I was in search of a fun and interactive cooking class to plan a date night for my boyfriend and I. Cooking with a Twist popped up on Google and had fantastic reviews. I went on the website and decided to take the Jamaican themed class. It was priced at $180 per couple. The menu for the night was black bean soup, rice and peas, jerk chicken and shrimp, and rum cake. They already had everything prepped for us. The chef told us exactly how to make each dish. Everything we had was bursting with flavor. The class was so much fun! The chef even threw in some cooking education and he made us laugh while doing it. I highly recommend this class to everyone! It's easy for even a novice cook. They even had a little music going on. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the service provided. It was definitely a vibe and a fun date night. Are you kidding me??? How did I not know about this? The experience was absolutely incredible! The cook/instructor (the owner as well) was a good time!!! She was so patient and so kind! I was invited to sign up because this is where my cousin wanted to celebrate her birthday...I'm so happy I was available to come! Although the class was a bit pricey for 2 people, once you are in it, it's absolutely worth it!!! We made crab cakes, cheese grits with several different toppings, cheesecake, shrimp gravy over biscuits AND OH EM GEE!!! It was all so so good!! Keep in mind this is a BYOB as well. My husband and I attended last night's Valentine's Kitchen Romance cooking class. The event was so much fun! The class was filled with couples, champagne, and good food. Our table of 4 (another fun couple our age) made cajun deviled eggs, garlic mashed potatoes, steak with herb butter, spinach stuffed salmon, and bread pudding with Crème Anglaise. The miracle is how the instructors and staff can successfully manage a group of 50 fun, laughing, drinking, and talking clients through the successful completion of a 5-course meal! But they did it! The organization and preparation of ingredients were impressive. We were brought ingredients and given instructions, then when done the used dishes/utensils were promptly cleared away. Our table was a bit ahead so we chatted, enjoyed the festive music and environment & I sipped champagne. So fun. Our entire table fell in love with bread pudding for the first time. Can't wait till they send the recipes, I will be making these again. This was a wonderful Christmas gift from our daughter in New York. We will be back, and ask for this gift again! read more

This was a damn great experience! I really didn't expect this place to be as good as it was. I was taken here for my birthday by my girl. There were a lot of groups there with us and I actually liked the couple that cooked with us. We made some dishes that I likely wouldn't have tried by myself but were delicious. The bourbon pecan cheesecake was a bit sweet but great. I do not eat any nuts but the pecans with the bourbon glaze were really good. We also had a bourbon-glazed chicken breast with Louisiana Mardi Gras pasta that I really enjoyed. The chicken was good enough that I actually wish we had more of it lol. The spinach pecan and strawberry salad was again the pecan surprising me. It was paired with a raspberry vinegrette dressing that I really enjoyed. BUT, the buffalo chicken wraps were my favorite thing we had! They are really something that I want to eventually make myself. I LOVED this experience. I previously attended a work event and decided to return with my family. At the same time, only two of us enjoyed cooking. EVERYONE enjoyed the class. Being able to make your fettuccine noodles was the wow factor to the novice people I brought. Initially, they were skeptical (mainly the guys), but they were sold when it came time to make the pasta! Chef's caesar salad dressing is noteworthy. I am not a caesar dressing fan, but her recipe is a game changer; if ever I eat caesar dressing, it has to be homemade! Took my husband to Cooking With A Twist for his birthday because he loves to cook and let me tell you we had a great time. The food was sooo good and Chef Stanley was amazing. We did the 4 course meal - Buffalo chicken egg rolls, mushroom risotto, pork chops, and strawberry shortcake. Chef Stanley is a great teacher. He taught us new techniques and made the whole thing easy and fun. We loved the couple we sat with...they were super coo and I must say as a team we killed it. Location was easy to find, very clean, and organized. The chef and staff work hard and made the experience amazing. We will definitely come back and we recommend everybody check them out. I am so glad that I decided to take this class. Cooking with a twist was so good. Chef DeeDee made the class easy, fun, and very entertaining. There so much food that we had left offers for the next day. The food was very delicious!!!!! The corn & crab bisque was my favorite dish of the night. My husband's favorite dish was the chocolate bread pudding. Their house punch was great as well. The space was very intimate which made it great for socializing with other couples/groups in the class. This is a great thing to do for date night or even a birthday party. The staff was welcoming and service was quick. They quickly cleared our station of dirty dishes after each dish that was cooked. The food items were all fresh. Not impressed. We did the Valentine event. I won't call it a class. A class is where you learn, this was more like "follow the bouncing ball" or "cooking by numbers". Plus, she gave us attitude for wanting extra containers to take the leftovers home. If there was a limit for take home containers, I would have brought my own. It's a great idea for those who truly wish to experience a cooking class, but this ain't the place for that. I'd highly recommend to look around, there are plenty of other true cooking classes in the Houston area. read more

Well Yelpers you know I'm not a 5 star kinda guy unless I really like something and this my friends was something, and not because I brought my own bottle of Wild Turkey. This cooking class has it all, laughter, delicious food,, dessert and meeting new people. The host/teacher/owner was fantastic. I left out fat full and happy. We went on a couples date night with a group of friends which made the event even more fun. I recommend this place and I'm going again matter of fact I'm inviting all who read this post. I was looking forward to this class as I have heard great things and wanted to support a small and black owned business. While I did not get to attend this class, my interactions with the owner was definitely unpleasant. After speaking with the owner, all I can say is DON'T DO IT, RECONSIDER! I was scheduled to attend the 7pm class on Saturday 2/20. Due to the current situation at hand ( winter storm, power and water outages) I was uncertain this class would be held. Since I had not received any correspondence from the establishment I reached out today to see if this would be the case. I called and left a message the first time. Hours later, I called back and was able to speak with the owner. I asked would the class still be held and she informed me due to the boil water advisory in effect, the class would be postponed for next week. I explained to her, I had members traveling from out of town to attend (8 of the 12 slots were people from my party) and they would be unable to attend. I inquired about a refund and she informed me her policy states there are no refunds, including for inclement weather. I reviewed the refund policy and while this was the case, the policy also stated " In the event of a Cooking With a Twist class cancellation due to low enrollment or other extenuating circumstances, all participants will be notified to arrange for a credit towards another class or given a full refund if applicable". I called back to try to discuss this since they are cancelling the class and this is definitely an extenuating circumstance. Before I could even get these words out of my mouth, she proceeds to tell me that she is frustrated at the fact that I was even asking for a refund under these conditions, and that she is a small business and I should respect her policies. She was very rude, continuously interrupted me every time I spoke, and had the audacity to tell me I was being irate. She expected me to be sympathetic and understanding to her circumstances, all the while I was not receiving this in return. I think she thought I also resided out of town, but I informed her I reside in Houston and have been enduring the same circumstances as she has (no power, unable to go to work, etc.). She told me the members in my party and I was aware of the weather before booking and should have taken this into consideration. I informed her this class was booked weeks in advance (on January 28 and 29 to be exact), there was not any mention of winter weather, especially to this caliber. If this wasn't an extenuating circumstance, I don't know what is. I was simply trying to reach some amicable resolution. At the end of the day she was unapproachable, aggressive, and I have no desire to support this business. If you choose to proceed with booking a class, I HIGHLY recommend that you read all the policies and realize, there is no compromise or understanding on the owner's part. Death would probably be the only circumstance and even then, I doubt there will be any understanding. Book with caution! read more

I really enjoyed learning step by step in the class. We had so much food, everything was delicious and I can't wait to cook it at home. I will be attending more classes to make myself a recipe book of variety of foods. Chef Dee Dee was amazing, very helpful. I was very excited to book classes for my husband, my parents, and myself as Christmas gifts. I was aware of their horrid sounding no cancellation/refund policy, however I could have never foreseen what was going to take place my in personal life. Over the New Years holiday my mother fell and broke BOTH of her legs. She was in the hospital for 2 weeks recovering from surgery. I knew she wasn't going to be able to make it to our scheduled class, so I called Cooking With A Twist to reschedule. She told me to send them an email from the link on their website. I went to do so and tried in FireFox and IE, yet neither browser worked. I planned on calling them back, but this soon took a back burner as couple of days later my grandfather passed. I also must mention that I'm 10 weeks pregnant, so after going to an appointment to check on the baby and do some blood work, I left town to help my father grieve and take care of my mother. On Saturday, Jan. 13 we were able to bring my mother home. As soon as we got her in the house and settled, I received the reminder email for the cooking class. I automatically kicked myself for forgetting to call them back and called them hoping they would show some grace. THEY DID NO SUCH THING. They only offered a 50% CREDIT that is only useable within 30 days (even though I reminded them that my mom can't walk...), because I didn't send them an email 24 hours before the class. They showed absolutely no humanity, couldn't care LESS about what I had been through, were rude, and were only concerned about explaining that they were a business blah blah blah. It wasn't my proudest moment, but I told them to F off and that they can just keep my money, because I have NO interest in learning anything from people who care more about their bottom line than their fellow neighbor who is very obviously going through a tough time. I will never consider doing business with these heartless people EVER. I strongly recommend that you don't do business with these people either or book classes here if you ever have anything come up in life. They do not care about you, they only care about making money. read more

We just had our daughter's 7th birthday today and everyone had a lovely and fun time. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and Chef Dee Dee and assistants were great during the whole process. I highly recommend for any who wants to throw a party for their aspiring young chef. A lot of the parents that stayed during the class were impressed with the process, staff, and how much the kids were engaged. And the kids loved eating their creations! Chef Dee Dee responded to all my emails (and there were plenty from me) quickly. Booking was very easy. I had a few changes in the party and they accommodated all of it. Steak was on the menu, so there were some trials and errors trying to get to the correct temperature. The owner taught the class and she did her best with a staff that was a little off. I explored this gem on yesterday and had THE TIME OF MY LIFE. I'm huge on cooking, it's fun for me and to be introduced to recipes I probably wouldn't explore on my own (the risotto) was nice and appreciated. The chef and staff were excellent! They were engaging and fun. Observant of all prep/cook tables. And did excellent with giving us the step by step instructions. Our food was bomb! Do bomb, I now have a new fave way to make asparagus and I def plan on returning for any occasion. They even host parties for kids to get their cook on. I had a lot of fun and it's always a gem to find these kind of activities in the Houston area. It's great for get togethers, date night, bday parties (or parties for any occasion). They do print and provide you with the recipes for all you are cooking. Tip: bring some extra cash as they have a jar for the people who prep the food for you and who wash the dishes (y'all know that's a job in itself). Let's start off with the ambiance and welcoming hospitality. My boyfriend and I were greeted at the door and given instructions were to chill our beverages and store our belongings. There was music to set the tone the cooking stations were set up. We were a small interim group so our experience was that much more enjoyable. Being this was my boyfriend and I first cooking instructions we were guided with ease. Our meals were so good, easy to make and delicious. Did I mention our meals turned out Delicious! Our Chef Deja was an expert in instructions and entertaining. I am not a great cook! Therefore, this was no easy task so I had though. We made a blacked red snapper with rosemary potatoes and a spinach salad to please any greens lover.. we ended our dinner taste buds with a banana foster... YUMMMY!
