if we're asking to deep fry the roll, but just adding a tempura and a drizzled sauce? Ok, hopping off my soapbox. Bottom Line We've been coming to this place on and off for over ten years. It's been at least 2 years since our last visit, and there are some noticeable changes. Portions are smaller; the ramen bowls used to be the size of a food challenge. The restaurant itself is looking older and not quite as cared for, but the flavors remain excellent and the friendly, attentive service is completely unchanged.

My friend watched the waitress stack the 5 trays and left to process payment. Waitress returned and told them she was missing one payment. The party insisted that they all paid. The manager came to the table and told them they had to pay before they leave. Again, the party insisted they all paid. One of the ladies asked,"Are you saying that we're lying? There's security cameras in this room. Go review the footage and you can see the proof that we all paid and the waitress took the trays." Apparently the security cameras weren't functioning as he wouldn't look at the footage. The manager wanted to charge the missing payment to the person who used a charge card for her payment and the group told him that was not acceptable. The dispute went on for 30 minutes and customers at a near by table kept turning around and looking at us. The manager stepped away again and returned shortly with the missing payment saying that he found it under the cash register! There was no true apology, no effort to compensate the group for the embarrassing behavior and accusations. Clearly it was the waitress' mistake and she didn't apologize to the group. This is unacceptable behavior from the manager. Knowing this happened yesterday, I will no longer dine at Akebono. Very poor customer service.

The whole meal felt pretty expensive-- it's 12 dollars for takoyaki, which feels a bit pricey for what you get.
