We benefited from her experience and good taste in guiding us through the menu. She ordered a caesar salad with grilled shrimp that looked divine! I love a good tuna melt and she said the Johnson had a good one- plain, but you can add whatever accoutrements you wish. I stuck with the classic and found it simple and satisfying She recommended one of the other salads (the asian salad) to my mom- with grilled chicken breast or shrimp. My mom's first job waitressing job in highschool was at a greek diner and upon discovering the Johnson Diner is greek, she had to try their Mousaka $21 served with a generous portion of greek salad. My mom enjoyed her Mousaka and said it had the perfect amt of cinnamon and spices- she ate the whole plate- she's usually a "take half home" eater- but said she wished she had ordered the salad as it looked fresh and light- and she felt full after the heavier Mousaka Maybe Mousaka for dinner, salads for lunch and brunch!

I like that I don't have to go all the way downtown to get a hot pastrami sandwich from that other spot with all the tourists. This place gives more of an old fashioned diner vibe and the service is really good. They make the best Masa ball soup I ever had and I've had plenty. I say if you haven't been it's definitely worth a visit. Thumbs up and Happy Yelping!

Having eaten Jewish culinary delights all over the country, I still look to New York City as to…read morewhere the bar is set and Liebman's Kosher Deli sets it pretty high! In the Bronx, what was once a bastion of Jewish delicasies, there are few if almost none left. Save for Liebman's, who is still carrying the banner and flying it high for delicious, high quality, old school, Jewish deli food. Katz' on the lower east side may predate this little gem by almost 65 years (Katz' incredibly opened their doors in 1885) but this place more than holds its own and for MY money, has tastier cuts of meat than the latter. The waiter service was quick, friendly and prompt by a few good service industry "old timers" and that lends even more of a nostalgic feel to the joint. The fresh cut fries are amazing and remind me of those thick, potato, French fries you used to be able to get on the Coney Island boardwalk from the random food places OTHER than Nathan's soggy fries. The meat is lean and well seasoned, the pickles are crisp and cold and even the COLE SLAW (which I almost never eat) was AMAZING here. Check them out, you absolutely will keep coming back.

I took it upon myself to go out of my way and review this place because it was the worst dining…read moreexperience that I've had in recent memory. People who eat kosher food have limited options in general -- I realize that. But that doesn't excuse my awful experience with this place. I ate there with my family on a Wednesday night a few months ago. Our food took an hour and 15 minutes to come out, despite the fact that we were one of three tables present. Our appetizers came out after 30 minutes (I think they forgot we ordered appetizers). Somehow, they even brought us the wrong drinks. Another table of people started yelling at the management in Hebrew and got up and left without paying after receiving their food. Awkward. It got even more awkward when our teenage girl waitress started crying after her manager yelled at her in the kitchen area. I felt really bad for her -- like I wanted to whisk her away from this place and take her out for some ice cream or something. Like -- like maybe go see a movie or something, just relax. Tell her that she should just quit, that this place wasn't worth it. The sushi was actually pretty good. The soup? Par for the course. Everything else we ordered was mediocre at best, woefully bad on average. By the time we left, leaving a good tip for our poor waitress despite the overpriced food and inflated bill, I just felt spiteful towards the owners of this place or whoever was to blame for our experience. It pains me to think that this place will still get business just because it is located in a Jewish community that has limited options when ordering food or dining.
