Went for lunch today. Had the Sonora Burger with fries to go. Excellent burger. HUGE!! Monster beef Pattie, maybe even a whole pound. Grilled onions and peppers. There was sauce and cheese in there somewhere but it was not overpowering, good thing. The bun was brave and made all the way without breaking up, but it was tired the last couple bites! A messy burger. You'll spend some time afterwards licking your hands clean!! The fries were the battered type. Very well cooked. Still hot and very crispy when I got back to the office with it. Burrito was overall pretty well balanced but was quite oily, which I think made the burrito more on soft side as well. The enchiladas were good! We got it with potato, which was crispy. The food here is fantastic and service is friendly and efficient. There's a small salsa bar where they have yummy chopped roasted Jalapeno that went very well with my Nopalito Omelette. I also got a side of Guac. That was yummy too. My husband had the Huevos Rancheros. They served it differently than other places. There wasn't a tortilla under the eggs. Instead the tortillas came on the side. He actually liked it this way. My son had the breakfast burrito with bacon and cheese. I don't remember what my friend's dish was called. After a 14 hour night shift in the hospital, I weighed my options of either passing out on the couch or stopping somewhere for breakfast. I was pretty hard-set on the first choice until passing through J Street. Something about the 8am serenity and (relatively) pedestrian-friendly environment in East Sac... ah what the hell. A breakfast burrito would suffice. More specifically, Nopalito's chorizo breakfast burrito would suffice. Good protein to carb ratio and even better taste when combined with either of the salsas. A little on the oily side, but not enough to take away from its deliciousness. For a second, I thought about dining in despite being in a sleep-deprived state. Chile Colorado with fried potatoes and two scrambled eggs. I liked the flavor, but there was very little beef on my plate. And only two tablespoons of potatoes. Mostly chile sauce. I loved the two flour tortillas. In my opinion it was overpriced ($17.25) for the food. I won't return because I don't like restaurants that overpriced dishes. Nopalitos is a cute little Mexican joint with delicious food and drinks. It's a great brunch spot, especially worth a try for those visiting from out of town. ((As a newbie to the Sacramento foodie scene, I've been taking my time to try some of the must-visits according to Yelp. Nopalitos seemed to be a popular recommendation, so, naturally...)) You can see why it's so crowded and well-liked here- the reviews are real. Delicious food, drinks, and excellent service. The breakfast burrito was a huge portion, and very tasty at that. The chips and salsa, especially the green salsa, were incredible! I love a good brunch meal on the weekends... we went on a Sunday, and while it was crowded, like I said I do believe it was worth the wait. They have plenty of options, and they are vegetarian and vegan friendly. Basically- The food was great. Service was great too! Altogether a great experience at a cute little restaurant. I docked a star only because the seating arrangements could use some re-organization. I am hyper-vigilant of ADA compliance (to which this business respects it!!) however I do believe the restaurant could be easier to navigate if the seats were rearranged. There was a great balance of eggs in the burrito as well. Sometimes, I feel like places short you on the eggs. If anything, there was maybe too much egg. Right off the bat, shout out to the staff for being so nice and accommodating as I didn't know they have a break and separate lunch menu as my objective was to try some pancakes! I've been here about five different times and have only ever ordered the breakfast burrito. After trying multiple meats, I'd recommend getting the chorizo as the meat and adding cheese. I feel as though the bacon made the burrito a bit too salty, but the chorizo was just perfect Potatoes are not too crispy but it does not affect the flavor profile negatively. You might be able to tell this is more of a burrito review rather than a full restaurant review. If you want a burrito, you have my word that you're going to have a good time. Been coming here for about 10 years. The original owner was so lovely and had such pride in the place and the food, you could feel it. The new owner is just as hospitable, if not more.
