I love where the restaurant is located, it's looks like an old ballroom or something like that. The food is great, it's one of those things that they know how to make good, classic breakfast. The service was ok and the food took a while to come out but I know it was busy so I give them a pass. I would go back if I was looking for a classic breakfast that I know is going to be good.

    Lots of cool decorations

We went on Saturday for brunch it was crowded. They have a seating area outside and parking directly outside the restaurant. On the right side agter entering- there is a coffee shop. On the left is the restaurant. We had to wait for 15 minutes as they were packed. Tip here: you can call to he put on their waiting list. Some other patrons did just that and breezed into the restaurant. We will do that next time. Ambience is very cozy. Lots of coffee related decorations. And feels very homely. Our server was very delightful. She gave us just sufficient time to look at the menu and breezed in with our drinks. We had to wait awhile for our food. But oh my god. It was a great wait. I ordered boozy cold brew with Irish cream. It was delicious. Just great on the coffee and just the right amount of booze. The pork chop specials i ordered was deeeeliiiiiiiicioussssssss!!! The pork chop was succulently juicy and wonderfuly seasoned. The hash crispy as I requested. My eggs over easy was perfectly done. I love this and will be back Pleasant little gem!

Came in for brunch with my wife. Tood about 15 minutes to get a table for 2. Which speaks to the quality if you asked me. (Call ahead) We got seated and ordered drinks and water. I had a screw driver. Our waitress returned to take our order. I had the sweet combo (pancakes, eggs and meat. Subbing out the potatoes for white toast) it was fabulous. Eggs perfect, runny yolk, sausage yummy, and the pancakes and toast couldn't have been better. With the wait worth the stop in

It's a decent spot for a classic breakfast. The complaint that I had is the cheese put in my sandwich was out of place and not that great and I scraped it off. Staff was nice though and it's a cute spot.

Veggie omelette with whole wheat toast, I also had the half order of biscuits and gravy

We had a 20-30 minute wait for Saturday morning. Fast & kind service. The food is what you'd expect, good, nice sized portion. Nothing fancy, but exactly what you wanted. I had a good sized omelette and their half order of biscuits and gravy was huge!!! Cute decor & I'll definitely be back:)

fried steak which was amazing with hash browns and eggs over easy. Tons of gravy and a plate of berry toast which was yum!

Delicious! I love breakfast and brunch so much. My food here did not disappoint! Decided to change it up and got a fried steak which was amazing with hash browns and eggs over easy. Tons of gravy and a plate of berry toast which was fun. So much food but I was famished so I ate every single bite! When we got there they were busy which is always a sign of a good place! Everyone was happy and they had a long slim waiting area which was perfect for casually chatting. Really a beautiful place! Unexpected for a strip mall type building. Service was good despite how busy they were. We loved everything and definitely would come back! :D

Stuffed waffle with peanut butter and bacon.

Went about 9 on a Wednesday morning and they stayed busy the whole we were there. Definitely a popular spot for the locals. Had a very personable waitress who chatted with our new college student about cats. All the food was good. Portion sizes are huge for the cost. The stuffed waffle was phenomenal. We definitely plan to return when back in town.

The food itself was delicious, I ordered biscuits and gravy with a side of hashbrowns. I haven't been able to stop thinking about the salty sausage gravy pairing with the hash browns. The service was also wonderful! We were able to pick our own seating and the food arrived soon after, showing speedy, quality service. I highly recommend this place!

We happened to be in the Lincoln area for an event, and he begged to visit the Hi-Way Diner again to relive those memories he cherishes. It was pretty early in the morning, so a breakfast stop did sound pretty appealing to me. We popped in and the interior is pretty cute, with vintage signs and items scattered throughout. The look of the building is a little worse for wear, I will say, with musty carpets, fluorescent lighting, and a faded smell of a building that has been standing a while (which this has) along with the delicious smells of the food cooking. Ignoring the smells and sights, we stood in line to get a table. It was a Sunday when we were there, so very busy obviously. We were seated at a booth, and perused the menu. Let me tell you right now now, you do NOT come here for health food. It's either very heavy meaty options, or sweet pancakes and waffles. Because of the aforementioned heaviness of the fare, my husband and I decided to split two entrees and share the sides. I chose the South Street Meatloaf, and it tasted just like my mom used to make, with a ketchupy brown sugar glaze. My better half chose the Chicken Fried Chicken, and it was ENORMOUS. For our sides, we had mashed potatoes and corn, and those were pretty standard - nothing to write home about. We packed most of our entrees and sides away to take home, because my husband said we had to try the pancakes too! He got the standard pancakes and doused them in butter and blueberry syrup. Can't go wrong there. I got the Magic Toast and chose the French Toast flavor. It was very well battered and came with some delicious syrup to top it with. Highly recommend trying anything from the Magic Toast menu. Hi-Way Diner is definitely a hole in the wall style eatery, but it's worth a stop in Lincoln if you're looking for a tasty breakfast at a pretty affordable price!

For many years, The Eatery has been a fixture in east-central Lincoln. I'd heard plenty of positive…read morecomments about the restaurant over the years, so I finally decided to stop in for lunch and see what it was all about. Unfortunately, the first impression could use some improvement. Upon entering, guests step into a small lobby with two interior doors--one designated as the entrance and the other as the exit. Once inside, a host greets you, hands you a menu, and escorts you to your table. Along the way, you pass the restaurant's salad bar, which should serve as an inviting showcase of the food offered inside. Instead, the salad bar was the low point of my visit. On the day I was there, it appeared messy and poorly maintained. A salad bar requires constant attention to keep it looking fresh, attractive, and clean, and that simply wasn't the case during my visit. Given its prominent location, it creates an impression that management should work harder to improve. The Eatery's menu, however, is extensive and impressive. There's truly something for everyone. The unlimited salad bar is priced at $14.99, or $7.99 when added to an entrée. Based on what I observed, that seemed a bit steep, so I decided to pass. Instead, I ordered the Smokey Chicken Stacker with fries on the recommendation of my server. It turned out to be an excellent choice. The sandwich was flavorful, the fries were perfectly prepared, and the meal arrived at my table less than ten minutes after ordering--a testament to an efficient kitchen. Overall, I came away believing that The Eatery serves solid food, but the décor, atmosphere, and overall layout feel somewhat dated and uninspiring. The appearance of the salad bar was the biggest negative of the experience for me. Would I return? If I lived or worked in the neighborhood, probably yes. However, since I don't, it's unlikely that I would make a special trip back.
